I've returned to EVE for a bit. I'm curious if a drug manufacturer/distributer can actually be viable. Are boosters mainly used by pirates in low sec? Refresh my memory please, wasn't there some form of lesser booster implemented?

Synthetic boosters usually give a 3% bonus with no penalty. Standard boosters are 20% bonus, and there are higher types.

I use boosters in almost every ship I fly. With properly trained skills I rarely get side effects.

i use them, but they wont be widly used unless made legal in hi sec, as i keep my sec staus above pirate levels, which means i go though hi sec alot to other low sec locations, and its a risk carring them.
if they are made legal they will be as widly used as rigs are.

Is anyone actually using/producing the legal synth boosters? They seem to be mightily overpriced for the little benefit they bring. 1-2mil for a 3& boost over 30 minutes is rather steep. -------- Ideas for: Mining

I use, make and smuggle full strength boosters all the time. Synth boosters are for pussies.
Transporting them in high sec isn't that hard if you know what you're doing. I did get caught once by the Amarr customs, my own fault for not paying attention. I was carrying about 170 Standard Mindflood for which they fined me just 4m , gave me a standings hit that isn't even noticeable and I managed to escape WITH the boosters still in my cargo. I still have the "you've been naughty" mail they sent me.

I'm a blue pill junkie. You can get anywhere in high-sec with illegal drugs as long as you always autopilot through the gate when landing, and you warp away after the jump before decloaking naturally. Just click no and tell the poopoo where they can stick their contraband infraction. As long as you are in warp already or your ship has started jumping before you click no, the pigs won't catch you. You will eat a ~65k isk fine and lose a very small amount of faction standing, but you will keep your drugs.
Also I think the lazy pigs only scan a few people per day before they go into a doughnut-induced coma. I've only been "caught" early in the day after downtime unless I am traveling off the beaten path where the cops haven't had many people to inspect. The cops rarely try to stop me later in the day and I always carry at least one hit with me. |

The more expensive the ship the more likely is the use of boosters. The tanking ones are especially popular but the missile and tracking one can also be fun. The only booster that seems weak compared to others is the Sooth Sayer pile of crap (falloff bonus) - but that's more of a general issue with the concept of falloff-heavy weaponry (read: projectile turrets).
The only downside is the supply and skills. Buying them bulk as corp/alliance is much easier than traveling for hours to find non-overpriced ones.
I currently only use them with dual-rep BS, X-large shieldboosting ships and the Scimitar but might consider more frequent use in case the market starts catering to my demands. |

Synth Exile Booster (+3% armor rep) is at 900k/u in Jita atm and if you train biology to more than level 1 (its a rank 1 skill) you'll have the effects for 20% longer per skill level.. So, for biology 4 you will have the effect for 54minutes. |

Yeah, use them all the time. Mainly the tanking ones (exile and blue pill).
I absolutely love the things and very much appreaciate the bonus they give. With good skills you rarely get the side effects, and if you do, it doesn't hurt much and the positive far outweighs the neagtive. Anything that pop your tank up by a fifth is good in my books. |

Truth. So many people are afraid of the side effects, when with level 4 skills, its only a 16% chance of getting one, and even if you do, its a 16% penalty on whatever it is, which is not particularly game ending. |

the gas sites are a pain to find (though synth gas is easier than the cyto stuff), low sec exploration isn't very profitable and last but not least despite the synth versions being the low sec booster ccp decided in their infinite wisdom to make the only way to get the blueprints for them is to go into 0.0 and run missions for the related pirate faction.
at least in my experience that's why they cost so much. -----------------------------------

I would use them if they would make sense from isk/h perspective (ie make me kill stuff faster). They do not. All they do is to make you tank more. |
