Whaaa whaaa EVE is a pvp game and carebears have no place whaaa whaaa...
I've been hearing this line for years and years, but i think it's utter fail.
I don't like ship to ship pvp!!! There i said it, i don't like it, don't be fooled though, it's not that i don't pvp, it's just that i don't like it.
I've been playing for 5 years now and never got the taste for it, not in defeat and not in victory.
If u like it then good for u and hope u have fun with it but please stop telling me that cuz i don't like 'ship to ship' pvp then eve must not be the game for me.

if selling stuff is pvp, then the girl scouts are horrific warmongering power houses in real life.
I'm going to pod the next one that comes to my door (in game)
Hmm Perhaps if i changed my name to 'Peter Phyle' they might stop calling lol
I rarely bother with market hubs for sales, usually far more profit to be made at boarders to low sec / faction warfare and almost no competition.

So by your logic the arena and battlegrounds in WOW is PvP too? Sorry but the whole combat PvP argument is mute because just about every MMOs these days has a combat system, maybe not as advanced as EVE's but they still operates under the same basic principals...utilizing better equipment or developing character skills is not PvP lol...you can do the same thing in most non PvP orientated MMOs, does that make them PvP games? I think not.
PvP is derived from player killing...look it up if your not old enough to remember. So yeah even WOWs battlegrounds are closer to PvP than undercutting someone on the market. Utilizing better equipment and developing character skills is part of PvP...you didn't actually read what you typed did you, just thought you would try to be witty yeah? Maybe come back when you can think for yourself.
Oh and btw I don't support the OP in any way, in fact I don't like the drivel they post at all. I just popped in to see the flames then saw ppl talking about market PvP and whatnot. I'm just calling ppl out on the fact that they think any player interaction in an MMO can be labeled PvP... that's more like Player vs Economy. EVE already has a rich and diverse combat world that adheres to the true PvP label and that's all that really needs to be said.
Oh and for the ppl that still won't get it sure I could label every interaction with a player in a game PvP which is convoluted at best. PvP = player killing, pure and simple.
I don't think you understand; your argument was that the market in EVE is not PvP because markets exists in other games. I was merely demonstrating that that is a stupid argument. |

Have you seen how aggressive they are if you don't buy from them? |

I'm actually going to respond to the OP and say that the only thing I really wish is that the factional conflict was more then the militia. I'd be all for signing up and getting to mine veldspar and salvage for Navy shipyards. |

You want to talk about "old school"? I played MUDs back before MMOs existed and MUDs and back then it was called PKing or Player Killing. MUDs that allowed or encouraged it were called 'PK-MUDs'.
So the term 'PK' is, from my experience, significantly older than the term 'PvP'. I'd never heard 'PvP' until I started playing Guild Wars.
Beside that, there are the meanings of the words themselves: 'Player-killing' means just that. 'Player versus Player' means any competition between players. Do players have to kill the 'environment' to participate in PvE? No. They don't have to kill players to do PvP, either. "Versus" doesn't mean "kills", it means "against".

Good news! EVE offers PvP in so many ways that you're bound to find a type to your liking.

Fortunately, no-one is saying that. What we're saying is that if you don't like PvP, then EVE is not for you — doing it ship to ship is entirely optional. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

You gotta love being condescended to...
And seriously, some of you guys are disturbingly obsessed with labeling people as either a "pvper" or a "carebear"
a more accurate title for the thread would be something like "IS EVE lacking in non-combat features?"
You guys would make someone think that this game has a class system the way some of you go on and on about what constitutes "Pvp" and "carebear"
And carebear is perhaps one of the most asinine labels I've ever heard. It sounds like something that was made up by a 14 year old child who is obsessed with Halo and has yet to understand the basics of how the economy works.

Apparently the term "carebear" is a condescending reference to someone that prefers the non-aggressive/violent aspects of an MMO.

The carebears were cool when I was 5.
Anyways, remember that the carebears actually kick ass. They can shoot lasers from their stomachs.
Ugh, its late. Anyways, the assumption being made there is that just because someone prefers the non-violent aspects of EVE that they won't ever participate in combat. Its stupid. I seriously doubt anyone is either a pure combat pilot or a pure industrial, because that'd get boring after a while, and restricting yourself to a single activity when this is a open sandbox game is simply stupid.

Depends which MMO it is. In EVE, a "carebear" is someone who refuses to take any risks and/or refuses to accept the fact that their actions have consequences. It's the ones who have somehow deluded themselves into believing that EVE is essentially a single-player game; that they are only "minding their own business"; and that if anyone intrudes on their business, it's a defect with the game. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |
