Edited by: Eternum Praetorian on 29/05/2009 14:33:04 SO I received word there was a wormhole in a Mission hub. I figure . . . ooo fun times :P Get into my nearest PVP ship and probe it down.
Orbiting around it was an Executioner . . . big mystery it was already camped.
So I figure I pop my head in. On the other side was an interdiction sphere and a Overview full of ships and drones.
. . . I rotated my camera 180 degrees, clicked on the wormhole and exited
Does that tactic ever work? Not the Fail scout part, but the sphere on the WH part. This tactic more often seems way more miss then win? Is there something that I am missing?
The amusing part was about 40 min later their CEO started raging at me in local demanding that I duel him. I gather he was p*****-off that his camp caught not as much as hauler. I told him yea . . .I'd love to duel you and your RR fleet and had a real good laugh about it.

Well, it would catch people already inside warping back to the WH I guess assuming the bubble itself wasn't bugged (I've managed to fly through a bubble and land on top of a wormhole in NPC 0.0 after a spot of ratting).
But no, when you go through a wormhole you end up in jumping distance on the other side so if there's anything there you really don't need to panic.

At one point when you jumped in a WH you ended up far enough that you had to fly back to the WH to jump.
What a fail though, then complain in local.. sad sad |

doesn't work in high and low sec, but bubble both side of the hole and you can bounce the guy back and fourth a couple of times before the wormhole say ("sorry you can't jump because you've done it recently alot"), then the guy is dead.
for those that don't know, there is a mechanic in place to stop an individual from closing a wormhole quickly by jumping through it multiple time in a row. I think it allows... 2 or 3 jumps total in quick succession before putting a timer on you. ------------------------------------------------- Search: Sky Grunthor |

Camping wormholes is fail if one side leads to highsec.
If the far side leads to low/nullsec you can follow them through if they jump back and then they have a secondary coil charge and are stuck for a few minutes. In highsec they just warp away.
Far better to leave a single cloaked covops inside the WH to get warp-ins on targets doing sites. Get more kills that way anyway.

If there's somebody already inside the WH, then a bubble on the exit could work. Keep a bumping ship ready though to knock em away.
For people coming into the WH, though, the bubble won't do much (although I suppose you could use one to keep people out of the WH, if your corp wants to run some sleeper sites).

many times when you go through the wormholes you will end OUTSIDE jump range, so it -can- work, however anyone with a clue fits a mwd anyway... -sig- Support the introduction of Blaze crystals for Amarr!

camping a WH is pretty much a request to fight but not to loose a ship. if they throw up a bubble, they will loose.

What do you mean by this?
Are you saying that if I'm camping the w-space side of a wormhole and use a bubble to stop people escaping into my w-space, I'll lose my ship?

The bubble stops you from warping too. |

Wow that was a classic emorageganker fail.
They might have thought they could trap ships there, like at a gate, and got pee'd when that failed.
What is it with some people? What, they gotta make everybody pay for what their mom's boyfriend or crazy uncle did to them when they was 9? Get over it man. Go see a shrink and stop it with this Jan Brady crap.
However....
While this case shows a fail gank, putting a bubble on a WH can be a defensive move too. I have seen only one ship keeping lookout over WH bubbles so I guess it's about keeping track of who is coming in more so than trapping those already inside.
What I wonder about is, what of this bubble ON the WH? If you get bubbed on the WH, how does that trap you when you wanted to go out through the WH anyway? I once read references to "suck bubbles" and "Stop bubbles" so presumably these would be bubbles offset from the WH, right? I can anchor bubbles but never experimented with this. Please advise... |

High sec wormhole camping is mostly fail if the pilot has a brain and basic understanding of how wormholes work. But there great for weeding out the newbie's :) |

Just FYI this only works if someone has gone one way then out and tries to go back in again.
In other words someone coming into a WH system could jump straight back out again with no timer.
The only time the timer would be a factor would be if you had a WH that took you to another WH (and had both sides covered - in which case would the person even get through the WH in the first place?), or you happened upon a particularly stupid individual who jumped into a camp, jumped out again, waited 3 minutes and then thought "maybe they're gone now?" and jumped back in to the camp.

So how often are wormholes camped nowadays? Has the W-Space population grown large enough to justify/execute frequent camps? |
