As a guy that has played Eve for almost 6 years i have seen many of the changes to this game and when there has been a bad patch it has usually been made up to balance in the next patch.. But when i sat down and read old stories i realised why i dont log on to this game anymore other than to speak with my friends over many years..
So i decided to share one of my best memories of the good old days with those who are interested in reading it..
Background info
Almost 6 years ago i got attracted to Eve after reading about the legendary pirates of the game.. After 8 days of playing i went to low sec thinking my Merlin was a beast, only to get totally owned by a Caracal with Viceroy as pilot..
I then learned the lesson..You dont just jump into a pirates nest and think you`re cool.. Eve was a place with scary people controlling low sec and entering there was not something you did just to change your mind when someone camped. The pirates was older than you, they had better ships than you and more experience than you..
But your corp could always fight back even tho the pirates had better ships..You just had to have a solid tactic cause 1 mistake could totally destroy the plan you had..
FIGHTING PIRATES 5 YEARS AGO
This fight was 1 of my first against the feared pirates and i do believe that Armored Assasins was the corp we fought altho im not 100% sure.
My corp lived in Nonni and was tired of being denied missions in Aunenen due to the pirates there..We decided to take them out and open up the system for 1 day..
This day it was 3 very experienced pilots camping and they had more skillspoints than the 8 of us together.. They had 3 battleships (1raven, 1apoc, 1Armageddon) but we had 7 cruisers and 1 scorpion..
The scorpion needed to jam for 18 points (i think) to have a secure jam on a battleship..With the right mix of racials and multispectrals we could jam 2 of the 3 battleships..
THE MASTERPLAN
In our eyes the fight was gonna go our way but we expected losses.. The scorpion was fit to jam the 2 Amarr battleships and the raven was our primary.. To ensure we lived as long as possible we dual plated a Thorax and was gonna use him as bait..
THE FIGHT
We jumped and uncloaked our double plated thorax first and they went straight for the bait ship.. Few seconds later the amarr ships was jammed but racials was very cap heavy so we needed to take down that Raven as fast as possible before our jammer could keep only 1 on permajam..
The Raven finished off our Thorax and went for the scorpion.. He was taking heavy fire and just barely got our scorp into armor before dying..
We then went for the armageddon as primary and sent all dps on it..At this point we thought we had the victory covered..The pirates was jammed + sentry aggroed and our scorpion still had cap for another 40-50 seconds..Despite the damage we took from their drones before they got popped we looked in good shape..
The fight then took an unexpected turn when the armageddon tanked like a beast and kept steady on 30% in what looked like forever..Our Scorpion now had serious cap issues and had to start cycle jamming the 2 ships and that left them with a few volleys each between the jams..
The Apoc was in range of our scorp and got his armor down a bit everytime he had lock..The armageddon was not in range with his short ammo so he targeted our Vexor pilot. Our scorp took so much dmg we needed permajam on the apoc and left the armageddon to serve us punishment.. The Vexor soon got blown up and he went for the last Thorax that also went down.
Finally the armageddon went down and we had permajam once again.. But the huge tank had costed us our 2 ships with most dps..The vexor and our last thorax..
The score was now 3 cruisers down and 2 battleships down.. The Apoc was getting hit with sentry guns but his armor was still 90% when we started attacking it..

Edited by: Ugluuk on 31/05/2009 16:54:24 Being confident of victory we stopped orbitting and even our scorpion stood still.. We had nothing to worry about.. Then suddenly we saw a ship come in at 150km..Our scorpion pilot almost **** his pants..It was a Tempest!! The Raven pilot was back!!
Needless to say our scorpion started aligning out and warped to a can with less than 20% structure left.. Now we were in serious problems but having HQ 1 jump away we got backup ourselfes too at this time. A blackbird and 2 thorax of ours jumped in and we got a jam on the Apoc again while the tempest was hurting our cruisers..
The fight now looked like this: 7 cruisers vs 2 BS..
The Blackbird got popped in 1 volley from the tempest and the apoc also started locking with our scorp out of the picture.. Suddenly the fight had changed from a secure win to a fight against time to take the Apoc.. The Tempest served us some insane punishment and almost 2 vollyed our 2 caracals and we were down to 4 cruisers again. The Apoc had so much problems now that he could not activate guns or reps and we only saw 1 laser now and then..The huge capacitor was used up and he dropped fast and almost insta popped when he hit structure..When he popped we also lost a another ship (me) and was left with only 3 cruisers.
The fight was over but getting the loot was not easy with the tempest shooting us so we had to bookmark the cans and jump straight to them..This costed us 2 more cruisers before we changed to frigates (lol) but the loot was like a dream..The battleships had named equippment..OMG!
We had fought for ages, my heart was pounding and my legs were shaking..This was the most intense moment of my gaming career and i survived almost to the end..
We had managed to kill 3 huge battleships and we "only" lost 7 cruisers..
A huge victory for us and that day Aunenen was open for 3 hours..The longest period on euro time in ages..
These memories was written down together with many other fights on my old computer for forum posting and when i stumbled over it i thought it could be fun to show people how intense fights we had back in the days when you couldn`t have 1 ship to jam 5 pilots..
I hope that the ones that read it all enjoyed some good old memories and maybe i write another sometime..

I'll bet you were disabused of that notion post haste.
There are just too many people and there is just too much isk flying around for too little hard work.

A cool story. You still can get decent fights though, but they are hard to come by. I think the reason your fight was so exciting is actually due to the fact that both sides were interested in fighting each other, and had the guts not to abandon the battlefield.

Loved that story. Been in a couple of truly memorable fights like that...they just leaving you grinning from ear to ear and thinking, "THIS is why I play this game!"

You can have fights like that for sure every week. You just have to know where to look for them.

When I started playing warp disruptors and stasis webifers were not considered weapons and you could use them without worrying about Concord or sec status. You could also stack MWD modules and get industrial ships doing crazy speeds!
Soloing was also totally viable as it was very rare to see a 'blob'.
Personally I used a solo Blackbird with 4 sensor dampners, a warp disruptor and a MWD. You could own any other cruiser in this setup, BS were harder as you simply didn't have the DPS.

Edited by: Mutnin on 01/06/2009 22:12:01 It sounds more like you have become jaded toward the game being you played it so long. Those kinds of fights are still out there and even as a newer player I've ran into them.
maybe the fights you do get now don't stand out as much because you can handle them easier. Then it was a challenge because of low skill points, now you can likely fly most anything.
Maybe it's time to start a new alt and start fighting as a noob again?

Ah, the good old days when a Tempest at range was actually feared :)
Good story. Coincidentally, Viceroy popped my cherry too, when I started playing on my first character. |

Old ass dudes sittin and talking about what was good with the game instead of trying to make the best of it now or at least quitting and giving me, who gives a **** about it still, all their stuff. Nothing kills my mood more than an old player talking about the 'good old days'. EDIT: Also, if you decide to just keep writing essays about something that doesn't excist any more and accually do stop playing, can I have a hac/hic/cs? (Decide for yourself,I'm not particular.. (can't spell it) ..ly picky) Nah, but seriously bro. You know what I meen. Boost the morale of your dudes instead!

I started playing EVE right as this little Golden Age was ending and stories like that are the reason I started playing the game. Stories like that are why I trained for a tempest... only to see EVE change drastically. We need stories like this because they remind us all of a time when eve was very different and they give us hope that someday it can be like that again.

BYDI doesnt need any boosting cause were the poooown.. uggy is just a old fart that is spending too much time changeing diapers while he chats with us in corpchat BYDI is bringing it to anyone that ventures into our stomping grounds with our ceo online or offline..if a corp cannot function without the ceo, then the ceo did a poor job assigning directors and recruting fighters
