So this morning I was walking to the grocery store and I found a one hundred dollar bill lying in the grass. "No way" I thought. It's gotta be fake. Sure enough it's real.
What should I spend it on?
I don't really need it and was considering giving it to some drunk homeless dude. I have no idea what to do with it. |

Buy 2 or three 60 day GTC's and then convert them to plexes and contract them to me. The homeless guy would waste the money on something essential like food. ___________________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

Think of all the little things that you wanted to do/have but never really had the budget for/didn't think it was worth the money to waste it on. Now you have free money to waste. -------- Ideas for: Mining

You end a good gank by buying the gankee a new ship and giving back all his mods, don't you?

Good joke. How exacty would you go about finding the owner of a MONEY BILL that has fallen in the grass somewhere ? Would you go around asking everybody you see there "have you lost a money bill yesterday ? what denomination was it ?" ??? Chances are, you will find enough would-be owners, and it will be highly unlikely you'll find the REAL one.
Also... why the bloody hell SPEND money you have ? If I have extra cash, it always goes into an interest-yielding bank deposit. I only spend some of my money on things I NEED, not spend all money I have on things I fancy.

Consider you earn minimum wage, around 7$/hour, and you only work 40 hours a week. That's 14560$ a year. You could find adequate housing for as little as 200$/month even in a larger city (it won't be comfortable, sure, but them's the breaks), add another 200$/month for various utilities and public transportation expenses, you could purchase food necessary for survival for far less than 300$/month, so you're looking at around 8.4k a year mandatory expenses, tops, and that's actually a generous figure. You could purchase a low-mid-range computer every year for around 500$, spend another 1k a year on various articles of clothing (practical ones, nothing flashy nor brand name), maybe even spend another 1.6k a year for entertainment purposes (a vacation, a movie now and then, taking a cab instead of public transport, whatever). That's 11.5k consumed a year, out of 14.5k earned. Put those 3k extra in the bank at 5% interest rate (sounds reasonable enough), or even invest in something (riskier, but feasable). At the end of 10 years, that 3k a year plus interest will turn into 34.7k ! And that's savings from a MINIMUM WAGE job at the minimal full norm.
Imagine what you could do with a decent salary.

If you are a member of a bank that has a 5% return rate, PLEASE tell me what bank you are with.
Do a quick google search, even high return MMA right now are topping out at 1.5% or so. Currently my banks scaled MMA interest rates are in the toilet, with the highest return at just over 1% if you got more than 50k in the account.
Still, it beats stand savings (.4%) and checking (.25%) interest returns. --------------- He who stumbles around in the dark with a stick is blind. But he who sticks out in darkness is . . . fluorescent! |

hmm 100 bucks...that's about 3 euro's right? I'd buy some sweet sweet candy with that!
All pun aside: Just seriously think if you have enough spare cash for needed spendings in your bankaccount already. If not then buy something you needed for a while but was unable to get. Otherwise just spend it on whatever the f* you want..it's free money so no loss there |

If you have to ask what to spend the money on that you do not deserve to keep it.
I know someone who found a shopping bag in a phone box stuffed with ú50 notes once. He estimated there was around ú4000-ú5000 (well, maybe not 'stuffed' then, but pretty laden), and was placed in a moral quandary. Being a good christian he decided to hand it in at the bank (for the phone box was right outside the bank). The owner claimed it back and thanked my friend, but didn't even offer him a reward for his honesty. Frankly, he should have offered a 10% reward for something like that. Personally, I think that if you are so careless with that amount of money, you're going to lose it sooner or later. It might as well be me that benefits.
In the OPs case, it's a $100 bill. How is he supposed to give it back to the owner anyway? "Ah, serial number 6547328263464. That's one of mine, alright."
If you believe in karma, he could always spend half on himself, and half on someone else. That might not get you to heaven first class, but it will get you in the tradesman's entrance. |

I know someone who picks up other people's stuff and peeks into them without noticing that the owner stands right next to him.
There is a lot of room for interpretation on how one "finds" a bag with several thousand dollars.
If your friend really found this bag then he should have asked for a reward. Do not be stupid and expect to be given a reward. Someone who forgets his bag will forget to give a reward, too, and still may be a very nice and kind person. |

I would like to know this too. The best rates I've seen are in the 3% region and they all come with horrible clauses and restrictions. ____________________

A non-US bank? I have a savings account, and providing the contents is increased by 10% each year they give out a 4.75% interest, 2.25% if I don't meet the requirement. That bank also offers fixed 4.5% interest accounts, but the initial deposit requirements are a good deal higher than on mine.

Ah, well. It seems that European banks are having a better time right now then the USA banks, which would explain the difference in interest rates.
Right now in the States, the best that I've seen is a 13 week to 6 month temp account (along the lines of a Xmas savings account) that can offer 3-4% returns, compounded and accredited monthly.
Across the pond, I'm not familiar with the current banking trends. --------------- He who stumbles around in the dark with a stick is blind. But he who sticks out in darkness is . . . fluorescent! |
