From what I've seen in my experience most of the time in FW, when one side gets pounded like that in FW it's typically due to FW lag. Both sides don't always get it and it's truly "F'ed" up.

I wasn't there but Minmatar militia chat kept on for hours about the lag they had in Auga.

Edited by: Veebora on 10/07/2009 04:09:14 I am having a hard time to understand the glory of killing an afk/lagged fleet.
Killing a lagged fleet is the same as killing an afk fleet.
The only glory on it lays on CCP still holding customers that are receiving a terrible service.

This is true.. I wasn't there, but heard it was bad lag. Hence the reason I skip the big fights these days.
One can look at all the pod kills just to see that it was lag related. You just do not get that many pod kills in low sec unless the grid is lagged out. Otherwise pods are very hard to catch, especially that many of them, when so many ships are on the field.

Good thing you guys brought in a carrier too, otherwise the AFK / Lagged fleet might have won !

Could have been an awesome fleet as both were prepared to dish it out.
I think our logistics got desynced right at warpin, which is ... welll bad. The "proposed" fix from CCP with the additional line was applied by several ppl but didnt do a thing though ... ----- Garr Anders

Protip: have everyone in your fleet apply the lag fix, not just "several" ppl.

Confirmed, my two bs pilots who were present reported heavy lag to begin with, then no control after the first few targets had been called.
Your fleet won against a side who were not firing back.
The lag won, not you.
Oh and fyi, both were running the 'fix' from ccp.

Yeah, I guess that might have been one issue with lag on our side ... . Let's just hope that CCP fixes this in general very soon-with less TM-ish. At least they seem to finally have clue what to look at. ----- Garr Anders

CCP doesn't care about low sec. That should be blatantly obvious by now. =================== Go Bucks! |

Amarr suffer the exact same thing when warping onto an occupied gate. Treat the large gang/fleet engagements like you a would a POS operation. Get to a gridload before engaging.
The gridload warp is the only way to influence the coin-toss performed by the server to determine who has the advantage.

When you say that are you meaning wait for the entire grid to load before anyone engages?
I've seen the lag from both sides where it's the stationary side whom was already on grid gets lagged out. Then also the side that warps in as this case would appear.
I personally haven't seen any rhyme or reason behind the lag, and I've warped in after the fights started, meaning the grid was totally loaded and still lagged out.
I made the mistake of joining that fight in Kamala the other night and lost my ship and pod to it. I jumped in system and lagged out and couldn't do anything but watch the eve mail flash. (before my ship exploded too)
I've lost 3 pods on this toon and if you look at the KM's all 3 where in these damn lag battles. Hence the reason I'm done with them until there is a fix.
It's useless to petition the crap, because CCP isn't going to do anything other than say it looks good on the logs..

No, it doesn't act like "normal" grids as seen in 0.0, but getting the initial loading done helps a lot. It is not the grid itself that has to be loaded, but rather your clients 'copy of it.
Almost all the really bad fights I have had, with overview duplication, infinite module lag etc. the lag became trivial after a warp-out/in even with all people still there. Don't know why it works it just does (at least for me), some recommend relogging but that is a bit extreme for me.

Its nothing like 0.0 lag, therefore making the use of a grid loader nil. The issue is due to a bug in the code relating to the amount of writing the client does when specifically dealing with FW pilots and the standings relating to them.
It is almost always not present at the start of an engagement. It appears 'during' and seems to be random as to who gets it and who does not.
Sometimes you get lucky and approx equal numbers of each side get the ****ty end of the stick... Sometimes you dont.
