CCP, for god's f*cking sake, will you please, just consider, PLEASE, making SOME systems look like real space.
PLEASE make the background space for SOME systems be just black space with only stars in the sky. (no bright nebula cloud covering up all the REAL space)
Real space: http://www.hope.co.nz/projects/stars/stars_ss_dx_org.jpg
Eve: can't get this link to work, but you all know what it looks like.
Make it random if you want, but doing it by region would be even better. Like making certain (same colored) nebulas or even... new and interesting astral bodies (OMG no he didn't!) visible in systems close to each other. And having other regions, possibly MANY star systems... have no visible clouds at all, or even see clouds and cool things in space from a further distance.
Do you mean to tell us that every single star system in New Eden is surrounded by a bright puffy cloud that is extremely close to the sun and each one is a different random(?) color.
My ONLY goal in this idea is for game immersion and feel.
PLEASE F*CKING DO IT.
Would this not be SO EASY? I'll F*CKING DO IT for FREE...
something like this, would visually blow the current EVE away completely.

My language is just words, and these words are being used to show how strongly I feel about this issue, if CCP or any players are offended by "bad words" first of all, grow up. Second, who decided certain words are "swear" words? or "naughty words"? you're mom? you're teachers?
This is a Real life feature and idea, stop considering some words "bad" because you were told they were when you were a kid. Do not discredit me for using the 'F' word, or any other "bad" word, they're just expletives.

Do you even know what those words mean? If you did you wouldn't be saying something so... well, ignorant.
As to your proposal however, that I would support. I've always been interested in astronomy, and the fact that every last solar system in eve is in the middle of a nebula kinda bugs me. |

I absolutely agree. Space just seems way too bright right now. |

There is no language with "just words".
You are contradicting yourself. First you say you use these words to convey how strongly you feel about this particular issue, then you go on practically saying that these are some sort of nonsense words. They exist and are widely used so obviously they're not. You are, after all, using them yourself for a purpose, which implies that you understand at least some of the implications and consequences using them might have.
Try reading up on pragmatics. A classic (though, debated) theory on politeness (sadly, a word that has no good definition within its field) suggests that you should aim not cause discomfort when making a request.
Do not trash talk the food in front of the cook if you hope to borrow money from him afterwards.
Of course, most people do not need to read lengthy books on linguistic theory to grasp that.
Anyhow, I agree with the OP. It'd be nice with some systems being vastly different, even to the extent of being "black" with a background of small twinkling stars in the background, as suggested. The explorer in me wants, nay craves it.
It would quite nicely portrait the desolation in EVE.
Rather than just making the systems look better with the ongoing Trinity upgrade, it'd be nice if some systems really looked different than others including suggested "local luminosity" so to speak. |

I would like to have some black sky systems without nebula too.
But i think it's a roleplaying level problem.
I'm not sure how large the nebula we can see is, and where the solar systems are placed within.
So if ccp just keeps the systems appearance to be in line with the concept behind, then it's ok and the systems should not be changed.

I'm don't agree. Want real space? Look upwards.
EVE is a game, and IMO a game is to look beautyful (or scary, if the game's setting requires so), but not boring.

Yes, more variety and realism please. An actual 3d skybox would be nice and a representation of a real galaxy so you can actually tell where in teh spiral or whatever you are and a different representation in each system.
Why are there no environmental variables in normal space. Super massive black holes in the middle of all galaxies. Eve region must've really fluked out not having any around.

You honestly claim that the current backgrounds are nice?
And yes, I can understand that black-and-white space can get boring (for some), but current coloring is way overdone. It actually is boring, it doesn't convey the vastness of space, it's low-quality (sorry, CCP). Also, the pinkish one is so bad people try to locate corp offices so that they can avoid the pink space.
As for not-realistic non-boring, we have overdone bloom and lasers visible in space. CCP could leave that for you :-P (but I order licensing laser effects from Freespace 2. Along with sound effects).

Partially agree.
The current 'clouds' are verry colored and intensive. Not much like what i would expect in space, it looks more like what i would expect in some kind of phantasy game where you can hang arround between clounds in high skies. The clouds look verry 'solid'.
Maybe it's a kind of comic-style.
I would really see comments of the artists team on the nebulae graphics.
I'm still not sure if we just dont understand the product and need to become it explained.

The EVE cluster is a very very dense cloud of stars, so it's not to have stars surrounded by particle clouds seeing as they were all born in thick nebulas.
That said, you could explain the intensity of the nebulas with the pod's neural interface. Just like how it synthesizes sound from things that happen around you, it might "up the contrast" of the background, so to speak. That way it allows you as a pilot to notice dark objects against a lighter background. -----

It's mostly based on fake-colour of space photos from telescopes - only, IMO, overdone. In real space nebulae are "dense" only in void terms - you wouldn't notice, but a ship going at 0.9c relative to the nebula would probably need a very nice ice shield.

The contrast adjustment! It does nothing!
Actually I see no contrast, I see strawberry soup with some weird stuff in it. Actually, I would use exactly your reasoning if I've seen something like this in Eve, but that's exactly because on the photo the space is mostly black. In Eve, space is mostly strawberry soup. Or worse. |

Great image in the link! Thanks for this.
I would like to see the background in eve more like this rather than the opaque style we have now.
More transparency, less opacity. |

That's the Horsehead Nebula, but you probably noticed that from the image name. Yes, it seems bright on the foto, but notice how the stars look in there. It's extremely dim. But I would expect to be able to notice at least the galactic rim - just as we can from earth (erm... could, before we started posting messages to aliens using city lights, that is. Last time I actually saw the milky way was some four-five years ago, I think ). And that is, actually, an extremely pretty sight, and I can not imagine how someone could get bored by it. That may be lack of imagination on my part, of course :-)

Easy fix?
New options in the UI theme thing (where you set UI colors and opacity): Nebula textures: On [X], Off [ ] Nebula texture opacity/alpha: 0..|..............1.0 |
