Quote: VirtualBox is a powerful x86 virtualization product for enterprise as well as home use. Not only is VirtualBox an extremely feature rich, high performance product for enterprise customers, it is also the only professional solution that is freely available as Open Source Software under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL). See "About VirtualBox" for an introduction.
Presently, VirtualBox runs on Windows, Linux, Macintosh and OpenSolaris hosts and supports a large number of guest operating systems including but not limited to Windows (NT 4.0, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista, Windows 7), DOS/Windows 3.x, Linux (2.4 and 2.6), Solaris and OpenSolaris, and OpenBSD.
I'm using it myself. It runs EVEmon, Ventrilo, TeamSpeak, and even the Windows EVE client given enough memory. The Mac client works better, but that VirtualBox can even run the Windows EVE client at all speaks volumes about how good it is.
And it's FREE.

Is there somewhere a tutorial for dummies (like me) on this?
I realy don't get it. Am I supposed to make a disk image with the program (say an .exe) I want to run and burn it on a bootable CD/DVD, or what?

Good for you...so instead of selling a product... how about making your post more useful with useful information eh? |

All of that stuff either has a proper Mac version or runs well in WINE. VMs have their place, but given the costs in resources and software licenses, it's overkill for what you're trying to accomplish. ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Null-Sec Player Influence Map http://dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/Veritefw/FWinf |

The fact that it exists is useful for those who didn't know about it. All I wanted to do is bring it to your attention. Mission Accomplished. -- The Theorem Theorem: If If, Then Then --

All you've done is repeat what was said and added nothing to the pile.
Next time do a search.. its been brought up before.
Now we'll have people asking how to install it..where to go... does it work?
Nice work.... really impressive work you've done..... not. |

Last I checked... unless I misread the name... this product is under the GNU Public license.. that means its free.
However.. no thanks to the OP.... it is not a finished product by any means... and requires some technical know how before you get it to work. It's still under development.
You've been warned.
However... that doesn't mean it doesn't work... I've not tried it myself.. but research shows promise... so I wouldn't be too eager and dive into it just yet.
The Current EVE Client as it is now is still the best aside from an actual winblows platform. For little things... should work ok... but without enough information... your just going to come right back here asking questions we don't know answers to... which is frustrating in itself. |

Edited by: SPACE L0RD on 07/06/2009 20:01:55 tried evemon on darwine and crossover and was extreemly disappointed in the slowness and overall interface glitches.
If you have other Windows requirements and want to run evemon and other programs perfectly I can recommend both VirtualBox and VMware fusion. Yes, you will have to come up with a Windows license. For some (like me), it's worth the expense. Most will be very impressed with the performance on the latest Macs. I use VirtualBox (which is free) with the Windows7 rc1 and it runs extreemly well. For apps that don't need 3d acceleration it flies and the UI almost as snappy as the OSX desktop which is really impressive IMHO.

They can go to the VirtualBox website, a link to which I posted. What the ****? Because I like and recommend a product, you think I am somehow bound to provide free tech support for it? What planet are you from?

Edited by: Drake Draconis on 09/06/2009 22:53:38 Think about it... if your capable of such thought.
People search these boards for Mac issues and problems.... very rarely do they ever find any chit chat that's about new stuff.
If someone came along and said.. oh.. cool.. lets give it a whirl... they are likely to come right back and ask you for support.
Why? because in your high and mighty self proclaiming this is the greatest thing in the world OBVIOUSLY have it up and running with no problems what-so-ever.
So if you want to be stuck up on that high pillar of yours and not offer insight and suggestions on how to get it running.. that's fine by me.
But that wont stop the questions from coming in.
Why bother you ask?
It's called being a good neighbor... a friendly face.... people have enough crap flying around... asking and offering help would make things just a little bit better.
Such a concept beyond you? Not surprised.
Let me put it into words you can understand.... how would you feel if you where taken to something new that was reported to work and found you couldn't get it to work... who you going to ask first?
It's not that hard to figure out.
I've done some research... looks good... but not user friendly as far as documentation and forums go... that's for sure.
VMWare's Fuzion may be 80 bucks off the cuff but at least they are a little bit more user friendly.
Hell Wine Bottler/Darwine is better than that... even tho I had a bit of trouble... didn't mean it wasn't working... that and I was using the wrong version according to some helpful people on the forums... |

The VMWare product name is Fusion, not Fuzion, for the record.

so what we've learned from this thread is that there's YetAnotherVirtualisationTool but it's users are unhelpful and obnoxious. you're not really helping the product. even if you haven't the time to explain / can't remember / don't want to give any useful help, there's no call to start swearing at people in the public forum who have shown interest in your post.
a key bit of info missing from your original post is how much of a resource hog is VirtualBox compared to Fusion and Parallels? is it viable to run EveMon inside it on one screen while playing the mac client on Eve on another? |
