Is it worth flying for any reason other then the fact that it looks awesome?

Not really.
It is indeed the most awesome looking ship around, but sadly it's stats don't do it justice. If any faction ship is getting a boost, the Ashimmu should be first in line. ------------------------ Low-sec is like sailing along the coast of Somalia...

I haven't decided if you have destroyed my interest in this ship or given me an idea for a name to stick on it. especially since the box of tampons on the back of my GFs toilet is what inspired my toons name.

Edited by: Rajere on 08/07/2009 23:30:16 It's in dire need of an update, it doesn't have the grid/cpu to function as a real ship. (before you even consider the need to improve it's bonuses and slot layout, especially its laughable 3 mids with the changes to webs).
It has less CPU than most T1 Cruisers, to even attempt to fit the ship as is requires at the very least faction in every slot if not better, which results in a lackluster ship costing exponentially more than what you get from it.
It has way too many high slots (7) for the amount of PG it receives, so unless you fit some combo including small Neut/nos or Small Guns it cannot fill it's highslots, and thats before even considering fitting a single low slot with a plate or a repper in one of it's 6 lows. Basically it ends up requiring multiple reactor controls/ACR rigs to fit even a comedy setup, grid wise.

It looks awsome.
Slots(3 meds for web bonus lol) and powergrid is just pointless(for fitting guns + tank).
So preaty mutch yes, it is pointless outside the look(and yes I beat one in my Omen since it could not get in range ) ---- Nerf Tank - Boost Gank!

I've EFT'd the crap out of this since I picked a BP out of a wreck last week. I haven't tried playing around with faction mods because I'm not throwing down that ISK for this. The best you can hope to get is a mostly T1-fit that can deal and receive about 100DPS and drain around 60 cap per second. You can keep that up for about 2 minutes with good skills (or longer since the neuts are mainly going to be for either killing frigate tackler cap, MWD cap, or active tanks, and thus won't be going at all times.)
But against anything that operates outside of about 20km you are so screwed. No drones, minimal weaponry, and no neutralizer range bonus.

With my first character, back in 06 I flew one of these for quite awhile. It was difficult to fit but back then (before the NOS nerf) but it was a ton of fun. Popped several HACs and BC's with it. Nowadays I just don't see it working though. A shame really because it should be an awesome ship.

The other thing that bothers me about this ship is that it's based on the technology of the two most maneuverable races, but aligns slower than almost any other cruiser. The Moa has a faster align time and it's a Caldari line combat vessel, which is just appalling.
What I bet happened is that the Ashimmu never got an agility boost back when all the other ships did, but still got the cruiser agility nerf they recently added. It'd only make sense considering the amount of oversight on faction ship stats

I just can't figure on a decent solo fit whatsoever, unless you're hunting stuff that can be killed by a Rifter. But for gangs you might consider trying something like this. With maxed fitting skills you get a whole 3 spare CPU. This lasts for over three minutes if you don't activate the MWD, and tbh as soon as you catch your target you can shut it off because they won't be running theirs anymore. You alpha just over 1000 cap with Amarr Cruiser 5 every 12 seconds and have three medium NOSs to help delay your own cap-out. You have a neutralizer range of 12.6 km so you're outside of the optimal of autocannons. 20k EHP but enough resists to absorb damage while someone remote reps you.
HIGH 3x Medium Diminishing Power Drain System 4x Medium Unstable Power Fluctuator
MID YT-8 Overcharge MWD 2x Webber II's or one webber II and one Epsilon Scram or Faint Disruptor
LOW 2x Reactor Control II 2x EANM II DCU II Capacitor Power Relay II
Remember, up to 200 seconds or so of constant neutralizing without cap-out if you can hit the target without using too many MWD cycles. So that's 90 cap per second and a bit more once your NOSs kick in, but it's obviously all about that initial subtraction of a 1000 cap power. That should knock most cruisers down to zero cap right off the bat IIRC, and who uses cap boosters on those plated undersized gun setups nowadays? We know the Amarr recons are better, but come on you don't fly faction stuff smaller than the battleships to outclass T2 (usually.)

A couple of months before Nanophoons received their first nerf the Ashimmu's mass was adjusted. Up until that point it had had the potential to be one of the best counters to nano (be it phoons, vagas...etc). With a moderate nano fit, with armour resists to give it longevity, Nos in the highs and a 90% web it could race down my 7km/s Crusader easily enough, and because its Nos would keep it running despite Nos on Nanophoons it could stay with a battleship while it slowed down giving other - less valuable tacklers a chance to warp in.
Unfortunately, the first ship to be hit be any kind of nano-nerf was the poor Ashimmu, turning it into the relative brick it is today. --

Currently fitting my ashimmu with DB mods. It still could do with about 100 PG to make it viable. The CPU is ok. A drone bay enough for 2 medium drones would be great. The bonus' on this ship rock. The final range on the webs and the boost to the nos/neuts is great. ---------------

best i can come up with:
[Ashimmu, wat? why] 1600mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I Damage Control II Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II Gyrostabilizer II Gyrostabilizer II
Y-T8 Overcharged Hydrocarbon I Microwarpdrive Faint Epsilon Warp Scrambler I Dread Guristas Stasis Webifier
220mm Vulcan AutoCannon II, Barrage M 220mm Vulcan AutoCannon II, Barrage M 220mm Vulcan AutoCannon II, Barrage M Dual 180mm AutoCannon II, Barrage M Small Unstable Power Fluctuator I Small Unstable Power Fluctuator I Small Unstable Power Fluctuator I
Trimark Armor Pump I Trimark Armor Pump I Trimark Armor Pump I
can fit 2x webs for gangs, and you might be able to fit named/t2 web if you use 180mm autocannons. nukes 50cap/sec when in range. might as well use a rupture, but the pimp factor is undeniable. cruor setup roughly like this works ok too, great for frig plex piracy.
with a bit more powergrid, and the useless laser bonus changed to something like projectile ROF bonus, it could be pretty awesome. all the blood raiders ships need to be switched to projectile bonuses anyway. |

That's sure to **** off both the people who own Bhaalgorns
But yeah the only solo setup I could really figure might work with some decency on an Ashimmu is an autocannon-based thing. And the CPU on this ship is not okay. CPU limitations are what stop you from being able to use T2 neuts and lasers on this. As you may know I'm not an advocate of the "every ship should be able to have a complete T2 fitting" philosophy, but the faction ships should be at least able to use T2 mods for the slots they get bonuses in without having to use multiple fitting mods in the lows.

Blood raider ships (the NPCs) use lasers so no a projectile bonus doesnt really make sense. Get your projectile crap out of here and leave my sexy lasers alone. On that note, more grid please. Slot layout of a prophecy with the grid of a cruiser isn't a good thing.

i dont think the bhaalgorn owners would mind very much if the price went up a bit =P and yeah it's pretty tight on cpu also, especially for a laser ship.

hey i like lasers as much as the next guy! but on a ship with a nos/neut bonus, it's a little unhandy to have your guns depend on your capacitor if you also want to fit neuts (which are awesome, hence why you want to fit them.) you can hardly think of fitting a med cap booster on the ashimmu given the current slot layout/pg issue. hence the projectile idea! they dont take capacitor and use less powergrid.
mind you, a sansha/marauder-like bonus (half the slots, 100% damage, plus another damige bonus on top!!! pew pew) would also work fine and would get my vote. maybe they can find a way to have 0-cap usage lasers? throw some post-blood-harvest-bodies into the furnaces to get power maybe? i have dim memories of something about consuming slaves as ammo. I THINK WE'RE ON TO SOMETHING HERE.
btw buying cheap blood raider ships. |

If you fit a couple of small pulses with Scorch you actually put out a fair bit of DPS against people lacking EM resists. You also have an optimal considerably greater than you'd get with ACs, and with a combination of the Controlled Bursts skill and the Ashimmu's laser cap bonus your cap expenditure should be pretty minimal with the pulses. You could also try using beams since you get that web bonus, but your DPS will probably drop.
Now that I've acquired one of these it's inspired me to actually spend some loleffort in EFT to figure out what fits. It looks like it can field a pretty strong purpose-built fitting (see a couple of my posts above with the all-neut/nos setup) but lacks the versatility or stats needed to survive effectively in a solo or very small gang configuration.

About 2 years ago I was tootling around low sec down in The Bleaklands when I noticed an Ashimmu on scan. Thinking a faction cruiser would be a tasty catch I scanned it down and warped to the planet it was at.
Exit warp, lock, web/point and FI...WTF?!? Something didn't feel right, either this guy was afk or was bait. Rescan provided no clues but when I went to show info on the pilot I couldn't believe my eyes.....there was NO PILOT!!
I remember thinking "What the hell kinda trap is this? Ok... I'll bite". Ejected from my Merlin, boarded the Ashimmu and I was even more surprised than ever...it was fitted AND rigged!!!.....rather poorly but, hey, I don't knock freebies lol
To this day I still have it with the same fit and rigs, here it is:
[Ashimmu, Lost and Found] Medium 'Accommodation' Vestment Reconstructer I Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II Damage Control II Sigma-Nought Tracking Mode I
10MN Afterburner II Stasis Webifier II Stasis Webifier II
Focused Modulated Medium Energy Beam I, Amarr Navy Multifrequency M Focused Modulated Medium Energy Beam I, Amarr Navy Multifrequency M Focused Modulated Medium Energy Beam I, Amarr Navy Multifrequency M Focused Modulated Medium Energy Beam I, Amarr Navy Multifrequency M Medium Diminishing Power System Drain I Medium Diminishing Power System Drain I [empty high slot]
Ancillary Current Router I Energy Collision Accelerator I [empty rig slot]
I am just waiting for the day when the Ashimmu gets some love so I can fit her as she so rightly deserves....CCP, I'm on hands and knees here. Pleeeeeeaaase!!!

Muahahahaha, this is what I used in 1v1s on SiSi after the faction extravaganza, speed mod would be nice, but I just told them Bf1 and warped in at 10km and webbed them down
[Ashimmu, New Setup 1] Armor Explosive Hardener II Armor Thermic Hardener II True Sansha Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane Dark Blood Adaptive Nano Plating Damage Control II Medium Armor Repairer II
True Sansha Medium Capacitor Booster, Cap Booster 200 Domination Warp Disruptor True Sansha Stasis Webifier
Medium Pulse Laser II, Scorch S Medium Pulse Laser II, Scorch S Medium Pulse Laser II, Scorch S Medium Pulse Laser II, Scorch S Medium Unstable Power Fluctuator I Medium Unstable Power Fluctuator I Medium Unstable Power Fluctuator I
Auxiliary Nano Pump I Egress Port Maximizer I Egress Port Maximizer I
Running booster it's got 6 minutes with the repper, or is cap stable running 2 neuts and no repper.
Of course, on SiSi I had 2x Tairei's hardeners in the lows, but that's not very achievable

Confirming that it looks awesome.
Also confirming that there are so many things wrong with the ship that in order to fix it you would have to go back to the drawing board entirely.

The Ship is not finished, You will notice when flying it You lack sufficient Pg to fit anything decent In addition to that due to the lack od drone bay the ship fields no Dps, I would like to see a Drone bay added but then it would be to much like a pilgrim, instead i would like to see a Decent bonus, or increase in Power grid that allows for neuts and turrets perhaps some more Highs.
I also find the 50% Capacitor Bonus to be useless as even the Bigger brother Bs doesn't get any dps increase and the drone bay is half the size of the Armageddon, So it should at least have the Rof bonus.
Currently its awesome to look at past that, Nothing. - Emperor
