Was hoping to get a quick clarification on how local works in unknown space. I was under the impression that, like 0.0, you only show up if you talk, period. Is this correct? Or is there a timer that once a certain amount of time passes you show up regardless?
Thank you very much in advance.

Only Wormhole space has no local - unless someone decides to announce they are there - null sec has local just like anywhere else.

When you speak in w-space, your name becomes visible to all those who were in the wormhole when you spoke, and it does not go away when you leave. However, you are mistaken about normal 0.0. In traditional 0.0, there is a constant list of all players in local, regardless of whether they have spoken - in w-space, the only way to get onto this list of players is by speaking. -CEO of AC-AF- |

And it would be cool if local in normal 0.0 would be same as in w-space... So awesome... Pretty please CCP!

one important thing to note for newbies to 0.0 and wormhole space which is particularly important when in a wormhole is to rename your ship.
it's no use not speaking in local, thinking you're safe when everyone within 14au of you can plainly see "Azitek's rifter" on their directional scanners.

How on earth does that help when they can see your ship type right next to it's name? |

Ah but they then can use the buddy list to look up your name and get your history. A 3 year old rifter pilot is considerably different target than a 1 month old newbie in a rifter.
pro tip - use this as a deception maneuver find a newbie with a short name and rename your Rifter <newbie>'s Rifter.
