i mean i cant train skills, on more than one character at a time anyway, so i cant build up a fighter character, and a minning character at the same time.
so what are the benefits of it?? |

You can have 3 separate accounts, and when you are satisfied with the progress on two of them, you can consolidate them into a single account and continue only training one of them. Industrial or R&D alts also require relatively low skill investments compared to, say, a capital ship pilot, and can provide semi-passive income long after their skill training has stopped. You can use minimally trained alts on the same account (or a different account) to scout out dangerous zones before actually entering them with your "valuable" pilot/ship. You can have an alt with cha/mem high attributes which will just train corp management skills to allow your main to focus on combat or industrial skills faster, and split the "inbox" contents in personal vs corp-related evemails that way, allowing you easier management.
Just because the use of 3 character slots (in spite of only being able to train just one of them at any time) is not obvious to you at this time doesn't mean it's pointless.

If you do any trading/industry you can also place them in other regions to do quick price checks as opposed to making the jumps

a rudimentary skilled trader doesnt take longer than 2 weeks to train. same for production and research alts.
a 0.0 suport char that can cloak, haul, fire a cyno and use mwd also doesnt take longer than 2 weeks

I have 2 alts that can cyno and also use POS guns . I can station each alt where i want him and log in when its needed .Someone already mentioned using them as cheap scouts also . I DONT really recomend splitting your training up 3 ways , but just enough to get a good scout/cloak/cyno alt available

Is there any MMO that allows one to level 2 characters on the same account at the same time?
The other characters are great for research and trade alts (both quick to train), gate and market hub scouts (don't require any training), etc.

Ding. Plus, they serve as great spots for bought characters (I'm not gonna waste a second account on a cap alt lol) |

Ok, nuuby question incoming :D
Do you need to have 2 accounts for a capital travel? like 1 account lits cyno while the other jumps..
or this can be done with 2 characters within the same account? (like the OP asked maybe?) In other words, can you jump to an activated cyno, after the lighter logs off :p |

Yeah, ignore that guy, lol
For jumping capitals you need 2 chars online at the same time. The first one uses the cynosural field generator to light a cyno, the other one jumps to him.. so you wont be able to do it with 1 account, since you can be online with 2 chars at the same on 1 account :) |

Ask yourself...
How does Character trading work?
How is that different if you own both accounts to begin with?
I think given 2 minutes and a bowl of wheaties you'll figure this one out.

One more item not mentioned -- a 2nd character is a safe place to divide your ISK wallet. Eve interface is peculiar in how you read and enter numbers for trading. Since it does not allow thousands separators it is WAY too easy to punch in an extra 0 or two. Once you have a few hundred million in the wallet this becomes a real risk.
One work-around is to keep your "excess" ISK attached to a 2nd toon. Transfer it when you need to buy something big. |

What's the point in having multiple character slots in any MMO? You cannot train or skill any of them up at the same time ca you?

Well EVE is different in the aspect that there's no level cap, there's no point where you stop training skills... In other MMO's you grind to the highest lvl possible and get together some gear and you can start a new char, you could do a similar thing in eve but why would you when you can still become more badass on your main?
But yeah there's a couple options for what to do with your alts... |

That is one way, but another is to have you isk working for you elsewhere while waiting to buy something big |

Yeah it depends on the game. In Planetside you didn't have money - everything was free. But you had to have the certification to use something - and you got cert points by advancing in battle rank based on kills, base captures etc. So - it was very difficult to have someone who could do a lot of things as - the cert points got harder to come by as you went up in rank - and you topped out very quickly. So - you could have 8 alts - and people routinely make alts to do special jobs like be a vehicle guy or an aircraft guy or a grunt or a stealther. EVE is completely different than that. |

Back to the same account Cyno guy: When you jump to a cyno , the char you jump to has to be "in fleet' . So a same account cyno wont work , because when you log off , it leaves fleet .

The reason there are 3 characters on each account is so that isk sellers don't have to create as many accounts when a character gets blocked for spamming. :-)
