I think it's time for a fresh game of Mornington Crescent, since my last thread about it is lost in the mists of antiquity.
Map here
For anyone unfamiliar with the game, the objective is to reach Mornington Crescent. The rules can be found in Harold ****inson's "Mornington Crescent Explained". It's not a complete rulebook, but it'll at least explain the common Hamilton rule-set which I'll start off with.
Okay, the wiggins are yellow and the pyramids are in double switchback mode. I play Goodge Street for a standard North Line gambit. ____________________

Ohh, looks like Uxbridge is up for grabs via a Grimsby cross-sprint. I'll take that one. Unlucky, guys.
In case anyone is a bit rusty, a Zone 6-er like this turns the wiggins from yellow to mauve.
MC in 26 moves. ____________________

I'm going to respond with a classic here (as seen in the match between Dalton and Huron 1946). Finchley Road, and as allowed when making a rochester gambit I'm rotating the pyramids 60 degrees.anti-clockwise. ______________________________________________ -My respect can not be won, only lost. Doesn't the 6th edition Hamilton rules specifically say that the 1888 Marquess of Salisbury convention does not apply to games played under Hamilton rules? ______________________________________________ -My respect can not be won, only lost. It's given freely and only grudgingly withdrawn. |

Yes, reverse shunting is always allowed in the Hamilton rule set. I deliberately chose that rule set because of its relative simplicity.

but on second thoughts Lord GrosvenorÆs Original Metropolitan Rules This version was devised during his influential period as Minister of Tourism and the emphasis is very much on scenic routes. National monuments score double, and players must keep to zones 1 and 2 only.

This caused a quick tactical realignment as I was going to play Amos Grove, however, it seems foolish not to take the points on offer and I think we can all agree you canÆt get any more scenic than Stoke Newington.

Right, then, we'll start off with the American ruleset and map. As explained under Hamilton rules, one must treble all transfer costs for Atlantic crossings. Further note that since this is a multiparticipant game, neither standard opening gambit is allowed, again, per Hamilton.
I play Grand Central, New York City, to begin.

I do not believe this is a valid move. Since I used a double triple-back to reach Euston, you cannot north then west to MC. You can only continue further north or to the east. I have no knowledge of a Scottish Finisher being able to overcome a double triple-back.
So the game is still in play. I must, however, consider my next move.

Of course, it's always the final MC move that people hop up and down about. The move is valid because the restrictions placed by your double triple-back became invalid as soon as the pyramids had finished rotating. And as mentioned, the Picard manoeuvre also lifts said restriction, although it is not commonly played. ____________________

My apologies. I seem to have missed that point in my original reading and upon further review concede to your judgment.

I am, however, not conversant with this maneuver in any of the accepted rules updates. Perhaps you could elucidate upon them with a "link".
