It has come to our attention that you cancelled your subscription to EVE Online due to in-game issues. Your cancellation came at a time when players expressed dissatisfaction with the introduction of the Noble Exchange Store.
The community's unease with the Noble Exchange Store and other issues prompted us to hold a special summit with the Council of Stellar Management. The statements from CCP and the CSM following that summit can be found here. We wish to emphasize a part of our statement which is "it is CCP's plan that the Noble Exchange (NeX store) will be used for the sale of vanity items only. There are no plans, and have been no plans, as per previous communication and CSM meetings, to introduce the sale of game breaking items or enhancements in the NeX store."
It is our sincere hope that you will return to EVE Online. For that reason we are offering you a free five-day subscription to evaluate the game again. After that you'll be able to resubscribe for the reduced subscription fee of 9.95 for the first month of your return. Click the link below to activate your free five-day subscription:
Sincerely, The EVE Online Team
Dear CCP,
Thank you for being so concerned for my alt account. However, the truth of the matter is that before I un-subbed my alts, I decided to wait until the contents of the winter patch to re-evaluate my getting active in EVE again. Until then, I will continue skill flipping on my main account while my alt accounts remain un-subbed. To quote Hilmar: "What they do, not what they say". I suspect that most of the serious burnout cases like myself will decide that that point in time is the earliest point for re-evaluation. A significant chunk will probably wait longer. If they ever come back.
You can thank the rest of the MMO industry that there is no other space sandbox quite like EVE for the fact my main remains skill flipping. I'll probably be back once some fixes are in place. Of course you could always screw the game up more and I'll re-evaluate in the opposite direction or decide that there aren't enough changes to come back quite yet.
One rather big heads up: Although CCP soundwave's ideas and comments about FiS sound level headed and solid, his comments about what he would like to see on the carebear side disturb me greatly. Those have the carebear side of me thinking full blown un-sub. For now it sounds like you've left any industry re-vamp in grayscale's hands. That's fine, just be aware that the carebear side of EVE is more of a silent majority, more likely to simply un-sub without any visible protest. Pls check with Dr. E regarding high sec vs 0.0 population numbers as to the potential impact of this.
The most recent wave of "fun" in EVE was "CCP's comments and handling are pissing me off and 0.0 is broken". You might want to be careful it does not turn into "CCP's comments and handling are pissing me off and HIGH SEC is broken". You have not yet hit a Starwars Online NGE moment. You still could.
Side comment about the NeX: One reason I think your strategy is flawed is that the current NeX store strategy is probably going to convince newbies to stay away from your game. One way MMO players evaluate store items is by analyzing them vs-a-vis their in game earning potential. "If I wanted to grind isk to buy plex to buy an item, how long would it take me?". Ask yourself this question from the point of view of a 2 week old newbie who's learning the game and is still in his first few frigates. Just about all other aspects of the game are reachable within a month or two of starting (more like the start of those paths, but still). I have sent newbies to go play in 0.0 within a few weeks of starting the game (they really do need the right mindset for it though). Rubbing their faces in a game aspect that they feel they won't be able to access for a year or more is probably counter productive (all that advertising for the NeX).

I'm really glad for posts like these because they really give passionate, and constructive information about how one feels not just about EVE, but the direction we've been taking her as a company. I hope you don't mind that I send your post along to a few people in the company :) CCP Fallout Associate Community Manager EVE Online @ccp_fallout |

OP really started losing me in the last few paragraphs. HIgher-tier crap is now more accessable than ever in this game. The amount of ISK floating around now is ridiculous compared to 2006, let alone launch. |

One of the very best posts I have read anywhere on these forums, thank you, Letrange. I too am concerned by the comments made to basically nerf Highsec in an attempt to get those players into low and nullsec. Huge mistake if that ever happens.
Thank you for your insightful comment, you are obviously a seasoned veteran of this game which I still love and still play, unless the latter-mentioned is nerfed the way it has been suggested by one of the CCP.
Cheers.

Let me put the "Community Seal of Approval" on his post. I think his arguments would be made by a lot of people, if they could still be bothered.

Finally.... a post worthy of reading, i have been worried lately as to the amount of 'moaner' threads lately and this is a breath of fresh air. Perhaps the CSM should look at this post too and realise it is not all null sec and their big alliances.
Thumbs up for thinking out of the box from the whiners. your respect is meaningless, and i only represent my constituents - not crybabies with entitlement complexes

Yes - that's a dilemma many of us face - if there was another decent pvp-heavy mmo with a single shard universe, time-based skill progression and player run market, many would just have left for greener pastures after incarna (ok - perpetuum comes to mind, but i didn't quite like it for some reason I can't exactly nail down.).

I'm not that sure about that one - for the time being, I have parked both my remaining characters in highsec as I'm not really actively playing due to lack of new/changed content and I wouldn't join an alliance that would accept anyone displaying my current activity levels. Once or twice a week, I run an l4 or two whilst watching TV and checking if some old mates are online to have a little chat - yet I would happily accept CCP completely nerfing highsec into the ground. As for the hardcore carebears - why would they care? There's only one 30 bill pimp-BS one can fly at any given time, so they don't need the money anyway - I respect their way to play the game, but I doubt they do what they do for the isk, but only to relax after work...

My main gripe about the pricing strategy would be that it's not coherent. I could easily outfit every single alt with a monocle, if I'd see a point in it, but having a monocle cost as much as 2 unfitted carriers (capital ships with an entire crew after all) is just immersion breaking. I'm not a roleplayer, but although eve is highly unrealistic, it used to be coherent in itself - with incarna, that policy was seemingly completely abandoned - be it out of whack pricing strategy (imagine a watch at the price of two Nimitz-class aircraft carriers - yeah - right) or undergoing a major transition in your whole metabolism each time you want to refit a module on your ship.
I also stayed with eve because of said coherence, which I liked - if I had started today, I'm not sure if I had stuck with it after realizing above problems.
And no - not everything can be explained with nanobots and jovians. |
