This didn't happen the right way.
Mitnal should have, as his last post, made an emo-rage quit thread in GD.

Given that in the screenshot, Mitnal's post was the second reply at 14:54 and in real thread Kyoko had that spot at 14:53, I'm afraid that I'll have to side with "clever fake" (and a funny one, too)... -- Gradient forum |

FYI, Chribba, Firefox has real problems rendering that page showing the JPEG. It only shows the top-left of the image and only uses a quarter of the window to do so.

THREAD LOCKING 101 Class is now in session.
Locking EVE-O threads is one of the tedious and mundane yet quite possibly one of the most rewarding jobs an EVE-O moderator can have. It allows you to assert your force against the populous and even gain respect, admiration and friends. Adversely it can quickly find you under the gun of scrutiny, be seen as an "unfair moderator" and can create enemies.
Now, class must begin.
THE GOLDEN RULE OF THREADLOCKING: Rule #1: You were right.
Locking a thread means that you are taking it upon yourself to nullify the thoughts of the OP, or the drivel that the thread has fallen into. You must stand by yourself when locking a thread to ensure that people do not see you waver in your judgement. After all, nobody likes a sore sport.
Rule #2: Lock at your own discretion.
Don't just lock every thread you see in sight. Though it may be entertaining to go on a lock spree occasionally it is not often warranted. Keeping restraint and only locking the threads that you deem lockable means that your power when exercised is a statement that you rule the forums. Don't let anyone else think they have power over you.
Rule #3: Trolling is acceptable to an extent.
If you read a thread and find yourself laughing, don't lock the thread. Though forum doctrine may necessitate the need to keep the community from spiraling out of control and into a cesspool of hilarious banter, once in a while the community needs that to cut the edge of the serious realities of the internet. Remember, your community of posters are people too (we think).
Rule #4: Quick finger means less IBTL!
Watching the forums like a hawk is your priority. Open a separate window for each forum topic and install an auto-refresher. Have each window refresh about once every minute. Take time to read new threads in as dutifully a manner as possible. If you feel the thread is deserving of a lock, first think of rules #1, 2 and 3, then act if you must. Having people respond to bad posts or posts with no content means your forumers are having less and less to do that is productive, and it makes it more work for you and possibly upsets those who posted before you locked the thread.
And finally,
Rule #5: You are loved.
Your community hates you for locking threads. But they also love you for participating with them. You don't always have to reply and tick the "lock thread" option when you post. Sometimes, your community wants a little love from you, without bringing their party to an end.
Remember these key rules and you will forever go down in the annals of EVE-O forum moderating history.
And good luck... you're gonna need it. :3 |

I haven't been playing terribly long, and have seen on the forums (in my opinion anyway) CCP staff don't seem all that chatty...and some seem very triggerhappy with the lock button.
While I understand you are around to do a job...I hope you are chatty and don't mind having a yarn with us players from time to time.
Welcome aboard Zymurgist :)
PS: What made you think of the nick Zymurgist out of curiousity?

I wonder if "Z" will grow to the same epic proportions as "THE MITNAL" did.
I'm looking forward to stories of "The Z" clad only in his CCP issue bright yellow banana hammock and flip flops, zipcording into threads to lock them before dissapearing all Ninja-like.
I miss those stories about Mitnal and I will miss Mitnal. Good luck in whatever it is you have decided to do. |

You just walked into a filthy, squalid bar in the middle of nowhere in a foreign country. All sound ceases and the antique jukebox grinds to a halt waiting for another coin. You don't know where you are and your car has broken down.
With rising panic your realize you cant find your wallet, cant speak the language and you are going to have to explain your predicament somehow.
Everyone is staring at you. Even the dog.
woof
woof?
Ahhwhoooooooooo! Is better in place. I already miss the dude. Its not the same without Mitty!
