I just received this email:
Quote: Dear EVE user '***',
Due to upgrades to our billing system we have to ask you to update your billing information as that change will otherwise cause your current subscription plan to be cancelled on the 1st of July 2009. To do this you will have to go to the EVE Online website, click on the account management on the left hand menu, log-in and then update the billing information found under "Subscription Details". We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.
Please note that for your safety we have included a description on how to do this, but we have not included any links in this email. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact [email protected].
Best regards, The EVE Online team
Is this genuine? Did anyone else receive this? What happens to the last 28 days of my current valid prepaid subscription period?

I'm fairly certain this is legit. Its the emails that have an embeded link to the 'account page' that are the killers. |

Just got one of those myself. The 1st is just around the corner, so if it is legit it'll be insane for all the people who are not subscribed to mail-outs. |

Its legit. CCP Made some changed on their end and as such you will need to re-subscribe via the account management section after your time is up. ___________________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

Most likely. Besides, that email cant hurt in any way either, except as spam.
But its pretty easy really to solve. Just do as the mail say: log on to your account from the left bar. and update your account setting. Since theres no link to follow from the email, and since you now are on the safe eve online site, you should be safe.
I think.
Unless someone have hacked CCP. Taken over their intarweb domain, changed the forum code, and stolen all the stored account information. That would be unfortunate. and a little sad.

It is legit, if you're suspicous of the link, simply goto the account management section of Eve-o, IIRC theres a simular note at the top of the screen after you've logged in.

If you get mail you are unsure about, petition it. Always, regardless, log in to you account by typing in the URL/using your own old bookmark to the eve-o site, and go thur the account managment link.
Never ever follow a link in a mail you got.

Sigh. I decided to update my subscription information, since CCP asked for it when I logged in, but when I reentered the information like Visa number and other account information I again signed up for additional 12 months subscription time in addition to the remaining 6 months of the 12 month subscription. So now I can play EVE online for like 550 days!
Dont have anything against that really since I plan to play eve for "ages", and maybe it was my mistake too, reentering the allready added info. And since I got the gametime I wont bother petition it. But it was unneccesary anyway.
Oh well. I can play til about 31th of december 2010 now..

The email is legit, if you've recicieved it or if there's a note about it in your account management page saying the same thing you need to update your billing information. If you didn't recieve it and there's no note in account management then you don't need to go and update that information. To clarify one thing though, if you don't update the information your account will be closed when the billing cycle after July 1 runs out, not on July 1, and then you'll just have to reactivate your account so it's not the end of the world but it is a bit inconvenient.

I got that email too and yes its legit in your account management. I have updated my billing info and i've been charged another subscription !!!
Your payment method has been updated. We have charged you for XXX, and added the remaining gametime days to your subscription. That means you will not be charged again until XXX 2010.
Your transaction reference number is: XXX
That's a very sneaky way of getting extra money out of your customers. I'm not impressed. I've faithfully paid my subscription since 2003, and obviously that's not enough for you.
A very peeved Viscount Hood.

What isn't made clear, is the fact that when you do update your account details, it then bills you for another subscription interval.
Meaning I am now subscribed until March 2011. I am not at all happy about this, being as there is nothing to say it would happen, it's a bloody good job I had the cash in my account.
I would like some sort of response to this please. |

So it sounds like the Scam is from CCP. What? CCP is short on money and the bank won't loan them so they think up this cute little trick to get a extra infusion of cash? In short nothing needs to be really "updated" other than CCP's bank acct. My acct is paid thru Sept and nothing in my acct needs to be changed. If my acct is suspended I will simply call my credit card company and have what I paid returned.
Now CCP, give us a good reason why our accts need to be updated other than to fatten your wallet.

If, by updating the billing information, you also get billed for a new period, please contact Customer Support via email or go here to create a petition in the Billing category. Our Customer Support team will then refund you for the time that was added to your account.

But do we want a refund, credit crisis or not it a really strange that the update also gives directly an a year subcription fee. I think CCP has made a litle mistake in this that also deducted you for year. I think the hardcore eve players will pay afterall. They had just set automated subcription on it and ask players if they updated there account information. And they would be charged automatically if there time runs out.
