I recently got an Asus 7970 and I have the same freeze problem. Usually the problem occurs randomly. However, I can reproduce it by opening / closing the star map simultaneously on 4 or more accounts while also undocking / docking a ship. The computer will freeze in less than a minute if I do that.
My System:
Windows 7 64bit
Asus 7970
Intel i7-3820
MSI X79A-GD45(8D) Mainboard
4x8GB G.Skill DDR-1600
Samsung 830 256GB SSD
Western Digital 500GB HDD
Enermax Revolution 87+ 850Watt power supply
I replaced the graphics card with a 2 year old ATI 5870. I tested the star map on 7 accounts simultaneously for 1 hour. The computer didnGÇÖt freeze.
I bought the 7970 graphics card mostly for EVE and IGÇÖm seriously pissed that EVE apparently doesnGÇÖt support it. I hope CCP will fix this soon or at least intensely talk to AMD about it.

The 12.10 driver didn't fix the problem for me. The computer still freezes when using the star map. |

When using the star map on 3 or more accounts simultaneously it takes like 2 minutes for the computer to freeze. Using the star map on one account caused the computer to freeze after 10 minutes. I tested both, 12.10 and 12.11 driver. |

I tested the Asus HD 7970 graphic card in a 4 years old computer. It has an Intel quad core CPU and a PCIe 2.0 x16 graphic card slot. I tested 3 accounts with open star map for one hour. The computer didnGÇÖt freeze.
I also tested the graphic card in my new computer with Intel i7 3820 CPU. I used a PCIe 2.0 x16 slot with one active lane. I tested 3 accounts with open star map for one hour. The computer didnGÇÖt freeze. When using the PCIe 3.0 x16 slot the computer freezes after like 2 minutes. The 1-lane slot is heavily throttling the graphic card. Maybe thereby it somehow prevented the computer to freeze. Or maybe the problem is in fact related to the PCIe 3.0 slot.
