I have been flying all my ships shield tanked so far: drake, Myrmidon and my dominix.
Problem is that relying solely on drones (t1) makes lvl 4 mission take a lot of time. I know that t2 will help me and I am getting there. But I have a question regarding the Domi tank. How come every single fit I find list it as armor tank? I have tried several times in EFT to make an armor tank fit, but I just can't get it to take the amount of DPS I can take when I use a shield tank.
Am I doing something wrong or is armor tanking just not capable of dealing with 500 dps punishment? |

If you're new to armour tanking then the dual armour rep domi is the way to go.
Highs : whatever you want really
Meds : 5 x Cap rechargers II
Lows : 2 x Large armour repper II and 4 active hardners
After you get the hang of lvl 4 missions 1 armour repper will be more than enough. |

Last I checked, the Domi had CPU issues when fitting shield tank and sentry rigs.
Add to that, both Omni links and Drone Navigation Comps take midslots. So there's not really much room left for shield modules, both in terms of CPU and slots. |

Shield buffer is viable on a gank-fit blaster domi, but that's not really mission-viable. The poster before me stated the default mission domi setup. Dual-rep domi should easily tank any l4 mission.

Domi can fit one of the meatiest tanks, apart from very specific ships that get a repair bonus. So if you're incapable of making a domi tank 500 dps then you're using the wrong modules or lack the SP to keep it going. Domi is probably the easiest to fit; 2x LAR, 4 hardeners (2 per damage type), DC/CPR, cap rechargers in mid, CCC's.

I already got the hang of it. I have been running them for ages. I just don't understand why I can't bring an armor tanked Domi to take the same kind of punishment as a shield tank. In EFT I only manage to get the armor tank (with 1 repper) to 300ish dps. |

Because you need to fit 2 armor reppers to come to the performance of a single X-L shield booster.
A shield tanked domi can use 425mm rails and 3 magstabs, contrary to armor tanked one. However the downside is that they will have terrible tracking, and you cant fit drone mods in your mid slots. |

You hit the nail on the head. Shield tanks take midslots, the ewar and drone modules that increase drone DPS take midslots, the Domi has relatively few midslots so it can't fit both.
You can either have your shield tank and better guns or you can have an armor tank and better drones but you can't have your TPs/drone boosters and your Mag Stabs unless you want to fly a piece of tissue paper. Personally, I heavily prefer the latter for PvE use an armor tanked Domi for PvE because 4 guns aren't all that impressive, no matter how many mag stabs you throw on them. ***************

1) Get t2 drones, now. You're not allowed to complain about the DPS of a domi when you're not fitting its optimal weapons, especially given that unlike guns (excluding pulse lasers) it makes a HUGE difference when you move from t1 to t2 drones.
2) Don't compare an XL boosted setup to a 1 repper setup, because you're essentially comparing an apple to half an orange. XL booster + SBA = 2X LAR With 2 LAR IIs and tech II hardeners your domi should be able to tank 1k DPS easy in a mission |

Are you trying to permatank? are you also trying to omni-tank? my normal Domi fit ( faction LAR, 3 t2 hardeners, two aux nano pumps ) handles 460ish serpentis, over 500 sansha, and does actually permatank if I don't shoot anything. Dual LAR fits can tank silly stuff.

How does that sacrifice an omnidirectional. You'll still have plenty of cap, no doubt about that. Get rid of the CFCs...
