So I picked up AC5 and started checking it out. It's my first glimpse into this Armored Core universe. I have to say I'm rather impressed. The gameplay is fun and exciting, very fast-paced, etc.
I've tried finding a forum for AC users but the two main ones I found are generally.... "less than appreciative" of noob questions.
Are there any AC5 players out there that can help answer a few questions I have?
1) How do you engage 'ready mode'? I know on some guns it engages before you fire, but how do you engage it without firing the weapon to engage it? Can you engage ready mode with other weapons, as well?
2) I did a Conquest mission and conquered a little piece of land, but.... now what? Do I 'upgrade' that little plot of dirt with defenses? How do I do that? The tutorials really are lacking in this regard, and the Youtube video doesn't go into hardly any detail at all.
3) Team Points: Is there a secret to accumulating them more quickly? I usually get 200 or so for each sortie I run.
4) Teams: How do you go about recruiting people into your team? I'm just a one-man job right now, but I'm sure I'll need to run with other folks to really see some potential the game has. It's very simple, really. If you see Tengus on scan, they are ratting. If you see a shitload of Tengus, the Russians are blobbing. If you see Proteuses on scan, they will be on top of you in about a second. If you see a shitload of Proteuses, the big boys are having a goodfight. |

Hey there, I am a veteran armored core player. I picked up ACV a while back, been hesitant to play much because it is so, well simplistic compared to the old. Now, I am looking at getting into it. If you are USTZ, send me a message in game. I play xbl, but possibly we can team up, check it out more. |

I heard in the older ones there was a lot of really good technical stuff like tuning your AC and all that. Does AC5 support cross-platform play? I'm on PS3. If it does then definitely. It's very simple, really. If you see Tengus on scan, they are ratting. If you see a shitload of Tengus, the Russians are blobbing. You know, I was going to initially. I couldn't really get to understanding it. It felt like my first day in EVE forever ago before they had the NPE.
I think that's why I kept it. EVE proved to be compelling, if not for the lack of a decent instruction manual :P (Yes yes, I know, wiki, ISK the Guide, etc. I'm talking before I knew about those things). I got a rush conquering my first territory, let alone defending against real people playing other AC's (and then kicking my arse) It's very simple, really. If you see Tengus on scan, they are ratting. If you see a shitload of Tengus, the Russians are blobbing. If you see Proteuses on scan, they will be on top of you in about a second. also if you like AC5, you should be happy to know that dust 514 is getting Mech based combat one year after release. There was some concept art during fanfest and an announcement. |

I've not really 'gotten into it' as much as I think I possibly can, considering I've been flying (literally, most of my time is spent in air with my lightweight AC) solo and hiring mercs for the tough jobs, but I'm hoping to figure out this whole team recruiting thing and getting some more people onboard, I can really tear up with some territorial Conquest warfare.
Most instances only last about 10 minutes or so, and the basic missions go by even quicker, but getting into actual PvP with real people is a BLAST.
I think on the PSN there's a multiplayer demo. I'd definitely check it out if you want to see what it's about. Also look at this and this. I think those are really good videos. This if you want to see an awesome intro cinematic. It's very simple, really. If you see Tengus on scan, they are ratting. If you see a shitload of Tengus, the Russians are blobbing. Freaking AMAZING. I can't wait for Dust 514 to hit. That'll be my defacto "waste some time after work before bed having a few beers" game. It's very simple, really. If you see Tengus on scan, they are ratting. If you see a shitload of Tengus, the Russians are blobbing. If you see Proteuses on scan, they will be on top of you in about a second. You should get Armored Core: For Answer, I found that game much better and faster than AC5. |

EDIT: This is a bloody awesome PvP video
I found a PvP video of a giant mech bolting into the side of a mountain with these crazy legs, and then using a giant sniper Rifle. That was pretty impressive : )

I played armored core 2 and believe me it was very different from any other game I'd played back then. I loved it but I'm more of a pc guy nowadays so I rarely play any ps3 games. |

I hear ya. I play PS3 after work when I'm too burned up to really do anything intensive in EVE, or while I'm mining and passing time in between moving ore.
To answer one of my own questions, I've found ready mode isn't something you manually engage. It engages when you're about to fire a weapon that requires ready mode. In all other cases, it'd be dumb to engage ready mode as you'd be stationary and easy to shoot (should have thought of that earlier) and doesn't offer any benefits anyway to those other weapons.
I do agree that some of the other Armored Core games were far more complex, being able to tune your AC's performance and all that, but seeing as how AC5 is what I have, I can't really complain. I'm thinking of getting some of the other AC's that were for PS2 and the PSP for my Vita. I think I saw AC3 and 4 on the PSN as downloadable games. It's very simple, really. If you see Tengus on scan, they are ratting. If you see a shitload of Tengus, the Russians are blobbing. If you see Proteuses on scan, they will be on top of you in about a second. If you see a shitload of Proteuses, the big boys are having a goodfight. |

You can't tune your AC's now?
Like... at all? You have to use a stock variant like on bad mechwarrior servers? :/ There should be a rather awesome pic here |

Well, not in the sense of "tuning" like I would think of tuning a car. Your equipment does "upgrade" as you use it, and the more you use it, the better it gets until it caps off. And you do still buy parts and "refit" your AC, then using those parts to upgrade them as you use them. So tuning them in that sense, yes. Building your AC from scratch, yes. Going in an "tuning" like you would a car engine, no.
Every part you can use (and there are a TON of parts you can choose from) have their own base stats that get better with use. Take a look at this video. It's very simple, really. If you see Tengus on scan, they are ratting. If you see a shitload of Tengus, the Russians are blobbing. If you see Proteuses on scan, they will be on top of you in about a second.
