This is why a lot of people try to convince CCP that solo and small gang PvP is important to the game. Unfortunately the situation only got worse with the last several game changer patches.
If you could play EVE of 2006-2007 side by side with current EVE, you'd find small fights a lot more common

I'm at the point now, that the rush is controlled during pvp, but once the fight is over everything comes out, whether I win or lose, its exciting.

Now it's mostly gone. It's "Primary, secondary, i'm going to die, you take over, i'm dead. i'm dead too. me too. i got out. i jumped. ok guys lets get new ships." most of the time nowadays.

Frigs get my heart rate high, they're just so fragile little babies. One mistake and boom, usually, and capitalizing on someone elses mistake is the thing. Should fly more frigs tbh, pvp skills are based on frig combat IMO. Especially 1v1.

So this wasn't a straightoff logoffski from our point of view, rather a tactical manoeuvre

Sure.. first you grind the isk, then you setup your ship (getting advice from forums and such) then, getting a decent fight (1v1, 1v3 etc) is like trying to score in the elevnth hour at panic-disco.. sometimes its real easy, but quite often you go home alone.
when all this is over (in a matter of seconds) you have prob spent 10 hrs of game time.. at least if you solo it. in those few seconds its where it all come together, so plenty to be excited about
