Edited by: Tiny Carlos on 06/09/2009 22:51:16 Of course Eve is dead, the evil that is the CCP office alarm system and lack of lemon scented napkins have clearly tasken their toll. Fanfest is called off and the servers will shut down in the middle of the AT VII final.
PS. take the cattle prod to CCP Charlie, want day2 vids on youtube now!

Death of an MMO is a subjective thing.
I'm pretty sure some MMOs throughout history died in the eyes of its players long before they became financially unviable. Some even continued to grow after the tipping point solely on inertia. A lot of players stick around simply from the investment they made, and the hope that things get better. Then you have players who had their niche gameplay trampled upon, and for them, the MMO ceased being relevant.
Death usually comes when you don't manage the equilibrium between changing things and not changing things properly. You need to keep things fresh without ruining the core experience. I'm pretty sure that EVE will be around for a long time, because the biggest expense to running the game is customer service. And as player numbers drop, so do expenses (think EVE China). They'll keep this sucker running to 2020, and maybe at some point the hosting and computing costs will be so trivial that the decision to take the game down isn't going to be based on financial burdens.
So officially, its up to CCP to decide when EVE goes under. Unofficially, its up to the players - and even then its hard to say the game is dead unless some kind of majority agrees with you ;p

That's were WOW is now. It cant do anything hard, new or innovative as the mass player base will cry. The game is like a comfort blanket for them. So that game will just churn out the same old tired stuff and it may well keep its existing player base for years to come. Every patch they are dumbing the game down too as that's the market they are going for and, its seems, the biggest market by far. Its also the easiest market to please and probably has the least online time, so less server load.
I think EVE is far from that point. EVE 'expansions' are really content patches so the players are not always screaming for the next fix but enjoying what there is. The fact there are no levels is also a big bonus as players never really reach the end of the game.

There i'm done consider your EiD thread spoiled.
We are in your thread killing your conspiracy theory. I think EVE has a lot of years left in her and no one has ever said anything about the End of EVE. WE still have too many things we want to do with EVE to even consider an end.
Quoted for truth. Possibilities remain abound.
1) Jove as playable (one day) 2) Arrival of terrans (which CCP and GM's will ascend to upon occurance of 1) 3) First contact with a fully 'alien' species. 4) ??? 5) Sex expansion for Incarna. 6) Profit.

Some day people will write books about you. Stadiums, libraries and municipal buildings will be named after you. Whole generations of children will grow up with you as a household name.
The 58th President of the U.S.A. will have a daughter named Nooma K'Larr Kennedy. All manner of pets will bare your name. Nooma the baby kitten? Sure. Nooma the iguana? Believe it! In 108 years, General Motors (now in it's 13th bankruptcy), will name it's first all-electric car after you - the Noomatron GT.
And I, yes I, will have a minor spot in the annals of history because I alone was able to recognize your greatness.

right in one guy. the steadily rising number of subscriptions and steady stream of expansions are merely a clever ploy by CCP to disguise their ebil intent.

While we're not interested in letting EVE die I can safely say that there is an active, passionate and company-wide interest in letting this thread, and in fact all threads with this subject, die a horrible but quick death. Something involving orbital fired, laser-guided, gatling-gun tipped missiles that fire smaller missiles would be sufficiently cool.

CONSPIRACY!!! We must spread this information around. CCP has Eve caged in the basement and is letting her die. We must declare war against those who would let eve die.
But I'm too lazy to do that. So imma go do some missions in eve now. ------------------------ To make a megathron from scratch, you must first invent the eve universe. ------------------------ Life sucks and then you get podded. |

Some kind of vibrating plug might be more popular and go well with WiS. You know there is going to be a massive rise in cybering with that expansion, so CCP could start offering vibrating thorax or avatar plugs in their online store. CCP as a leading innovative game developer after all, so they might as well take cybering in games to the next level too.
