I have a game mechanics question.
Capital ship construction is a two step process. Step 1 is build the appropriate number of capital ship sub components required for ship "X" Step 2 is assemble the above sub components into a finished ship "X" I know I can do Step 1 in a NPC station. (In my case I am in empire in a .5 system)
Here is the question. Can I do step 2 in the same station as step 1 or is a POS "REQUIRED" for step 2?
I have assembled a capital ship at a pos in lo sec in a large ship assembly array, but I am trying to avoid the necessity of setting one of these up if I can.

Step 2 requires a manufacturing facility in LOWSEC/NULLSEC. Any one you have access to will do, but it has to be low or null.
So, most lowsec capital producers haul compressed minerals (or raw ones) to a lowsec mfring station and then build the components and ships right there. The reason to build the components in lowsec too is that each component is more m3 than the minerals required, so less hauling for you and less risk. |

Ok new question. I know the Rorqual can compress raw ore. but your comment intrigues me

How do you compress refined minerals?

Supercaps (moms & titans) can only be done at a POS (with sov), all other caps can be done at NPC. High sec NPC fine for freighters/jump freighters, low/null NPC fine for dreads/carriers. |

Manufacture mods which are smaller by volume than the sum of their constituent minerals, haul those mods out to the arse end of wherever, reprocess those mods. 425mm railguns are a good starting point but you'll need to work out exact specifics - there are mineral compression services which'll do this for you, eg. Hammer. |

Citadel missiles and XL ammo are commonly used for this.
Figure out the ratio of minerals you need, then find a module / ammo with a similar ratio. |

This assumes you have, or know someone who has a perfect refine for modules at your destination station. Refining V, Refinery Efficiency V + a refining boosting implant (or the scrapmetal skill) plus a 6.67+ rep with the station you intend to refine in...and this is assuming the station has a base 50% efficiency refinery, which not all of them do out in low/null. I don't make minerals. I just make ore 20% cooler. |
