Security status I think is a little firm in this game, I mean you can't go hide in some station, lay low for a while and be forgotton about as a criminal, like being locked up in jail or something, maybe create some form of prison when a player can have a character locked up for a certain amount of time to improve security status by 'x' amount..
I know capsuleers are meant to be above the law so to speak, but, would make sense to have some sort of mechanic so its easier to restore it, rather than grind ratting or grind missions, Im not however say make it real easy, other wise sec status would be meaningless, say one week would equal perhaps +0.5 increase to negative sec status

Yeah, and also a need to work continuously in order to maintain an excellent reputation - people do tend to forget that even faster.

While I agree that pirating is a hard life, it also shouldn't be so easy to just pop someone and relax for a while. I think lowsec is already dangerous enough, the bad-ness of having low security status should be even bad-ness-er.

I just think your options to increase sec status are rather limited..
You often hear fo criminals going to lay low and stuff, Im not saying that it would turn a negative sec status back to positive, far from it, perhaps once you get so far it stays negative, Im more for those in between, like my main, at -4.4, not alot one can do within high sec to correct it, and low sec would be real hard with pirates about to correct it..
But spending an age shooting other criminals to get it up seems rather lame and should be other options

The problem with your idea is that everything in EVE is meant to have consequences. Insta-sec-gain ideas are not going to be accepted. I don't know how long you have been playing, but some time back CCP increased the sec losses and nerfed sec regains, so as to prevent pirates from being able to recover from a killing spree in less than a day.
As is, you can still go hide out in lowsec or nullsec for a week and easily regain your sec status via ratting - there is no real difference between that and what you are suggesting. ----------------------------------------------
Say "Amarr ships suk, lol." I dare you.

There should be a distinction between forgivable crimes and unforgivable crimes. Unprovoked attacks, destroying ships and flipping cans are all forgivable crimes and you should be able to recover your status losses from that. But podding is murder which is unforgivable so, the status you loose from podding should be unrecoverable until you've been podded yourself. |

it already is... just spend that time killing rats in 0.0...
Protip: For best results rotate around a constellation and kill one big bounty rat per system. The rule is one sec increase per system, per 15 minute period. - In essence, any combat related activity involving damage has been 'speed nerfed' to just take 6 times longer with a predetermined outcome coined balance by CCP. |

Edited by: Kaylan Jahlar on 27/05/2009 18:43:51 That would be too easy. In real life, people who committed 1st degree murder are rarely given a second chance. They are marked for life and usually imprisoned for life if not executed (in countries where death sentence is still in effect).
I don't see why it should be any different in EVE Online. There are enough popups and warnings showing up when you're about to attack someone that you can't say you don't know it will lower your security status. You know that what you're doing is morally wrong (not wrong for the game, piracy is a part of it, just saying morally speaking) is wrong and criminal, so you should assume the consequences should you choose to do it anyway.
There is already a way in the game to redeem yourself, and it's by killing pirate faction ships. If all you had to do to regain a high sec status is "wait it out", the whole concept of being a criminal would go out of the window...

Everyone who has pirated a couple of ships bigger then a cruiser is probably a mass murderer given the size of the crews and the fact not every crew member will escape the the ship blows. A battleship has over a thousand crew (mentioned in one of the stories about a pod pilots ship getting destroyed and the fact they did not even bother notifying the next of kin).
Most governments tend not to let mass murderers go free if they evade the law for sufficient time, the only way they will do it if you provide something of value in the form of a service (killing other pirates NPC or Player) as part of a rehabilitation though works program.
If you cannot do the time (rating to rebuild your sec status) then don't do the crime. Macrointel, the place were the nature order of the universe does not hold sway. Pirates and ore thief's are congratulated by carebears for the actions. |
