I don't know why the scan probe bubble effect on the system map was changed awhile ago but its impossible to see your probes in certain systems now. When overlapping, the gridded bubbles create a horrible shadow effect making it very difficult to locate your probes to move them around. Please change this... its a very simple fix. |

Yes, I have gotten so frustrated with this that I havenĘt been scanning much lately.

was it the same guy who they put on 'upgrading' the effects on POS shields?
If it was, I suggest you adjust the scan probe spheres as you did the POS shields some time back and also, don t forget, keep a real close eye out on what comes out of this dudes workstation in the future, please.

When they introduced this skin, they also messed up the code for result echoes, making the proces even more frustrating |

Also, hits selected in the results are unselected by de/activating probes making it bleeding impossible to keep track of a single result in a busy system and recalling say probe number 5 makes probe number 1 come back as well. TBH the whole scanning UI is buggy as crap and wants sorting out at the next convenient juncture, with that in mind...

Yeah, probes need a look at badly...
I've also get an annoying one, where when you are trying to move probes in the map screen, they jump around at different positions, and dont keep to the position with the cursor.
Makes it very hard to position them :(

Yep. I encounter all of these problems. Also, I find that the eve client frequently freezes for 5-10 seconds when using the probing interface, especially when trying to manipulate the locations of probes. |

i get by by setting all probes to 0.5 to move them, then to desired range once in position
i just wish there was a mode that means "until i click that box again, all my clicks are only for moving probes, not for selecting asteroids or changing probe sizes, or anything else" --

Agree 100%
You guys have pretty much nailed down good mechanics for scanning, but the interface needs a LOT of work.
I think the general direction is OK, but management of the 3D space is not working right now. Scanning under 2AU is not fun and deep space is limited.
Easier (and deliberate) selection of a Center To point in badly needed with less of a chance of selecting something else by accident.

I used to love doing exploration, after the system change I wasn't able to do it because I have horrible depth perception, and I didn't give up easy since I really enjoyed doing it. The scan interface suffers from the same fault as a lot of the rest of the graphics. Simply spoken, the EVE graphics designers take every opportunity to display as much brightness as they can.
Bright backgrounds, bright nebulae, bright scanner interface...
Even worse, when two bright things are overlaid, they amplify each other, washing out all details with whiteness.
Gamma controls would be HUGELY appreciated!

nice to know that a few months ago probing worked like a charm. they only had to add some ID's so you know what each result was.
When they did that, they messed up the ENTIRE probing system.

Confirming probing is ****, my maxed cov op's alt has been on a different career path since the "arrows and bubble" fail system... be nice to see it changed back to the simpler times but without having to deal with a hold full of pursuit's, etc.... ferrets and the ship scanning probes were fine for me

the old graphics were 1000x better.
Also, who do I have to blow to get a "disable drag resizing" option? I hate accidentally resizing all my probes when I want to move one.

I find I only get a shadow that makes probe widgets near invisible if the probes are below halfway vertically on the solar system map.

When you get down to scan in 2 AU range and below it is a pain. Selecting and dragging and visibility are all horrid.

Heres a reply from over in this thread:
Originally by: CCP Frellicus Just wanted to confirm that we are indeed listening to what you have to say. We have most of these issues reported already in our defect tracking system and some of them are already fixed due in a later patch. I just want to assure you that we are intent to fix and improve the probe scanning interface so we can make this an enjoyable activity.
Is that patch coming up anytime soon, CCP? Any chance of letting us know if there's been any progress?

Disable all other objects on the map when moving probes around.
When I am scanning I don't care about them. But I forever end up clicking on them anyway when I move or re size a probe. Very frustrating.

I hate seeing this type of reply in these 'pile-on' threads, but I gotta say: I have only two minor issues with probing:
1) sometimes a white nebula in the background is annoying, but camera rotation fixes that. 2) the 'analyze' and 'recall probes' buttons are too small/too close.
Otherwise, I enjoy probing as it is. Seems easy and intuitive. But I'm obviously in the minority. I assume I'm doing something wrong.

you're fine, and it's a pretty good system, specially compared to the horrid mess that it used to be.
it needs gui/interface work, but it's so much better than "hurr, can't drop a probe here, there's already a probe overlapping" crap |

Don't mind the graphics btw.
On lower scales you need to zoom in to force the boxes to rescale correctly to the spheres, then its easy. That's the same as using the arrows, they are fine too.
Some problems may be caused by the user not moving his view or zooming as they should.
There are irritations to scanning as mentioned but otherwise its fine. I can scan anything in a few minutes. Its far from broken.
