hi, im a huge fan of EvE online.. and its mostly what i play on this computer but lately ive been having some serious issues with my video card drivers failing on me.. my nvidia geforce 8800 gts sc went fubar on me.. i was running 2 chars on 2 separate screens doing the mission "shipyard theft" and the game just started going ballistic.. fritzing .. screen went off and came back and i got this "drivers stopped working and recovered".. which has happened to me before.. figured.. small bug... then again.. and again.. and then i saw a blue screen saying dumping physical something and then reboot.. kept happening so i thought.. k new drivrs time ??.. updated them and again.. kept happening and happening and rebooting... till eventually it put me in basic graffics mode.. 640x480.. so.. thought the card finally took its last breath.. got a new 1.. a saphire radeon 3870 hd 512mb gddr4 etc.. etc...and back to eve i went..... sooo happy... wasnt running 2 screens this time cuz in the extended desktop i couldnt move my mouse to the other screen.. as usual.. 2 accounts running.. 1 in very high mode and the other in very sh%T^y mode.. even put it down to 15 bit or lower mode... just so it wont put too much strain on my new card... i should also mention that the reason im runing 2 chars all of a sudden is because i got a new 22" Acer screen.. lcd of course.. so i made it my primary and my old 17" nec lcd my 2ndary.. but today in mordus headhunters.. as i finished the mission.. it just... well it started again.. screen going black.. and then coming back with the msg that the drivers failed and recovered... the way im connected to my video card is 22" acer in the dvi, and 17" nec plugged into a vga to dvi connector into the video card (but currently disabled)...im using windows Vista...my tower is an antec 900 with 5 fans on it.. so i doubt my vid card is overheating.. according to speedfan my internal temp of my tower is about 41C... so.. i dunno what to do anymore.. and im severly suffering from Eve withdrawal..... im giving as much info as possible so if any1 has any idea as to whats happening to me.. please please help me out here...

IIRC it's in the leftmost column of graphics settings towards the bottom. (You have to enable "show advanced settings") That should do it, though I would suggest running both clients on low settings.

i sincerely think this problem is related to my Windows Vista.. because when i tried to run Fallout 3.. i got a blue screen .. physical dump of something.. then it rebooted
im hoping someone else has had his problem and can direct me towards a painless fix

Interval = one = vsync = less frames being drawn.
gotcha, thanks
Just noticed that interval = immediate has a much higher fps rate (double-triple) and yeah that would tend to heat a vid card.

Most likely a hardware issue. (In assumed chance of probability): 1) Overheating. The figures you gave seems very strange already. If your case-temp is 41C (which is quite high depending on room temp) it seems VERY strange that your GPU temperature would be below it. The number of fans mean nothing if you have bad airflow. Don't forget that with two monitors (22''+17'') you are pushing A LOT of pixels. 2) Power supply not powerful enough or not powerful enough on a specific rail 3) RAM issues (run memtest, but somewhat unlikely) _________________________ EveAI.Live - The EVE-Online API/class library for .Net, C# and VB.Net |

Edited by: Xelios on 29/05/2009 09:29:23 First turn off Vista's automatic restart "feature" so you can actually see what the error is. While your computer is booting up spam F8 until you get into the advanced Vista menu, when you're there disable automatic restart on system failure then select Vista to boot it up.
Next time it happens write down the error code and name (should be something like IQR_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (STOP 0x0000008E)) and write down the name of the module that caused it. Post those things here and we'll have a better idea of what's causing the problem.
In general though these types of issues are usually either: a) Power issue (power supply may be dying or the power it's getting from the socket may be spiking or the power supply is too small)
b) Overheating (case temperature isn't important, what counts is the temperature of the GPU, and 40C GPU temperature can't be right)
c) Software conflict (update ALL your drivers, update the BIOS, disable any programs that don't need to be running)
d) Hardware failure (can be hard to pin down, could be memory, the motherboard or the video card (unlikely since you've tried 2))
Download HWMonitor and keep an eye on everything while you're playing. Look for high temperatures or voltages drifting too far off where they should be (for example 10.5V on the 12V line).

There's a few options besides those already mentioned. I had a similar problem on my old GeForce 7900GTX. I couldn't find out what caused it to crash in games all the time. It wasen't heat as it only went as far as 60 degree, which is hardly a problem.
I then got the advice of installing OCCT. This is a program that stress test certain hardware on your computer in order to know how much you can overclock it. The good part is that you can specific what hardware to stress test and in this case you should try testing the RAM on the graphic card, as you rarely bump into any programs able to do this or even checking it. I found my error there and had to replace the card.
When you got your new graphic card, did you uninstall the old drivers from the previous card fully? I'm unsure if these could interfere with each other, but generally it's a bad thing to have 2 types of drivers installed.
As for the part with the drivers popping up and saying they malfunction, then try do a default graphic setting in EVE and set the Interval to 1. I got that kind of warning in Left 4 Dead with my new card and found out it was a certain setting. I know it's a longshot, but it's worth the try.

Edited by: Kel''dar Drax on 29/05/2009 14:26:54 This is a bug...the 'Present Interval' graphics settings have had no effect since the last patch.
CCP take note please, this is why older graphics cards are cooking.
You can test this fact by sitting in station and playing with the interval settings while the fps monitor is active - (ctrl+F). It is a server side fix (I believe?), and as such could be hotfixed at any time?

Why would the framerate control be a server side fix?

I'm confused. Everytime i say that i have interval to default people say "set it to 1, you noob". But when i say that i have it to "1" everybody say "it's useless, set it to default, you noob".

My 9800GT runs at ~55C under max load. Unless you're running an OC'd GTX295 or something then 70+ seems a bit high. Don't worry too much though as the cards are designed to run at pretty high temps.

Actually, it's a GTX295, but it's under fab. specs, I haven't overclocked it yet. But yeah, the temperature holds at 70-80 and doesn't go higher than that.

80C under load is fine. I wouldn't worry unless you're going well over 100C. GPUs can take far higher temps than CPUs can. ____________________

Good question...just what i heard, maybe some communication with the server is required to activate it?..no doubt someone will be able to clarify, (many nerds visit this forum).

Pretty stupid they didn't put a warning on the ingame options about interval immediate.
My videocard is permanantely damaged, but it still works to a tolerable level so It'll still be a while before I buy a replacement.
