In http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1030198 TransGaming had posted:
Quote: Another issue that some users may experience is a corrupt texture from some other part of the game, or some other application appearing on-screen. Internally, we refer to this as the Avril Lavigne issue (see for why). This is a driver issue which can happen on NVidia 8xxx and 9xxx series cards, which can cause some textures to use other data that is in the VRAM of your graphics card instead of the correct data. A bug has been logged to Apple and NVidia on this for some time, but we do not currently have an ETA on a fix or a workaround. Fortunately, this is a very rare issue.
Has there been a fix yet for this issue? I get it every day. From my experience, its not very rare, but a nuisance that requires reboots to clear.. usually while I'm in a mission with a fleet.
Thanks in advance for any info...

Screenshot, so we can believe that it happens: See? Here's Proof That It Happens.. LOL
A funny one was when I had icons of Cows, Guns, Cigarettes, and Dolls. Um... Very disturbing.
NOTE: This happens in missions where dust appears as well as warped around the warp bubble tunnel while warping.

As fun as some of the side effects of this issue can be, this is actually one of the older issues we hope to have resolved with the release of the latest Cider engine, deployed today along with Apocrypha 1.3.

1.3.1 isn't going to take us back to the old Cider is it? -- --- one day we're all gonna die, and then we'll see who's laughing! |

That'll be great. I still notice blockiness, but so far no Avril. I'll keep you updated.

I still get messed up graphics in clouds at mission sites, even with 1.3.1. |

We worked extensively with NVidia on texture corruption issues over the past several weeks, and they narrowed down at least one case which we believed was responsible for the problem. The driver side fix will be in future OS releases, but they provided us with information on a workaround which has gone into the current Cider build.
Unfortunately, we have still seen some level of corruption even with the workaround in place, though the problem was quite rare in our testing. We don't yet know if this is a different underlying bug, or if the workaround doesn't cover all possible cases.
If people are still experiencing the bug, especially in an easily reproducible way, we'd be interested in hearing more about it. And if you do see a texture corruption bug, please try (1) Switching back and forth between windowed and fullscreen mode by pressing Cmd-Enter, and (2) Changing resolutions from the graphics options screen.

Edited by: Disaronno Amor on 03/07/2009 04:50:41 Edited by: Disaronno Amor on 03/07/2009 04:49:45 I still get the alternate pictures in my warp bubble and in mission sites. In addition, I get some wonderful blocky graphics that totally screw up visibility. They look like this http://i598.photobucket.com/albums/tt61/gimblanni/Picture78.png ...
Switching back and forth between full screen and windowed mode didn't have a reliable result of clearing up the issue. Adjusting graphics setting, applying, looking, and resetting the settings also didn't reliably fix it. Some times it does. Some times it doesn't.
I spoke with one of the Apple geniuses and he said I should ask if CCP had programmed in a VRAM flush (or such) to clear that texture cache out. I could even settle for an optional command line prompt to type in the chat box to reset it and fix things up.

I should be seeing clear images, like this one that I took in a moment when I didn't have the bug:

Sorry for the multiple postings.. I just had this one pop up. We'll just have to call it "Cigs in Space"...
This is typical of the problem we're seeing... http://i598.photobucket.com/albums/tt61/gimblanni/CigsinSpace.png

I actually enjoy the bug quite alot it's kinda funky when things start appearing like a mass of safari compasses.
Heres a few random ones I had the first being the most annoying but after that they were fine.
SS 1 SS 2 SS 3 SS 4 SS 5
Also this weird bug happened the other day I've since not been able to replicate but my model of my Helios stayed when I left the ship leaving my confused until i jumped into another ship.
SS 6 SS 7 SS 8
*Note I did have the graphics on low but I'm on a newer Model MacBook Pro 15" with NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT.

I noticed this issue a few times so far. On worlds collide lv 4 on the initial warp in, the clouds looked like scrolling words and giant crystals |

Pre last Cider update I had seldom trouble with the 'Avril Lavigne issue'. Since then its a regular 'feature' here on my 1st Gen. Mac Pro (10.5.7) with the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT. I'm not completely sure but it occurs more if I fly 2 characters at the same time (I know that is unsupported). Changing from full screen to windowed mode or visa versa doesn't get rid of it.
Since this is mentioned by CCP Whisper as an old issue, I remember another one which is no show stopper but somewhat annoying If you copy an URL from ingame and paste it outside in a browser bar you get an invisible %00 (or something like that) attached to the URL. Any chance you guys are on to that one as well?

@Maria, have the %00 thing too, quite anoying at times.
I don't have the ßvril lavigne' issue alot, and it isn't always as bad. Last weekend I had it during a lvl4 mission, I was salvaging but I couldn't see the wrecks in space because of all the junk that was supposed to be a 'spacecloud'. You would think that this would have been a major issue

Still having the problem. I'm only running one character on this machine, so that rules out a dual client problem - at least for my issue. Pictures posted by other players are the exact thing that I'm experiencing.

I had it too before I ran dual clients, so that's not it. I have it with both the graphic cards in my macbook pro and not all the time (missions yesterday went without this issue)

Any word if Snow Leopard does indeed contain the graphics update to fix this?

The initial Snow Leopard release will not have this fixed, I'm afraid.
