http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1103281 I have personally never flown a T3, but the above topic made me think if it's possible to change the subsystems in-flight, like normal mods. Reading the linked post, it seems rather hard to change the subsystems in-flight =(
Any T3 pilots who can adress this?

I'm not entirely certain but I'm fairly positive you put the subsystem in upon assembly so you wouldn't be able to change them in space. |

Edited by: sp009 on 22/06/2009 03:06:49 I'm not entirely sure about this, but if u had a orca in space with u i dont see why you couldn't swap em out in space. Soon as my corp m8 logs in i'll check it out |

no you can not refit subsystems in space!
the only way you can exchange subsystems is to dock in a station or outpost
it totally sucks, i was in w-space tought i would have a really cool utility ship, first i setup as a explorer then when i found the sites ill change to tank and spank and could also change over to a pvp centric setup... but NO it is not possible because you need to be docked. So much for utility on a t3 ship thats only useable with stations around. Another carebear toy.... |

A subsystem is part of the ship, not a mod added on to the ship. It makes sense that you can't change it in space. Especially to prevent people switching mods out in space like in wormholes. I don't know, when you start trying to use it to switch out mods in a wormhole so you can do it by yourself it sounds pretty carebear to me. |

It feels a bit like a stupid game mechanic to me. Having a captial ship, or a ship maintanace array should mean that you're able to refit subsystems. Why, Well, a capitalship can scoop the ships, hence pull them out of space. The ship maintanace array can so to. I might add that it's strange that you can change any mod without dockig since I doubt a crew of bots undock from a ship carrying the new shiny cannons.
Taking the above in mind, parhaps the the whole refitting in space should be changed so that you choose a setup, click ok and the capital ship/array pulls the ship in and then spits it out. This would also prevent ships like Bs's to refit at an orca (Don't hate me for this) since the orca cannot carry a Bs.
Just an idTa, since not all corps/alliances have accses to say outposts, a capital or an array should do fine to.

Because setting up and maintaining a POS in w-space is also a solo carebear thing. - FAIL.
But that is besides the point: By killing the biggest / only advantage of strategic cruisers--their ability to rapidly reconfigure to fill multiple specialized roles--in w-space, CCP is telling us not to use them there. A set of T2 ships is better AND cheaper to have on hand than one T3 ship.
So... Why??? Was it too technically difficult, or was it a balancing issue?
