Hi, i am a pretty new player and i like what i see in the game so far, and i have seen a lot of stories on line regarding strategy and tactics. one thing that strikes me is the use of alternate characters to exact revenge upon someone and that a lot of people dont like this sort of thing.
I was thinking that perhaps a skill could be made, available only the the CEO, called counter intelligence. with this skill, you can add members of your corp (1 per level for example) to the queue for investigation. after x time investigating, you can then see who they have been talking too in game, what mails they have been sending, who they have fleeted with, or perhaps you could go deeper and show if the alt is linked to any other alts on that account.
multiple side skills can be trained to speed up the investigation time per character, and to investigate further back in time for the target character.
maybe it will go a little way to help protect your corporation from threats? |

If it were to be implemented it should allow a trained character to know that his CEO is investigating him.
That said, all a person who wants to take part in such subterfuge will do is use another character (trial, maybe) to carry out his negotiations. |

Edited by: Bill Bucanon on 05/06/2009 17:07:22 hi,
only the CEO can use it on members within corp, so the spy cant use it in that corp. maybe counter intelligence is a bad name in this case, perhaps Security?
i was thinking about the alternate account, i guess it serves ur right if u trust a trial account and give it too valuable info. on the other hand, using multiple accounts, CPP could always implement something for checking that too?
regardless of what form it comes in, i do believe people would use it, since right now, we are relying on paranoia and our gut. which is leaving a lot of people in the untrusted section. |

By trial account, I meant that people would use the trial/alt accounts for negotiation withthe enemy.
For example, if I were to decide to do the dirty on my Corp I'd use an alt to carry out my negotiations, confirming that I am who I say I am with a fly-by or other arranged, non-logged, even out-of-game confirmation from my main - no chatlogs at all. I could then talk with the character I am negotiating with using that alt - he knows who I am, and there is no record of my chat. In effect, my alt is the spy but he's not even in the corp. |

The only thing of use for that skill would be to see what other alts are on the account, which can be defeated by using an alt on another account. Who they have been talking to, emails and what not can be circumvented by using out of game means. |

any ideas how to get around that? i guess you could report those that contact the player, not just those that he contacts... thats harder to do |

You could make it so... that the person being investigated has to say 'yes' or allow the investigation to occur.
If the CEO is to investigate a member of a corporation. A CEO could ask a member to allow him to do a background check, if they refuse the CEO could choose to kick the member.

While it works in theory, in practice it won't. Metagaming is too entrenched in the playerbase. Alot of people have seperate accounts that they use to carebear/haul stuff and there would be no way to stop them from doing anything with that account because a seperate character on that alt account would never be seen by you, never talked to anybody, and you would never know about it. |
