To be quite honest, as a true capsuleer - as management refers to us, I can see no great advance in being able to depart my pod. My pod is integral with my ship, at least until it gets blown up. When my ship dies, I die. But, thanks to modern technology, I am re-animated complete, whole and perfect. My pod is the safest place in the entire Universe for me. Why I should wish to perambulate around some sordid little human-infested station is quite beyond me. In fact the whole idea fills me with dread. Some random piece of human flotsam could KILL me. (Oooooh! There is good idea there - REAL, permanant death exists on stations!) If you wish to experience this half-life, so be it. So far as I am concerned I am more than willing to stay secure and IMMORTAL in my pod. Thank you very much. |

Walk in Station will be released on December 20th, 2012, followed later by the solar alignment with the center of the milkyway and the end of the world on Dec 21'st. On an unrelated note, Kneel before Zod! |

Making WiS real might be a little harder than most people think. Each station its going to have 1000x more detail that any regular system. Now, how many stations we have in Highsec space? How many servers CCP will need to handle so many stations? Can they handle with systems like jita? 500+ players in the same station?
WiS might be a shot in the foot regarding profit wise.. |

In all seriousness its likely the station interiors will all be the same for each diffrent station model and race. Unless they intend to make station interiors truely epic in size i doubt WIS will be system demanding. As for how many stations are in the game, I really have to believe CCP is smart enough to know how to handle the resources needed for such a thing, either by not giving resources to empty stations or limiting the number of WIS stations per system. Just walking around and basic interaction will not be too demanding. With thousands of stations the development will be demanding on the dev team (unless they use a few hundred generic ones and change only like colors). If we are talking of large group meetings/trading and even fighting it will become another matter...

Face of Mankind is a great game, it's coming back, too.
WiS will be nice, too bad it's not coming in December's expansion.

As we've necroed this up, can I call your attention to:
Quote: The Winter Expansion
We will be reporting on the winter expansion as it draws closer. All I can say, is that it is focused on sovereignty and you will not be able to walk in it. Check on the dev blogs in the weeks and months to come for more updates. Those who are into RSS and those kind of things can also subscribe to our RSS feeds.
Thanks for reading!

It will help for EVE to compete with Star Drek online, and Star Gate Online, for scifi fans, to release WiS... From the programmers side of things, I can see thier issues, they need to release enough to make it worth it for older players, and a draw in for new ones. This is no small task, but still, someone should light a fire under thier collective ....

If it has no actual game need they may as well not bother with it.
EDIT: Also the game UI will have to be substantially changed unless they have a different one for WIS which will be useless. Right click to move, left click to turn...bleh.

They've shown bars and a mini game durring the preview panel at fanfest last year. As for getting bored how many hours have you spent "station spining?" waiting for a corpie to get on, skill to finish, annoying a WT, or for any other reason. Anything you can do during that would have to actually TRY to be more boring.
Also, from what was seen during the aforementioned demo, it has a more FPS/RPG style interface ie. WASD to move and mouse to look around, or move to a particular spot. You can find the video here on YouTube or the third one here. ---- --- --- Devs Sign Here; GMs and ISD welcome to :)

Ambulation should have a much bigger realistic to game for people that want it. Think about this, who the hell is piloting ships? avatars? Ships ships ships shipssss stations planet...but indeed where is people? See people is what make a game more human, more realistic.
Ambulation is not the problem, the problem is how it will be.

QFT
as release date, I think April 2010 maybe, cause we are getting the new Dominion set for winter 2009 and it feels like WIS wont be included in that.

That sounds like an awful lot of theorycrafting and crystalballing. As far as I know, the feature is called Walking in Stations. Now, as to what the expansion it's going to be launched in is going to be called....who knows? ----- Why doesn't anyone ever read the forums before posting? EVE is a game of adaptation and planning. Adapt or die. |

'ello all,
Sometime November/december 2008, i received this rather large colorfull e-mail from CCP, inviting me to join EVE again, after i had been out for some time, telling me that WiS would be added shortly. With that in mind i joined agin, but have since been sadly disapointed only to find sporatic info here in forums, that Wis is still under development. I'd really hope that they [CCP] soon come with some public info about progress and more details, before i send a formal complaint - Seriously
here's why i belive WiS will be the future.
* Extension of just ships, ships and more ships :) * Adding more in-game play. For when you are in game but not having enough time for larger missions or Pvp. * Tie-in to other RL like auktions or trade sales (WTF!). * Platform for city like landscaping. In game drop ship to planets with diff. game play. * Enticing players / ppl from Second life and similar. * Setting the player base to 1 million up from 300 000. * WiS to be WiS 1.0 with extensions to be added later.
As graphics cards and on-board graphics, plus processing speed increases, IMHO WiS can be added w/o severe constraints on the server park and clients. Just a matter of time. If CCP can continue to innovate this is a good step forward i belive.
After WiS, Upgrade/ Patch "Midas" should be followed up quickly, as i see trading as good but in dire need of improvements.
Just my 2 cents.

Edited by: Xilian Yula on 11/09/2009 06:32:51 Yea gief stations with casinos, cafeterias and so on. If stations could be similar to the Citadel in Mass Effect, that'll be so cool, and I think this game will get at least 500M more players if it was added. Yet "they are still working on it", as they've had for years. Tbh I don't expect it to be released ever, but it's CCP's loose. I don't think they'll be able to compete with upcoming sci-fi MMO's coming soon otherwise.
