ok... now i do inventions and would like to see what others think of this.
I have run 35 invention jobs (ships of different types) and been successful 7 times. My skill are max'd at lev 5 for the invention type (inventors know what i mean by this), i am using the second best decrpytor (1.2 probability for faction) everytime and i also tend to invent items that have a limited market (as this increases your chance apparently). The cost of running the 35 inventions far out way the success i barely have covered the investment i.e. datacores, encryptors once i have built the ships and sold them.
So can someone honestly tell me, whether as put kindly by a GM is ... 'bad luck' ... or does this indicate that invention is not working as intended ?
be glad to hear what the experience is with other inventors out there .... the role itself is become one that make very little return for the investment involved. Happy to hear your thoughts

I wanted to be the first to create a "Patch nerfed invention" thread
If it makes you feel any better I'm doing modules and I've had 42 successes out of 75 tries today, which is about 7 more than it should be.
It's working as intended. Wait until you have a sample of about 1000 attempts then figure out your success rate.

Personally I am liquidating all my assets and selling my characters. I cannot continue playing this game if I keep getting these failures. ------

well, i have attempted also to do some inventing on some shisp, as i was getting massive failures, so i gave up for awhile. thought id have a pop at it again, & yet again, ive had massive failiures. so much so, ive not had 1 success yet.
My skills are there, my decryptors i havem as well as my datacores. im now quitting invention, & selling the cores & decryptors i get on the market. im here to make profit, not bankrupt myself.
only thing i still dont understand, is, if ive already invented a ship ( so to speak ) i should not need to invent it once again. i succeeded, therefore, the same principles on the success should be taken to succeed again. but i guess that just wouldnt make sense, as every man & jack would do it, & prices would fall.
but ona lighter note, least the T2 Ship insurance would now be inline

As anyone who has done a large amount of invention will tell you -- invention is "freaky streaky." I was keeping tabs of all my module invention results for a week (~80 jobs a day, batches of 10 at a time) and by far the most common outcome was 8/10 successes or failures -- I got this result roughly 45% of the time. 5/10 was the least common, just barely edging out 9/10. The rest of the results were evenly split between 6 and 7/10 at about 25% frequency each.
Now, over the massive amount of invention jobs the end results averaged out to roughly expected -- 49% success rate.
So when inventing you must think "law of large numbers." The luck garbage simply means you can't plan on inventing and building 10 modules. You must shoot for at least 1,000 (200 jobs) of whatever module you plan to build. With ships you're almost always better off selling your datacores and finding prints invented by freetards. And if not plan on bankrolling least a few hundred invention runs.
And in summary, bigger blobs are the answer. Now what was the question? |

i think most ppl including the OP are mostly refferring to Ship invention, rather than Module invention, as its much more of a loss when it fails.

That doesn't invalidate my point. Streaks happen. With the -5ME decryptor (which the OP used) odds are highly comparable to module invention with a meta2 base item -- a very common scenario. 7/35 results are well within the realm of expected "streakdom" for such a small sample size.
"Much more of a loss" is completely irrelevant. If you aren't willing to dedicate tens of billion to t2 hull invention then you really shouldn't be trying to invent ships. There's a lot to be said for jumping in with both feet, but the t2 hull invention pool is quite deep and full of experienced carvivores. Definitely not a good place to go immediately after strapping on your water wings.
And in summary, bigger blobs are the answer. Now what was the question? |

Invention/Manufacturing is so boring and painful, these threads after patches are the only good part of it.

Like some said, success isn't really measured over some 50-100 jobs, you'd need to get into the 1000's before being able to see a trend of some sort (btw the API works wonders when it comes to getting that statistics).
Never heard that the invention chances improves if you invent a more limited market item though.
