What needs to happen in order to play eve from a USB type portable hard drive. I use to be able to do it a few years ago but now I am unable, I get an error message that does not go away saying "This application has failed to start because d3dx9_35.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem".
I copied the CCP Folder on my computer at home and in order to play Eve at work I have to do it from the portable USB Hard drive, so is there something that i'm missing?
Plz help.

Are you copying from a XP install to play on Vista system, if so, the XP install will not install DX9.c since XP already will have that. An install on Vista will install DX 9 since DX10 somehow doesnt work with DX9 games.
A least that what I think happens, whatever happens ensure that DX9.0c is intalled on both systems. ------------------------------------- Read my bio ingame for tips on how to live and not be called nasty names by me. |

Nope, going XP pro to XP pro, the computer i'm using it on is a newer computer and i did some googling and found that the file is missing from DirectX, so installed the latest and greatest version of DirectX and its still not working. The problem is, is that i'm not suppose to have games loaded on my laptop so I have to run it off the HD i'm refering to, I may just install it on the laptop and copy everything from the laptop to the hard drive and see if that works. I have read numerous warnings not to download and install the missing file for obvious reasons. Any one had this problem and solved it?

Grr, I cant win, so the right DX9 wasn't installed on my computer, so I installed it and now the file is corrupt. The things we go through to play EVE at work. . ., gonna have to download it and install it on my new comp and put it on my portable HD then uninstall it. Hopefully that does it because if not, i will be unhappy! I never had these problems in the past, its been a while since I had to do this and its certainly frustrating.

Being unable to install this file is a security feature. Only an "administrator" can authorize the installation. I had the same problem/issue where I work at a University, so the "Eve on a USB hard drive" trick will not work.

I was able to solve the problem by installing the DX9 and it solved the d3dx9_35.dll error, but then the whole file was corrupt, i'm just going to try and do a new install and see if that works, if not then i'll just have to rename all the folders and everything in order to have it on my hard drive of my computer.

Make sure that both systems are on the same DX level, then 'install' EVE to the hard drive from one of the systems. This will ensure no problems occur. ------------------------------------- Read my bio ingame for tips on how to live and not be called nasty names by me. |

the fix: 1. Google "d3dx9_35.dll" 2. download it. 3. put the dll into the eve file on the portable 4. ??? 5. profit!

Problem is, that DLL has other dependencies, some of which won't work correctly if not installed into the system folder. It can also interfere with the install DirectX version too.
