I've updated my list of all IPOs, Bond Offerings and Loan Requests posted in Market Discussion since 2006.
As before, most of the work was automated using scripts, so the list is not guaranteed to be exhaustive and may contain erroneous data, jokes and other junk.
History of EVE Market Discussion (PDF, 110 pages, 2009-07-01)
PDF (1.1 MB)
The list now covers 269 IPOs, 105 bond offerings and 48 loans requests which were discussed in 1,759 threads with almost 52,000 replies.
tl;dr version:
IPOs
Bond offerings
Loan requests

I'm planning to turn this into a website myself for some time now, but haven't managed to actually do it. If I ever should find the time, I'll get back to you
Also, I think the list in its current state is nice but not really useful without further analysis. I really admire what cosmoray is doing here. While it's simple to write scripts that gather structured data like thread titles, reply count, etc, it's really difficult to write a script that analyze what has actually been written, even if it's something simple as dividends payed.
On the other hand, if each MD regular analyzed 10 or so IPOs ...
Idea: What if
- we put together a list of things we'd like to see analyzed (ISK asked, audits performed, dividends payed, ...)
- then everybody picks a few IPOs/bonds/loans from the PDF and posts the facts in this forum
- and I write a script that assembles the data from the posts and generates a report?
No website or coding needed in advance, we could start right away and have immediately results

I've just tried it for one example (Atima Industries). It takes actually more time than I thought to read all the posts and hunt down the facts.
I hope this is accurate:
Originally by: me
ATIMA - Atima Industries
- Launch: Linkage
CEO: Atima ISK asked: 20bn Shares: 2000 * 10m ROI promised: 4% - 10% monthly Secured: 80% Trusted third party: Kazuo Ishiguro
- Audit: Linkage
- Expansion: Linkage
ISK asked: 40bn Shares: 4000 * 10m Involved party: Kazuo Ishiguro Involved party: Xabier ROI promised: 4% - 10% monthly Secured: 80%
- Report: Linkage
- Dividend paid: Linkage
Sum: 2bn
- Report: Linkage
Dividend paid: 400m
- Report: Linkage
- Audit: Linkage
- Handover: Linkage
New CEO (Interim): Kazuo Ishiguro
- Handover: Linkage
New CEO: Sugar Jugs
- Dividend paid: Linkage
Sum: 2.4bn Confirmed: Linkage
- Dividend paid: Linkage
Sum: 2.4bn Confirmed: Linkage
On the technical side, this is how an analysis should roughly look like. A simple list like this should be easy to parse with a script.
It's not really important how the facts are formatted, as long as everybody approximately uses the same format (e.g., one fact per line, same keywords, no ambiguities)
I think the interesting facts are:
- CEO character(s)
- ISK asked, ROI promised
- Shares sold/ISK actually raised
- Dividends paid
- Audits
- Expansions
- Result (Scam/Closed)
What do you think?

In the list above I'd also add a "business type" (bond / IPO...) and a simple
TOperationOutcome = [Success | Failed but liquidated | Default | Running | Scam | Frozen | Delayed (ie the investee disappeared and skipped 1+ payments but is known to get back and pay the missed rates)] - Auditing and consulting

Slight correction to the ATIMA summary - Xabier was planning to take part, but he deferred this and stole from DBANK shortly afterwards. He has never actually had anything to do with the IPO. --- 20:1 mineral compression ISRC Racing, Season 7 - schedule |

Business type is already included in the PDF, but any corrections are welcome.
Originally by: Vaerah Vahrokha and a simple TOperationOutcome = [Success | Failed but liquidated | Default | Running | Scam | Frozen | Delayed (ie the investee disappeared and skipped 1+ payments but is known to get back and pay the missed rates)]
I think it's best to keep the analysis as objective as possible. I will release the assembled data to the public, so everyone can create their own subjective version if desired.
Also, I think the outcome is sometimes very hard to decide, for example what's TOperationOutcome for Atima Industries?
It's also a lot more work to keep the info current. I think it's better to only report the facts that do not change very often...
But I'd love to see this info, too, so I added it

Fixed.

Originally by: Marcus Baltar
Company/IPO/Bond name
Confirmation of payment (dividend) received;
Eve Date and time (ISO 8601) Total of xxx, xxx.xx ISK received in wallet, made by "character" using xxx in-game dividend payments totalling xxx, xxx.xx ISK. Using "share name" (ticker: ticker) shares in my wallet confirms a xxx, xxx.xx ISK (xx.xx%) dividend per share. This dividend means xxx,xxx shares are in existence.
Total received since share purchase date (link) (xxx, xxx.xx ISK per share value at share purchase date):
( xxx, xxx.xx ISK per share : xx.xx% return ). (This was the number (cardinal) payment since share purchase date)
Thanks.
Yellow italics indicate where values appropriate to the dividend would be entered, in standard text and colour.
I would like to keep in the bit about the number of shares as this enables a quick check to see if the number stated is true, or any share creations have been missed.
A direct paid/no share present report is like this;
Originally by: Marcus Baltar
Company/IPO/Bond name
Confirmation of payment (dividend) received;
Eve Date and time (ISO 8601) Total of xxx, xxx.xx ISK received in wallet, made by "character" using a direct cash transfer "[r]=xxxxx". Total received since share purchase date (link) (xxx, xxx.xx ISK per share value at share purchase date):
( xxx, xxx.xx ISK per share : xx.xx% return ). (This was the number (cardinal) payment since share purchase date)
Thanks.

Cool project!
If the Dynasty Foundation was still running, I'd encourage others to nominate you, and might even have nomiated you myself. Sadly it isn't, so there's currently no organized way to reward those who contribute to the community.

Really nice work.
The problem with doing the analysis is it takes time. When I did my list for 2008, I had to look at every page of MD in 2008, then cross link the launches to the dividend statements.
I think that project took me 40 hours.
My current one is not so hard, but it is still a lot of work. I have a go at updating it every so often.

<snip>
Looks good to me. If you put the values always in the same place, this should be easy to parse, being a bit verbose is ok
Note that, unlike Eve Search, monitoring every reply in every thread is not feasible for me, so we'd have to post all information in a single thread. My script can follow links though.

I hope that my list will speed this up a bit, as it already groups all relevant threads by IPO/bond. Adding the threads of the last five months only took a few hours.
My fear is, that once all the work is done and we have a shiny report in our hands, it will be outdated already...
On the other hand, this project is about collecting old and dusty "History of MD", not providing the latest and hottest overview, so I'm actually quite positive this could work. |
