Woah, both your setting of the correct display adapter and not overlapping one adapter window over another helped a lot!
Now if only it were possible to run both instances fullscreen (two vidcards, two monitors, why the hell not!)... is this a directX limitation or something CCP can fix? Having to always move each window to not show the windows title bar is getting annoying...
Glad to help. :)
I took a look to see if there was any way to lock a full-screen client to a display, even if it loses the input focus, but there doesn't seem to be a way to do it without being the developer of the original programme. It's obviously possible for a full screen game to claim and control both displays - Supreme Command does this with its handy secondary map display - but obviously the Devs wrote that game to do that, and a single client is running both displays.
Just last week I bought a new PC with an 8800 GTX card, and while my previous thoughts may still apply, the fps numbers have so many digits I can't tell the difference. *woosh*
For the window title bars problem - try using GWR. Start both clients, move them to their desired displays, and turn on Relocate. Suddenly we can see the EVE-Time again. Join channel: "Eve University" or read here |

"Put in advancedDevice=1 (notice the lowercase a and upper case D) in your prefs.ini"
Where is that? I used search function and nothing, I looked into EVE folder in documents & settings and still nothing. Please help. I really need to bring up my FPS.

Running EVE on Vista ultimate edition and my Hard drive reads constantly while playing EVE , no other game does this. Also downloaded the quick fixes and I've got Admin rights through vista.
I'm running on a partion and i had it installed first on XP. I deleted EVE on the XP partion and all files to do with eve and did a fresh install on Vista.
Just want to know if anyone has had the same problem.

I've just returned to the game, but the advancedDevice=1 thing does not give me the options anymore? Is it gone with revelations or something like that? .:: Even if the voices aren't real, they have some good ideas ::. |

This thread was started years ago, but had a little bit of interesting info.
New Vista Ultimate laptop, Intel Core 2 @ 2.33ghz. 2x GeForce Go 7950 512MB, 2gigs of RAM. Beta drivers for the video cards to use SLI even though it's not "officially" supported yet.
Before the drivers I had a station FPS of about 60-80. 3dmark06 score was around 4800.
Added the beta drivers and I run station in 120-140, space in 90-120, combat in 60-80, jita in the same. =) 3dmark06 score jumped to 8700 too. Not bad for a laptop.
I've tried the advancedDevice=1 - anti aliasing-works fine, only 10fps drop it appears in station. Leaving it off as preferance. Changing the buffer didn't seem to make any difference. Changing to XP SP2 compatability mode dropped down to 90-100 fps in station. Not really worried about dropping the graphics down to get a further boost, just wondering if I could make FPS out of nothing. =)
My conclusion - it seems CCP fixed a lot of the older problems with Eve being clunky in Vista on new/newer systems. Dual CPU's seem to be working (I watch a CPU monitor), SLI has a big performance boost, and the extra memory dosen't seem to hurt.
Just figured I'd throw that out there, since people are still asking questions and slightly confused.

The desktopheight, desktopwidth and the buffersize options are no longer in my prefs.ini.
I did a fresh install yesterday so maybe it's something CCP changed.
Anybody else have this?

Ok here's my comp stats. P4 3.0ghz 2g ram 256m nvidia GeForce 6800 gt
Funny thing is, I get 120 fps in station About 60-70 fps in space and a whooping 0.2 fps during fleet combat 50 vs 50 What gives?
I already tried all the suggestions, turned off effects/turrets, sound... I even hide the neocom but still combat between alliances are frequent and more likely than not whenever im engaged in one, I get so low fps that I lag for 5 minutes before ending up back at my future clone body at a station.
PLZZZZ can anyone help?

Go inside the same, dock in station then hit ctrl + F you'll see your fps inside the station, then undock and hit ctrl + F and you'll see your fps in space.

3 ways to find pref.ini on your computer in Winxp ----------------------------------------
1) Location of the pref.ini file: C:\Documents and Settings\user eve is on\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\Eve\Settings\
If you edit the user name and drive initial to what yours is, you could basicly just copy and paste the above address in the address bar *either in internet explorer or my computer*
--------
2) How to find your pref.ini manually.
Open My Computer Select the hard drive eve is installed on. Click on documents and settings Select the user the game is installed on. Click on: local settings, Application Data, CCP, EVE, then settings
Wahla your finally at pref.ini
---------
3) How to run a search to find it.
Open my computer At the top of the screen click on the search button. Select All files and folders. In the field that says All or part of a file name: Type Pref Next click on More advanced options and click on the check mark for search hidden files and folders. Then hit search and wait a few seconds untill your file is found. If you find more than one pref.ini file look at the location of the file, your going to want the file that is in ccp's folder. *It'll have an address similiar to that of the one at the top of this post*

Edited by: Jolliejoe on 27/09/2007 07:53:14 I get around 30 FPS in a simple NPC mission with a quad core, 4 gigs of RAM, 8800 GTX Ultra+... What gives... Hm... how can someone say CCP fixed a lot of the performance issues in Vista?
In-station doesn't concern me because those are almost static graphics so that doesn't say anything. Outside a station somewhat like 50 FPS except for when there is any activity outside where it drops drastically.
Running Vista 64-bit overhere btw.

have reinstalled video-drivers (93.71 now) and directx (9.0c october '06 now), cpu & gpu temperature is ok but the problem still here..
what else can i do? and what fps you have with same graphic card and cpu?
Any device sharing the same IRQ as your display adapter will seriously effect your graphics performance. This problem is actually more common thatn people think. It doesn't have to be conflicting either.
Start>programs>accesories>system tools>system information >Expand "Hardware Resources" >Click IRQ's
Find your display adapter down the list, does anything share the same number? If so depending on what the device is you can disable it or change the IRQ
Me, I had a Firewire card sharing the same IRQ as my graphics card, it took me a while to figure it out tbh, after I disabled the firewire my system stability returned to normal.
DJ,
I have a shared IRQ on my Nvidia 8600 GTS and my Dlink Network card but am unable to chenge the IRQ setting for either. OK i could just unplug the Dlink and fine but I use it a lot. As you know Windows is ghey for this and we have limited control of the way it sets it up. Does anyone know of a program that will help change IRQs in windows apart from LINUX :P Bow Wow wow yippy ya yippy ya!!

Not sure it it's been posted here at all, but I increased my screen resolution from 800x600 to 1280x1024 and my FPS went up by quite a bit.
I suspect this is due to the issues with the interface and the fact that it covers less of the screen at higher resolutions.

I have disabled audio and changed the buffersize to 1024MB. I also put in advancedDevice=1 and changed "present interval" to "interval immediate". I am presently running at a resolution of 1680 x 1050 in fullscreen mode. I did try running in lower resolutions but that seemed to lower my fps. I get about 70 fps in the station but that drops to around 20fps when I go outside and under 10 if ships are nearby. There didn't seem to be any difference between fullscreen or windowed mode. Anyone have any ideas? I really appreciate your help.

Don't know if anyone wrote this already, but you can close "explorer.exe" on the Processes List, and do the Priority thingy. And go to Control Panel, Systems, and change the System Resources thing to allocate more memory to programs running, than running in background.
Also, overclocking and video card bios editing never hurts.

Installed eve on a fresh new computer and it shows 145 fps docked. When I opened the map it still shows 145 fps. Then I closed the map and Yahoo.. It went down to 90 fps and nomatter what I do it is stuck at the 90 fps. Conclusion on this: Never use the map :P
Running on: AMD Athlon 64x2 5600 Dual Core GForce 8600 GTS 256mb pci-e 2048 mb ddr-2 6400 ram Windows XP Pro
Even tested this machine with 2 graphiccards in SLI-mode. It got an amazing 245 fps but got frozen up every time i quit eve so I disabled the SLI and guess what, it went up to 265 fps and it actually worked. Now I only got one card in it and now it work like, well, cant speak in a language like this inhere.
Funny thing is. My other computer runs eve in amazing 190 fps and have no problem at all with anything.
AMD Athlon 64x2 5200 Dual Core GForce 7800 GS 256mb AGP 2048 mb ddr-2 6400 ram Windows XP Pro
As you can see these 2 machines is nearly identical. Only difference is the cpu and the graphic card. The one with the AGP is also the slowest cpu but it is the machine that runs best.
It seems like eve is not updated to run on PCI-E so I think it's time for me to go find some more AGP mainboards and throw the PCI-E out the window.

Thats a really silly assumption to make.
A) Your PCI-E board can be based some budget oriented chipset like VIA's. It can be a low-end intel one actually. It can have sub-par memory performance, sub-par cpu throughput, sub-par drivers, sup-bar anything.
Just the notion that it's PCI-E and the other is AGP, hence AGP is faster..is a silly one:)
Get a good PCI-E board and it'll be just as fast and probably a lot faster.

The mainboard is a MSI with Nforce 5 chipset and the graphic cards is Nvidia GF8600GTS 256mb made from Club3D. The AGP graphic card in the other machine is also made by Club3D and are mounted on a ASRock Nvidia Nforce 4.

I'm having some difficulty finding where to add this. can someone point me in the right direction?
Put in advancedDevice=1 (notice the lowercase a and upper case D) in your prefs.ini now some new settings have appeared in the graphics options in the ESC menu, change the "present interval" to intervel immediate - This one boosted my FPS alot! "Interval immediate" means "no vsync". "Interval one" means wait for vsync. "Interval default" is probably vsync on, depending on your display setup. For the full explanation see D3DPRESENT_PARAMETERS in the DXSDK. <-- Thank you to Mark A for the info about what it does.

Forgive me if this has been asked before. I didn't notice my question in the many pages of the thread but I probably over looked it.
How does changing the eve.exe process priority setting effect mulitple clients running at the same time? When I run my main and alt I have two eve.exe's in the task manager. Will setting both to high priority slow one or the other client?
