Just out of curiosity, since 'every effect in the game is to be replaced in the Apocrypha expansion' as part of the final trinity deployment, I'd like to know where the missile effects are. They are now, and always have been, ass ugly. I know Nozh and RyanD both get their lulz by ****ing off missile users, but really, interfering with the art department? Or maybe the art department just decided not to do it because nobody likes missiles?
Tinfoil hattery aside, why are missiles the only effects that weren't replaced? ____________________ CCP: Catering to the cowards of a cold, harsh universe since November, 2006. |

visible missile launchers would be nice too...
~~~~~ Remember, EVE is a sandbox and other MMOs are rock gardens. Pretty rocks can be collected, but collecting sand is pointless. Instead build a sandcastle and keep it from being knocked down. |
As visible launchers require a rewriting of a good portion of the missile code for flight behavior, new effects for missiles will take a while longer to be implemented. You will get both your wishes then though for the extra wait.
The Drake does have visible missile slots, but missiles never actually fire out of them lol
So does the art department simply not care about missile effects? Or are they still being worked on? Surely there must be some kind of explanation as to why we're still using the old effects. ____________________ CCP: Catering to the cowards of a cold, harsh universe since November, 2006. |
Remember when they said the amount of work it would take to move a turret mount on one model?
Imagine that times the number of launcher bays on each individual ship.
Dunno bout the actual missiles though
Well, you don't need to be moving a missile launcher. Just a visible port on the side of the ship where the missiles are clearly coming from would be nice. As it is, they're sort of just poofing into existence somewhere in the middle.
All they really need to do is modify an exsisting gun turret make it look missily.
Then they can work on - have the missile shoot from the launcher. The code can't be that hard, I mean they do have each gun shot individualized and the lasers shoot all the way from one ship to another.
The gun "bodies" shall we call them, carry all the animation for shooting. The only variable is ammo type to which animation.
Visible launcher slots would not carry the animation, the missiles would (still). You would have to significantly re-write the code so that each launcher bay launches one missile from the correct "Launcher", As it is right now, they are just a simple "Firing" = "Spawn missiles at centre of ship"
They care about as much as they do about engine effects, engine trails, cyno effect, sb effect, warp effect, etc.
I think CCP's new effects policy is heavily influenced by tantrums from people with antique computer hardware. Which probably means we're not gonna see those effects added/revised any time soon. ...
Personally I'd love to see my drake spewing obsene amounts of HAM's from the visible launchers, and actual moving launchers is a nice dream. Just whether or not we get 'em is another thing. --------------------------------------------
I can do without visible launchers. Sure, they'd be nice, but I can appreciate the amount of work involved in adding turret mountings to all the ships that don't have them. Higher priority for me, by FAR, would be an update to the salvo graphics, so that a Drake ripping off seven missiles in a single broadside doesn't just have a heinously bad 'Lol, that makes one really BIG missile, right?' graphic. Separate missiles, tone down the lolglow on the engine flare so they're visible, and have an actual salvo of missiles.
Oh, and explosions in space aren't two-dimensional rings, whatever the Digital Remastering of Star Wars taught you. Enough of that silly, pathetic torpedo explosion graphic. Kinetics, I'm looking RIGHT at you here.
But I like it when there's a dust cloud 200km away and I fire a volley at a ship right next to me and the missiles still manage to disappear behind the dust cloud. That's some high tech ****.
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. |
Nver mind the missile effects we're still waiting for the upgraded planets, the awsome looking ships just highlight how incredibly bad the planets look, you can even see the pixels on some of them. _______________________________________ [a cool picture here] |
On the positive side, what other ordinance has the same explosion graphics that missiles (torps) do?
You can look at a rail gun, a blaster, a pulse laser, a beam laser, heavy art and a AC and tell the difference. So why not missile launchers and torp launchers? This really makes no sense at all. With all other form of weapons you can see the effect of the fire from the end of the barrel. So CCP why dont the launchers have the same cool effects? Tell us something, are they in the works, will they be added with the next expansion, something.
