http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/28/arts/television/28eve.html?_r=1&pagewanted=print ôI donÆt think there is any question that my idea of democracy is very different from a European personÆs idea of democracy,ö said Sean Conover, a 30-year-old computer forensics analyst from Cranford, N.J., who as the character Darius Johnson is the leader of a powerful military alliance of more than 5,000 players called Goonswarm. ôI think Europeans are more used to the idea that their political elites operate by different rules than everyone else, and that government officers need to be able to huddle somewhere in a private room so they can say things to each other that are different from what they say in public. What weÆve had to explain is that Americans have a very strong sense of fair play. We donÆt abide things like that, and we want everything to be open. So, yes, there has been some conflict on that level.ö |

What you seem to have missed is they don't huddle into small rooms, and still cheat / steal etc ..
No conflict there ... |

Well considering the 3 things they're most famous for are:
1) Making forum signatures mocking deceased players 2) Launching a threadnought and negative PR campaign against the game when they didn't get their way in a standoff with CCP 3) Targetting individual players with out of game abuse...
Decide for yourself...

Darius was referring to being fair to the people he led, not his enemies. This is apples to oranges.

I see no contradiction there, in Darius's purple prognostication.
Goons believe that their leadership should not contradict themselves in private vs the public opinions. Indeed, they do it in public instead. |

Not a single one of the many players who spammed the forums with racist images etc during the threadnought was kicked. Many received permabans from CCP but none from Goonswarm.

There are about 6000 players in goonswarm, at that time maybe a bit less, so you expect me to look up every guy that has been in goonswarm at that time in that threadnaught to see if he/she got banned, sure, but maybe unlike you, i do have a life :) Signature Locked. honestly, from my standpoint, the latest related events (from 2 years and forward), are just a very big and flashy way of the universe to say "Karma's a *****."
While I expect nothing less than GS and allies get involved in a huge emorage brawl after the sure-death of Kenny, and I really do want to see that since my opinions of GS is pretty much "I don't like them at all.", I'm also of the opinion that poison should be healed by the same poison, and yes, I see Kenny/BoB and GS being pretty much the same ***gotry, with the difference that Kenny/BoB try to put themselves on a higher moral ground (and failing), while GS simply don't care about such. |

I'll be extremly suprised if that standing reset ever happens.
They'll propably keep the NAP up for another few years just in case BoB should return while using it to squash any opposition :)
Looking at this forum for the last 2-3 months you dont really see a difference between the average NC poster and GS poster anyway though PL still seem to have slightly better posters.
But what do I know I'm just an inactive forum***** who prefers sunshine to EvE when I'm not working :) "Subtlety is a thing for philosophy, not combat. If you're going to kill someone, you might as well kill them a whole lot." - Vulcan Raven, The Last Days Of Foxhound |
