Edited by: Verys on 18/06/2009 19:45:09 The problem: As it is a lot of corps/alliance leave posses floating inside space because they can't be bothered to remove them as it takes a very long time (2 hours for a large one who ever imagined). However this leaves other corps to do the hard work of removing them by shooting and in my opinion that makes no sense.
Therefore I have thought out an idea which would make smaller alliances/corps give the ability towards removing them but still not making it too easy to remove them giving people the chance to start them up in case they have no time or forgot to refuel them.
My suggestion: A 3 stage plan which will make the pos removal overall much less of a hassle then it is currently.
1st stage - Shields should go offline gradually As it stands pos towers and modules keep their shields online even after the power supply has been cut, this does not make any sense and it should be changed so that the shields gradually decharge until it reaches 0 over the period of a day.
This makes offline pos removal less of a hassle as you only need to shoot the shields anymore (biggest hp buffer) but still doesn't penalize the pos tower owner too much if he forgot to fuel the tower.
2nd stage - Unanchor the pos tower by hacking it The tower still keeps standing upright if the shields collapse but still keep a good few million hitpoints, this is a nice start but it should be simpler.
If the pos has not been rebooted after 2 weeks time you should be able to use a module (say codebreaker) to hack the pos so it starts unanchoring itself, the idea behind this being that the backup generator keeping the security system online has to save power to keep the tower anchored.
This should take a lot of time for big modules and towers and short time for small modules, maybe depending on the signature radius. The tower should also unanchor at normal speed.
3rd stage - Unanchor by giving the command When the tower or modules are offline for 4 weeks the entire backup power reserve should be emptied and the pos becomes free for all, meaning everyone can unanchor it by pressing the unanchoring option, however the time should be decreased and there should be a potential chance that the pos breaks down and becomes a useless derelict (which should be able to be salvaged) because of the lack of power.
Any comments and criticism post them here. |

Why not:
- Increase charter volume significantly.
- Pos goes offline when out of fuel. It's still anchored and can be onlined after refuel.
- Pos unanchores everything (including tower) when out of charters. Then grab it and its yours.
This would avoid the hello kitty airbag for careless corp members. |

Better idea: Warn the owner of a offline tower after a while being offline that the tower gets kinda neglected. If nothing is done about it, after another while, the tower gets swarmed by rogue drones/taken over by the local pirates and a appropriate cosmic signature is placed on the tower's stead. You can then blow up the rats and maybe even salvage some of the unspoiled stuff. -------- Ideas for: Mining

There are two solutions to this that I like:
Make them hackable / stealable after they are offline for X amount of time.
Make them slowly degrade the longer they are offline so that they can be killed by smaller and smaller forces the longer they sit there. ~ Santiago Fahahrri Galactic Geographic |

If you do this all people will do is stack up on the charters and fill the tower with that just to keep in anchored, they don't take a lot of space compared to other fuel. Also why would it unanchor automatically.

Your idea however does not describe what happens to the tower, does it get blown up or transformed by the pirates/drones or do you get a tower which you still get to have to blow up anyways.

And this is exactly what im trying to achieve with my idea. If your tower goes offline shield decreases (which is the toughest part of any tower) and only the armor/structure has to be blown off making it easier for small forces.
However if nobody takes interest in blowing it up you can hack it after 2 weeks and make it unanchor itself for a few nice quick isk.
If really nobody stumbeled across that tower in a 4 week period then it's free game. |

Towers get converted into LCOs and NPC turrets and you will have to blow them up. You may have a chance to get a faction BPC and larger amounts of drone alloys but that would also depend on the sec status and size of the site. This is to prevent POS collecting to be a unbalanced cash source and makes abandoned POSes a ISK sink. |

bick up a dread or 2 or go and have an op with your corp and spend the hour or 2 to blow the thing up and leave all the mods there so you can lay your pos there and already have all the mods ready to go.

Something needs to be done about the derelict poses that litter the universe. Being able to hack a pos an unanchor it after a certain amount of weeks makes good sense

Have you ever heard about empire you can't get there with a dread last time I heard. Next to that you must be an idiot if you go put 2 dreads into siege (or you might as well bring battleships if your not) without any protection in low-sec.
Also you can't anchor a pos next to pos modules of another corporation which is an issue on itself, if you have no knowledge about how the pos mechanics work then please don't post.

Exactly people just leave them currently because they take too much time to unanchor and others won't clean them up because there is no isk involved in destroying them. |

1 war dec to attack the pos in high sec 2 pos mods you unanchor them then lay pos and anchor them for your self cause as long as the pos mods dont have any dmg ou cna do it otherwise you have to blow it up. |

So I'm supposed to pay X mil for a wardec to clean up somebody else's garbage in high sec?
Next to that you can't anchor a tower if there are mods in place.
