Edited by: Jacob Mei on 14/06/2009 01:05:06 Im planning on getting a new keyboard soon and was thinking of getting the Logitech G11, seeing as its a gaming keyboard and ill likely be able to use the extra buttons for other applications.
My question is will CCP have an issue if I were use to use this keyboard on Eve, due to its Macro abilities? I recall reading some threads that said there wouldnt be a problem but want to confirm. -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:

I have it and its a great keyboard.
Unfortunatly, you cannot set up a macro to activate the alt row and the ctrl row. Don't let this deter you from getting the keyboard though, as you can still bind multiple keys to it.
The macro thing you are worried about is not the macro stuff that comes with the keyboard. What CCP dislikes is people writing programs that enable them to set up a mining character that will mine while the person is afk for hours on end. You binding groups of keys together will not bother them at all.

The G15 and it's derivatives are allowed, the G11 is the same but lacks the LCD screen. If you plan on using teamspeak, ventrillo or Mumble I's suggest getting a G15 instead of the G11, the lcd screen is godly when it comes to voice progs like that. |

Since weapon grouping was introduced I don't use it as often, but the G15 comes in handy in EVE. |

Money is an issue and I already need to get replacement LCD's for my CRT's so id rather go with the cheaper older G11 then the G15 to be honest. -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:

I thought that the G15 came out first? at least it did here.
The cost different was only $30, on a $110 keyboard it's not that much.
Go the G15 its a much better keyboard. (don't get the G15 "refresh" its got less keys and its an ugly Orange instead of a nice Blue)

absolutelly YES... g15/11 is great especially when grouping is available, now you group all your weapons to one or two slots and remining alt/ctrl modules can be moved to the top row, so you can activate them with G-key too.
and as mentioned above, it is great when you have g15 and use ventrilo which has native support for g15 keyboard, so you can see who is talking, which is very useful when you are flying with new people |

G11 is 60 USD at newegg where as the G15 is 90 USD. Keep in mind I also need to get new LCD's and money is an object for me at this point in time so every dollar less I have to spend helps. |

The G13 is great as well if you don't want a full keyboard, I just set it below the keyboard.

Well unfortunitely money is an object, that and ive already ordered the G11. I play with more than one comp so if I really need too I can always have the TS show up on another monitor. On an unrelated note, Kneel before Zod! |

the newer G15 sucks compared to the 1st generation G15 and the G11. The original G15 had 18 keys to the right, where as the new G15 only has 6. I'd rather have the G11 than the new G15 (lucky for me I bought a 1st gen G15 and 3 spares). shin out...

Got the G11, someone mentioned there are some limitations to the Macro abilities, can someone whose really played with it tell me what some of those are?
What are some good macros to create with the keyboard? What is the best way to code them (should I put delays between each command?) what exactly is the script function? On an unrelated note, Kneel before Zod! |

Um ... just to clarify something.
The "Macro Miners" you hear so much about - are really bots.
They aren't some simple keyboard macro - they are complicated programs that run on your computer and take over control of the game. Essentially, it's like taking your player controlled character and turning it into an AI Character like the rats in the game so that your computer is controlling the character entirely - not you.
What ISK farms do - is to buy a bunch of accounts - then have a few people managing a number of computers that are running bot programs. They monitor their assigned systems and intervene only when required. They sell their stuff to get ISK - then - they sell the ISK for real world money. All of which is a violation of the Eula.
The bots are a violation in that it is illegal to have some 3rd party program controlling the game and buying ISK for real world money is also illegal. Either one of which can get you banned.
For the ISK Farmers - they don't care. Getting accounts banned and opening new ones is simply part of the cost of doing business.
These people are not playing a game - they are working to make real world money. Those throw away characters you see spamming web addresses all the time - are working for these people. Whether those guys are actually bots too ... *shrug* ... I have no idea.
Some ISK farmers actually have people playing the game instead of bots. They hire some guy in a poor country, put them in a room with others like them and pay them dirt cheap wages to play the game - but then - they have to turn all their ISK over to someone who will sell it on line. Programming bots to replace these players was just an evolution of the system. The first ones were probably just guys trying to automate some repetitive task to Level their characters faster but then realized they could use their programming skills to make money with. *shrug* This kind of thing has been around for a long time. Probably just as long as it took some people to figure out that other people would pay real world money for in game money.
As to programmable keyboards and mice - they are very common and most game companies don't have any problem with people using keyboard/mice/joystick macros that just assign key combination's to function keys. When I played Planetside, I had a Microsoft Optical mouse with 5 buttons I had my most time critical tasks (like using a med kit) assigned to - so that I could keep my fingers on the WASD keys and do things like use med kits in the middle of a fight.

I dont think anyone is debating that. To be honest I felt kinda weird using the term Macro at all, given its negative issues. What I am wondering is what are the limitations to the G11, I've played with it some but im sure there are things I wouldnt normally think about and would like to know from those who have played with it before what those limitations are. |
