Hi I've been reading post about how the drake doesnt pack a punch but it can take a punch is this correct if so is there some way how it can really do some damage?

Unfortunately, not really. When it comes down to it, a Drake will always tank like a champion but hit like a schoolgirl.
A small, sheltered, preppy schoolgirl.
So, get a Raven. It doesn't tank as well as a Drake, but it does more respectable DPS.
Though, I will ask after all of this, what do you intend to do with it?

It's quite easy to tweak the damage/tank ratio, but indeed, it's much easier to increase tank rather than increase damage. It deals less damage than other race's battlecruisers (especially when using heavy missiles), but it deals it at a much better range (even with HAMs).

I use a drake for L4s, may be a bit slower than a CNR, but I don't have Caldari BS or Cruise Missile skill. I can tank so well, however, that I can go AFK in the middle of a mission and come back without worrying about dying. That kind of security makes me confident enough to fit it with all kinds of expensive meta 8/faction items to increase DPS. |

Hmm, your getting bad information here, the Drake has some of the best dps of any batlecruiser and can tear other BCs apart. Having said that you will need good skills and to fit heavy assault launchers for the best dps. Mine can do close on 600dps, dont believe all it can do is tank, thats a load of rubbish.
You can get the 600dps with a 19,000hp buffer tank, MWD and scram.

Edited by: Davinel Lulinvega on 27/06/2009 01:54:09 Fit hams and 3 bcu. Does around 600 dps.
Sounds like you've been talking to passive tanking carebears too much.

Myrm can have a nice tank also but i wouldnt be afraid of putting the assault drake up against a myrm and imo the drake wins, the one BC the drake has to be wary of is the Harbinger,

One more thing, if your going to be using it in 0.0 for gate camps then you probably want a regular heavy launcher drake, by the time you MWD into range your target is already dead ;)
Make sure you buffer tank your 0.0 drake NOT passive and fit 3 BCUs, will still give very respectable damage, 500 dps including drones with good skills |

A blaster gank myrm might be able to do a little more dps than a drake but the tiny range of blasters and its low speed make it not worth it. 1v1 a ham drake can probably beat any other bc because it has good dps, range, and massive tank. In gangs harb, drake, and cane are all about equal followed by brutix and myrm. The rest are pretty crappy. |

Yes. A drake with heavies has very nice range and damage. |

Yes, I'm cheap and don't want to fit 17mil launchers on it :D And unfortunately T2 launchers would require top skills + implants to fit. If you prefer an AB instead of the MWD you could fit a medium neut/nos in that empty high slot. |

The Drake is a very nice ship, very good dps especially if you overheat but you need to fit it right, and for that you need very good fitting skills and a powergrid implant.
If you are flying solo or small gangs go for hams, anything bigger and heavies is the way to go.

i think that is mainly due to that even with a great tank setup the Harby still hits at the weakest resist of the drake.
of course the HAM Drake if in close enough and setup right could try to beat the transversal of the harbringer(though id imagine no harby pvp fitter worth their salt would leave the Webby at home).

A bit of messing about will get you 3 x BCS II's and more oomph.
With my mains skills this gets you something approaching 500dps and 64k EHP although those stats are EFT's not Eve's

Edited by: Dagobert Dog on 01/07/2009 09:40:46 Dont talk nonsense. The drake deals less damage than any other BC in game. Even with hams its outdamaged by any other BC with short range weapons. 600 dps with short range weapons is not good compared to the other BCs which can easily 800 to 900 dps.

In theory drakes deal the least damage of the teir 2 battlecruisers. However in practice, they seem to deal just as much if not more because of the nature of missiles vs guns - always hit for full damage and don't have to run into range.

The lack of targer painters is disturbing me.
I get a decent gank/tank balance out of a PVE Drake.
3 x Core Defence Field Purger
2 x Large Shield Extender II 2 X Resist thingy II 1 X PWNAGE 1 X Shield Recharger II
3 X BCUII, 1 x Shield Power Relay II
Oh and 7 x Malkuth/Arbalest/XRsomething Heavy Missile Launchers with lovely Scourge missiles.
Chuck some drones in, and sit back and kill things from miles away. Target Paint and Press Fire Button. 4 Salvoes should kill most things.

Quoting the people who have no clue. Drake gets very good applied damage due to the nature of missiles however can suffer a bit at range due to missile flight time.

Compare the EHP of other gank BCs with the EHP of a gank drake. (spoilers: the drake has 2-3x as much HP, and it deals its dps from further away than the gank hurricane/brutix/harbinger with short range ammo) I find that drakes tend to deal more damage over the course of a fight simply because they don't get primaried due to huge dps + weak tank combo... __________________________________

Drake is fine. If fitted properly and offensively it has an excellent ~60k EHP buffer and more than enough damage. You can safely ignore those that say it has rubbish damage and its good only for missions. And either hams or hms are fine. Its matter of choice and what you wanna do with it.
