CCP Zymurgist -
In reviewing the list of common topics you created in June with the announced features of the Dominion expansion and the COSMOS enhancements - it looks like the devs have addressed quite a few of the commonly suggested ideas!
Way to go!

Needed: Please suggest well written and constructive ideas that have little to no whining. Ninja Salvaging. Anything graphic related.
Please extrapolate as to exactly what you mean with 'Needed: etc' with red text highlighting for Ninja Salvaging and Anything Graphic Related.
I can't decide personally whether to interpret this as being that people should not be creating 50 threads a day about the new cyno effects or jump portal effects as well as not creating 50 threads a day about how 'ninja salvaging is stealing and is a problem that needs to be fixed' or if you are asking that people at least make some kind of effort to have their 50 daily threads seem remotely non-whiney.
In its current form that bit is being quoted in at least one thread as the only thing the thread OP has to justify their thread being read through, as well as being regarded as 'unique', regardless of the fact that one could find within 5 minutes at least 3 other threads that have had exactly the same proposals made. Thread in question.

My thread was deleted, yet none of my ideas are on your compiled list, why?
I understand you moderators have the hard job of baby sitting, but the main purpose of this part of the forum is to compile ideas is it not?

*sigh* It's my fault, I'm sorry everyone. I requested CCP add Ninja Salvaging to their commonly proposed ideas so that we could group the 5 threads a day that appear into one and anyone that created a new one could be petitioned and the topic locked under Rule #5. I guess Zymurgist couldn't find a constructive one with little whining so he requested someone make one. Every mission runner took this as their personal invitation and new goal in life to create as many "stop ninja salvaging" threads as possible.
I'm sorry everyone, I'm to blame :'(

Retraining
At a point some of us end up having trained the "wrong" skills due to not so good decisons or updates of EVE or whatever. It would be great to somehow transform the skill points of the skills you don't want/need anymore (not violating prerequistes of other skills though) into skill points for the ones you do want/need.
The thread mentioned above contains the idea derived from D&D and links to previous ideas to solve this problem. |

Here a thread about changes to faction warfare. Basically faction issued ships (ie ship provided for free by the faction, with strings) and bounties for damage caused to enemy faction and pirates. This could help making more players join the fight when isks is less of an issue.
What could help Faction Warfare (how to make combat pvp less tedious).

Originally by: CCP Zymurgist Ninja Salvaging.
Problem - Ninja Salvaging, while it has its staunch defenders - is a continual issue for Mission Runners who are 'ninja-ed'. It is a particular problem for newer players (less than a couple of years) who don't have the history of EVE in mind and to whom it makes no sense. It creates a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth and, let's be honest, damages people's enjoyment of the game.
Why is this so?
Three main reasons:
1) It is counterintuitive. People are like "You can DO that? But it's my wreck! It's got MY name on it! The stuff inside it is MINE." This is made worse by the reality that the salvage value of the 'junk' wreck is often much greater than the value of the 'protected' stuff inside.
As an example, I helped a fellow in a noobship not long ago complete an L1 World's Collide. I salvaged the mission for him and gave him half the salvage. The total value of the salvage was FOURTEEN TIMES the combined value of all other mission rewards. This is less egregious in higher level missions but it serves to illustrate the example.
2) Players frequently do not encounter 'ninjas' until fairly late in their mission career. Unless they are very active on forums or with other long time EVE players in their corp the first time they see a ninja might well be after quite a few months of play.
3) Mission Runners usually find that, when it comes to salvaging, they are at a huge disadvantage if there are ninjas interested in their mission. They have a big, slow ship (ninjas target L4s almost exclusively) and they need both tank and DPS. They are usually fighting while the ninja is salvaging and frequently use Range Tanking/kiting. Because of the aggro system the ninja is seen as taking little to no risk, in a dirt cheap ship and is reaping unreasonable (to the MR) rewards.
Okay - now how to fix this?
Salvaging is intended to be a viable mini profession - but right now it's pretty much a full profession. It is easier and more profitable than exploration etc. It needs to remain viable as that is clearly intended.
1) Make wrecks scannable - many missioners don't bother with wrecks. There are lots of L4s where the wrecks just get abandoned. Right now wrecks are found by locating the MR's ship! This will allow salvaging to remain valid.
2) Place a 'claim' timer on wrecks. If they are not salvaged by the owner within a reasonable time (1 hour perhaps?) they become 'up for grabs' as they have been abandoned. Before this they are property of the loot owner.
3) Allow tractor beams to tractor anything regardless of ownership. Alternately, allow the unclaimed wrecks to become 'unowned' and thus tractorable.
4) Consider extending the 'life' of wrecks if this will not damage need for speed too much.
This is a compromise that will still allow salvagers to operate and even ninjas to still play, albeit with some increased risk - needed as their risk to reward margin is FAR too low right now. 'Regular' salvagers would still have all those unclaimed wrecks to play with and make money from - keeping the mini-profession profoundly alive.
None of this should impact the market much and those who feel 'griefed' would, at least, have some option to strike back, even if sometimes that would be unwise.
I've been in a LOT of NS debates on these boards and these seem like the fairest compromise which would keep the mini profession viable and still reduce the 'griefer' factor as well as increase immersion in the game and make the way things work more intuitive. Hope it helps some.

[stuff that doesn't belong here]
Why don't you, oh, I don't know, post this in another thread or (as much as I hate to see yet another one) start your own, rather than try to hijack the commonly proposed thread with your options on, and possible fixes for, ninja salvaging?
I mean seriously, I try not to be too much of a **** here, though it comes out when I encounter people who don't even try to follow the rules, but how the hell do you think it's alright to hijack a CCP thread with your arguments about this? Does the topic on this thread say "discuss ninja salvaging here"? I realize there has been some talk about it by me and others but that has been in relation to "CCP, please make this a commonly proposed idea", which is -on topic-, not a complete hijacking with your own views and opionions. This is what the "New Topic" button is for, or find one with similar ideas and contribute to them if you want to follow rule #5 (refer to rules post, try not to hijack that one to).

Edited by: Kiljaedenas on 22/10/2009 22:20:14 Edited by: Kiljaedenas on 22/10/2009 22:19:37 I don't know if this is commonly asked for but I would like to try designing a new ship class. I have posted a thread about it here: http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1201849 (Sorry, I don't know how to make direct links in these forums). Note, this is NOT about creating a new custom skin for a ship as per the existing thread linked in the above lists; my proposal is for a new ship type that has very different capabilities than anything that currently exists ingame.
Please read the thread and provide feedback on it. If this is something common could you please show me where that particular forum thread is?

He asked above and the thread wasn't locked. Starting another interminable thread on the matter isn't going to do much besides create the usual gnashing of teeth. I just boiled down the most useful ideas and thoughts into one post.
If it doesn't belong, I expect someone will move it or delete it. No 'rules breaking' was intended.

Not sure if this is the place but here goes....I have been talking around the Eve community and have wondered why there isnt a T2 version of the Drake? The Drake is a formiable ship but it does have limits in its design. For instance it had 3 rig slots but uses med rigs....medium rigs use 200 calibration per unit for t1 rigs and T2 rigs use 300 so a T1 drake cant be fully fitted in the rig areas under current parameters, Also the T2 version can have the original 8 turrent slots instead of the 7 it currently has, the T2 could have 1 more low and med slot, a bigger CPU and larger Power Grid, and of course it has to be black with the red striping. And of course if this has been placed in the wrong area please feel free to move it.

Edited by: Madmi CEO on 30/10/2009 10:05:09 Addition to the list
An existing idea on the list is named "Skill Buyback". Here are two threads with related suggestions. I'd prefer if it was called "removal" or something clever instead of "buyback". Unless the system involves little or no benefit for the person meddling with his or her skills, it would be a much too powerful tool.
Original "common" idea posted here: http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=691664

This was my solution to revamping the salvage problem. As apposed to trying to just fix it, I feel that the premice behind salvaging needed to be reworked from bottom up. My initial and quickly bumped off posting...
Salvage profession thread
It is a huge issue, and something like this would take a while to impliment, but even some of the framework ideas could possibly solve the issue quicker.

It would be really nice if a dev were to awknowledge each of the threads linked to in this thread. At least show people that someone somewhere is looking into it.
Or that they have looked into it, and these are the reasons why it won't be implimented. . .

hi, i was just wondering if there is anyway possiable you could change the way training goes? most people hate the skill training to death because it takes way too long, that is the only thing holding eve back, i mean come on.. you are just ripping people off with the training times, thats what we are paying our membership to wait 23days just for 1 skill to finish training and get 5% bonus to the damage we do on 1 weapon? what is the point. its useless and annoying,
i think that turning it into how much you do that skill levels you up. not time. it would make eve so much better. please consider this and possiably take action, because this training times are rediculasly high and time consumeing aswell as a rip off to how much we pay a month. thanks. Reyho

I would like to bring on more attention to the following topic: http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1181258
This is an idea/proposal about a shared bookmark system. And since CCP is planning to ban bookmarks out of starbase structures with the release of Dominion, and placing nothing in exchange... :(

I know this is graphic related, but it's something i've seen pop up time and time again. We need Dual monitor support for this game. Basically, Eve like it always is in the main monitor. And the secondary where you can throw all those windows like chat and overview in the second window. As I've gotten better with the game i've noticed that more and more of my monitor has been taken up by various windows and I see less and less of the game. At some points of time it feels more like playing an old style MOO or MUCK. That and the fact that with the abillity to throw eve windows on to the other monitor means I'll have room to keep other windows on the main.
My appollogies for bringing this up even tho you specified earlier not to but I feel very strongly that this is something that needs to be looked at.

Would it be possible to have the armor and structure status or percentage shown while a ship is docked? If it has been a day or two and you come back and forgot to repair before you head out you have to tuen around and get back in range to dock. This can be a pain for slower moving ships and would help newer players at least.
Thanks for the great job. Keep it up!

Yes, there are GOOD suggestions to improve the exploration side of Eve (sadly, threads are closed). C'mon CCP make exploration more FUN to explore ancient ruins, and artifacts (and give more isk value to the exotic items found at these lost sites). Some of us want to do other things than pve/pvp.
