Edited by: Lethin on 31/05/2009 19:15:55 Hello! my name isn't important, but let me tell you a short story.
I live a good life, i work hard and enjoy the benefits it brings me, one of these are paying for internet and being able to afford to play online games such as Eve.
Recently i've been very busy with career and like to enjoy my time at home doing what i do best, playing video games and being immersed in a human created universe.
However, we all work, and can't possibly just drop our lives to be completely sucked into a video, as such sometimes things in games go undone. Last night was a night like this for me. I finished work early in the morning, and wanted to relax a bit and blow up some pirate ships in a mission. some missions take a long time and to my dismay i fell asleep at my computer. luckily my fittings and drones kept me alive long enough for me to wake up and realize i should go to bed. packing things up i went to bed, had a great sleep. woke up; got some coffee, had a cig and logged in to complete my mission knowing that today was my day off from work. more then ready to clear the mission of any annoyances that would dare donate some ammo to me at high velocities.
warped to the mission space only to find it was blank, no acceleration gates, nothing. having had this happen to me quite often i simply filled out a petition and requested it be reset due to the maintenance bug. a few minuets passed, i checked my petition only to see: "I'm afraid that as mentioned in your previous petition by GM <blank> you need to finish missions before the downtime or they will despawn. As this is intended we can unfortunately not assist in this matter. EVE Online Customer Support"
so, to my understanding on this matter i have a week to finish a mission, unless it randomly "despawns" after downtime. i've had missions that i was called away from in an emergency reset and was more then relieved to see it reset for me because, to my understanding its not intentionally supposed to despawn?
after spending some time on this matter over a cig, i have a few questions: Which is it? do i only have one chance to finish a mission before server downtime in case it randomly despawns? or Do i have a week as posted in the mission journal and this is a bug that some Customer service Reps are tired of fixing for your loyal and paying customers?
sorry for all the words, but this is one paying customer that is borderline quitting because im not going to be paying to play a game that tells me "the NPCs may not return after the following downtime." if it was a "for sure" thing, i'd have never started paying because i'm not going to ruin my real life for a fake one.

That's odd. I've heard of people randomly having the missions despawn, but then then getting it fixed via petitions or downtime resetting it. I myself have never had a mission despawn because of downtime, so I'm not sure what that GM is on. I never heard of it being intentional, and if that is a new thing they added then it really screws over a lot of people who might be running missions close to downtime.

From that reply I suspect that they investigaterd and found the mission had the group destroyed in the 3rd pocket (needed to access the can). And when the mission is taken this far, it will despawn at the next downtime.

If the mission objective is completed, then you're SOL. However, if you didn't destroy the trigger that lets you access the can, then you can just warp out (to a stargate or something) and warp back to the mission bookmark, where everything will be respawned.

mission wasn't even close to being finished. i had at best cleared 1/10th the total spawns, hadn't even visited the mission trigger area, nor did i even get close to the acceleration gate leading to the mission critical. and i have had complete missions despawn and have had it completed for me (no rewards given) by GMs.
"I have reset the mission for you this time, however keep in mind when you start a mission you will need to finish it when going through it otherwise the NPCs may not return after the following downtime. If you have any other questions or problems, or would like your petition closed, please let me know."
was the previously mentioned GM <blank>, and nowhere did he mention that the next time this happened i would be SOL.
however, now it seems everything has magically fixed itself.
IF this happens to you, Leave the system, try logging out, and if the problem persists, bang head on keyboard or go outside.

If that is actually GM correspondence that you have quoted there, I think CCP needs to work on training their GMs to actually understand the game they're playing.

If I was a bored *ninja salvager, and I had a bookmark to a WC that was being farmed daily and not completed by another player, there would be some temptation to blow and steal the final loot, or farm the high bounty ships daily myself.
I'd imagine the general lack of enthusiasm by the GMs is probably related to repeatedly investigating missions that have actually been completion triggered.
*I am not a ninja salvager.

Yes, this is danger with missions, that require to return some item.
Mission will respawn an downtime only if it's not marked as compleated. If you dont kill all rats or special building mission will respawn every day and you can farm it.
Missions are usually marked as compleated if all rats are killed. So if all rats are killed and you did not get item, or someone warped to your mission killed all rats an taken item you are screwed. Usually people say that you can petition it.
I had this problem several times and had to fail mission, knowing that we have "best" customer support ever (looks like i was right, petitions do not help).
You will get massive corp and fraction standings hit, but if you are running missions not to raise your standings it doesn't matter much for you.

I had same issue. Try warping to original bookmark. If nothings there. Dock Talk to agent. Undock Warp to bookmark. Mission seems to have respawned.
Worked for me. http://blackmatrix.org.uk

There are 2 issues:
Original long standing issue: Completing the objective (usually killing the last ship) but forgetting/losing the item makes missions no longer respawn after DT. This is on CCP's known bug list/things to fix to make opening container/taking item the completion trigger. As a known bug, you're entitled to a mission reset by a GM. Petition in Gameplay -> Agent mission in progress for a swift resolution. Escalate any petition in which a GM tells you otherwise.
The 2nd issue is new since apocrypha or one of the following patches, mission area isn't there after DT but the objective is not yet complete so it should respawn on its own. As the previous poster said, talking to agent fixes it.

I've found that by docking then undocking the mission site 're-appears' when you warp to it.

Edited by: Jotobar on 01/06/2009 15:48:50 I honestly don't see the issue. This specific situation might have been a bit frustrating for you but if that's what they have to do for technical mumbo jumbo reasons is it too much to ask that you adapt? Just a little?
You had two valid options here: 1) decline one of the longer missions since you didn't have much time 2) Do the mission until you didn't feel like it then call it a night and say to yourself "oh well the first 2/3 of the mission was fun, that an npc thinks less of me for failing the mission doesn't really matter".
Instead you choose option 3 which was writing an long post about your life and how it's impossible for you to plan ahead one hour. I'm not having a go, just find it hard to understand why you didn't opt for nr1 or nr2 instead.
edit: If someone has an resource with typical mission completion times that could perhaps help him as an indication of how much time he needs.

I've had happen to me exactly what the OP had happen to me. Most of the times the GM would simply restart the mission and all was well. I've had one GM even say there was a bug in the coding. Now here's the sad part. Doing a AE or GE (can't remember which), which I was farming, I made the mistake of saying to the GM that I would like the mission restarted instead of clearing it as I was farming it.
The response? GM cleared it and said farming a mission was not a intended feature. O.K., then why do we have a week to complete the mission? No where do I see in the mission specs anything about having to finish a mission in the same day. Nor do I see anything (feel free to enlighten me)that farming a mission is a no no. Only been doing missions for 3 years now and I never had a mission despawn until about a month ago. First one despawned but then re-appeared after I sat there for about 10 minutes while writing up a petition. After that they never did re-spawn.

Edited by: Lethin on 02/06/2009 04:09:12 Jotobar, the reason i wrote such a Long post was to get attention. it worked. those are actual quotes of the emails, and yes, changing systems, talking to the agent or logging out and back in all seem to fix the issue. ty for all of your time.

Ugh, I still have a mission I haven't been able to turn in. I was mining (combat alt had JUST finished last NPC) Enemies Abound 1 of 1 when the traffic advisories started and double BOOT. Because mission objective was completed and it took over 2 hours for Oipo to become "unstuck" I missed out on my mining AND my mission bonus. I'm just too lazy to petition for a 1 mil time bonus. Just have to log in after work and turn it in and move on...
