Edited by: MidasMulligan on 10/07/2009 02:55:06 The Miner's Manifesto Or, Following the Path of Production
Eve is a universe. It has good people, it has bad people. It has scouts and spies, dealers and liars, barons and serfs, hunters and the hunted. It also has spaceships.
Spaceships must be built out of parts. Parts must be built out of minerals. Minerals must be refined from ores. Ores must be mined from rocks. Rocks are self-creating and eternal. The well of their bounty never runs dry. It is so written.
Thus we see, that at the beginning, there were rocks, and the rocks saw that they served no purpose, so they created the miners to serve them, and to whom to serve. The miners were born.
In the beginning, the miners were small, fearful, and pitiful. The Navitas and the Burst and the Bantam and the Tormentor (though not the Tormentor so much as the other kinds of ships) flew furtively throughout the vast and empty universe, with only the frigates with signatures of red to keep them company and to make them explode. The rocks were mined, and the ore was delivered. To stations. And the miners asked of the rocks, "what now should we do with the veldspar and megacyte and pyerite and zydrine and isogen and mexallon and noxcium and morphite?" And the rocks answered, not in words, but in the gift of blueprints. And it was good. The miners took the blueprints, yea, and used them to create all kinds of ships. Not just the Navitas and the Burst and the Bantam and the Tormentor, but also the Covetor and the Retriever, the Skiff and the Hulk. Thus more ore was mined, and more blueprints were delivered, and it was good.
Blueprints for mining drones revealed the truth of the mining drone, and they were used to drone mine. Then other kinds of drones, to defend against the red menace. Then other kinds of drones, to warp scramble and target paint. The will of the rocks was not clear on this matter, but they had not yet led the miners astray, and so the target painter drones and the ECM drones and the Ogres were constructed and deployed, and it was good.
The ore continued to fill the cargo holds of the miners, and they continued to refine their ore and produce the progeny of the blueprints, following faithfully the scripture of their blue print. More blue prints were sent down from the rocks to the miners, this time for ships and modules which could shoot and kill and scramble and web and sensor dampen and torpedo and bomb and doomsday and cloak and cap recharge and shield transfer. The miners were confused, and they scratched their heads with their calloused fingers and looked at each other with the looks of confused miners on their confused miner faces. But lo, said one, the rocks work in mysterious ways. For they created us and the blueprints and themselves and the universe and all that is good and voluminous and their plan for us is not for us to question for for us to follow and use production slots to fulfill.
And so they did. And the Ares and the Harbinger and the Raven and the Dominix and the Eos and the Archon and the Helios and the Hurricaine did blot out the sky with the darkness of their numbers, in so following with the commandments of the rocks.
And the miners saw dark days. Cans became flipped, and ships became wrecks. The faith of the miners were shaken, but not stirred. Then came the Leviathan and the Erebus, the Ragnarok and the Avatar, (though not the Avatar so much as the other kinds of ships) and the miners exploded and died and awoke in strange stations, and it was not good.
"Lo, what has become of us?" Cried the miners. And there was no reply. The voices of the rocks had grown silent. The missiles were fired and the hyrbids were fired and the projectiles were fired and also the lasers were fired, though not so much as the other kinds of weapons. And isk was lost and skill points were lost and rage quits were rage quitted and forum posts were forum posted and it was not good. (continued in the next post)

The miners realized one day that their god had died. Perhaps that god had never lived at all. For who remembered the origin of the first blueprint? So many copies had been copied again and researched for material efficiency and time efficiency and copied again that no one would anymore recall the first blueprint and its rockly origin.
A miner spoke: "Let us cast aside the foul demons of explosion and pod killing and warp scrambling and pod killing! It is the very rocks from whence we are supposed to have came that our trials and tribulations originate! Let us then mine them until they are depleted, so that they vanish and do not return to torment us." And they did. And they do. So the miners continue onward, mining and depleting and refining and competing. Working towards the one day when they will be freed by their own laser beam. Or perhaps enslaved by it.
The End...Or Is it?

Bloody Good show sir.
Unfortunately some miners that listened to the Original Voice of The Rock, have now been turned against the original God and now pray at the idol of the Mission running loot/salvage god. Those that are really too far gone partake in what is euphamistically known as 'Ninja' Mining (for there are no ninjas in New Eden).
It's sad now that items are created, without rhyme or reason they just turn up even in the most unpopulated stations and outposts out of thin air, like the rocks the Original Miners used to pray to.

I liked it, appealed to my rhyming side. I give you an A, only because you said the same thing twice a few times otherwise it would have been an A+.

I always thought it was the other way round, really. For does not the Veldspar, mighty as it may be, ever yield to vast and powerful hum of Chribba's tools?
Crap, now I'm doing it.

Very nice!
As far as miners being dorks, everyone playing internet spaceships is pretty much a dork/geek/nerd at heart.
