So I saw that Steam had the new Ghostbusters game for only $30. I was tempted, considering that the console versions were $60 a piece. Not to mention with the multiplayer aspect, I figured that there would be even more people to play with online if I got the PC version instead of the 360 one.
Checked the reviews to make sure it wasn't horrible, but then what do I see?
NO MULTIPLAYER FOR THE PC!
Thats right, the consoles are able to have their fun co-op, which is the way of the future in gaming, but for some reason, the PC crowd is screwed over.
Thank you Atari for essentially giving PC gamers the middle finger. |

duel boxing a pc and ps3 ftw!
but yeah due to the mmorpg aspect for the pc i think they are steering away from PC online modes for alot of games.

Its the inevitable killing off of the general pc gaming market by the hords of broke as a joke people who pick up a cheap used console instead of a nice budget computer for the kids along with the profiteering of the EA brand of corp management who see the pc user as a far less less lucrative target than the 99% moron base who only play on a console and nearly faint at the prospect of having to use a mouse and keyboard(OMG SOOO MANY KEYS*runs back to the xbox*). Pretty much the only AAA games you see for the pc in the near future will be mmo's and the odd fps or strategy game that simply can't be contained on the limited hardware and input controls of a console. |

Oh, good, it wasn't only me.
Maybe I'm just weird, but I don't see why not having an online component means a game must suck. I like single player games. |

Is the game still worth playing? I like ghostbusters and I was pretty close to buy it until I found out about no multiplayer and I am still considering of getting.. If the single player is worth it. I hear that the multiplayer aspect is just only co-op for crapsoles? |

Its not that. There are game out there that I do enjoy that are SP only. The issue is that the consoles have multiplayer, but PC didn't.

Yeah, but that can be fixed with a patch. I can understand your frustration after a few months, but at launch it seems misplaced.
Anybody else here old enough to remember the Ghostbusters arcade game? That was pretty sweet, back in the day.
Also, who saw the film (not the sequel) in a theater when it was originally released?

Be glad you can buy the PC version at all.
For Europe the Ghostbusters game is a timed exclusive for the PS3 since Sony bought the publishing rights from Atari. There's no data AT ALL for how long that window of exclusivity is supposed to last, but I wouldn't be surprised if they made it 6 months or perhaps even more.

there are rumors the 360 version isnt region coded so some are just importing them.
(course in my Opinion region codes should be banished by law, both in the US, UK and EU as being anti-competitive)

no, steam, like most other online stores (itunes) checks your ip to verify your country of origin. so if europe is not on the list we are screwed.
'service not available in your country' is one of my favourites when trying to buy stuff on itunes :(

Aside from the IP check (which you can avoid with a proxy, atleast in theory), the account you have with Steam is region specific, ie even with a US proxy it wouldn't work.

Bad enough that companies do lazy ports of console games to PC (I've played a few that asked me to plug in my controller and press X). But to actually start removing aspects for the PC release is even worse.
I get the impression that the big companies loathe the PC audience because of the amount of work needed to address all the technical issues, whereas consoles are all the same, and easy to market for. It's a corporate '**** you' for daring to be demanding customers.
And don't get me started on EA's DRM. That ****er cost me a hardrive.

Once you bought something on Steam you can get it anywhere at any time, the trouble is being able to buy it. Impulse (Stardock's answer to Steam) is region independent (I love their dollar pricing), but not that many major publishers release their stuff for it. Ghostbusters isn't on there at any rate.
