CCP has said they will 'adjust' salvage drop rates in the next patch as some drop to frequently others too infrequently.
If this is the case, is it time to cash in on high-end salvage items?
I see speculators buying up quantities of items that are at their highest price in the past year, but it sounds like CCP could be increasing the supply of high-end salvage which would drive the price down. Will demand for frig, cruiser & T2 rigs outstrip supply (after CCP adjusts drop rates) and drive prices up? Or are the speculators about to get burned?
What are your thoughts?

BUY! BUY! BUY!
Speculators by definition are always about to get burned. They are the witches of the economic world.

I'm gonna spend maybe ten to twenty million tops buying up some common salvage, and hopefully sell it for at least some profit if they go through with this. It's all I dare to spend as a non-trader with a crappy wallet. I salvage all my wrecks anyway so I'll still be on the collecting side, and if they even up the ratio of drop rates between the "common" and "uncommon" salvage then it might not affect the profitability of collection overall.

Hopefully prices for Gurista salvage will improve.

Amen to that. I'll be holding onto my salvage through the patch transition and see what happens - although I'm probably going to lose money here. Seems to me like salvage drops would be increased in order to fill an increased demand for rigs (since there's now demand for small and medium sized rigs), thus driving the prices down - high sec missioning needed some kind of a nerf anyways.

well i think all Salavge prices will go up: they also said that they will be making small and med rigs. as everybody is gonna start rigging frigs and crusers and BCs the demand is gonna sky rocket. this meens that you gonna need allot more rigs and allot more salvage so this will rais it's prices.

There's also some Devblog that indicates you will be able to make T2 salvage parts from "wrecked salvage". Maybe a process to turn T1 salvage to T2 Salvage.
Soooooo.......S,M,L size rigs, plus T2 salvage increasing significantly, thus T2 rigs becoming a lot less expensive to mfr?
As I'm sitting on a mountain of T1 salvage, I'm verrrry interested in Apoc 1.5.

Never expect such announcements to result into a feature being included in a patch, or it even coming soon after .. this is EVE.
Besides, taking into account how they "solved" things with the introduction of alchemy, you can probably expect the process to turn T1 salvage into T2 salvage to require a few dozen towers, silo's, a new reaction or processing array and 50 odd manual steps in between per item. Oh, maybe you'll have to buy a new set of blueprints as well

The gist I get from CCP is they want to make rigs cheaper & more accessible overall.
If this includes an increase in drop rates for certain items that are currently in high demand we could see an drop in their prices. The question is whether demand for frig/cruiser/T2 rigs will off-set this increased drop-rate and if so to what extent.
Currently some salvage material sells for 280k per unit while other material sells for 100 isk per unit. My guess is CCP may want to see more balance in these prices, so
High-end salvage supply increases & price drops Low-end salvage supply decreases & value increases
...and Amarr mission runners salvage value drops while Caldari mission runners get a nice salvage boost
Of course it's just a guess.

Oh please don't cheapen T2 salvage. It's my only financial windfall as an alt-less pirate.

This, it's one of the few gleeful times I get for keeping wallet balanced.

Prices are skyrocketing on the salvage that was already the most expensive. People are going to get burned.

The thing to remember is, CCP has mentioned the rule of five, So a medium rig will use 5*less materials (and thus cost 5* less), and a small rig obeys the same (5* less than med, so 25 times less than large) so small rigs won't make as huge an impact as people think.
Its impossible to correctly speculate as t1 salvage will be able to be converted to T2, and drop rates are being adjusted. anyone speculating is gambling, and anyone who thinks differently is either ignorant, or/and an idiot. could go either way.

Just remember that there are more factors in the cost of rigs than the materials themselves. If the production time of the smaller rigs is scaled down as well, then yes we could see rigs at 5x cheaper. If the production time stays the same however, then prices will be slightly higher than 5x.
We shall see on Sisi Soon(tm) hopefully.

Edited by: MightyRhinox on 11/07/2009 02:52:51 Chances are the prices won't move much either way. There is going to be an increase in demand so supply most follow to prevent a shortage.

I don't know about the market in your region, because the region I'm in actually has a pretty bad market for being a place with so many high sec systems... but there isn't any type of T1 salvage that will sell for more than about 200k each. That same type (melted capacitor console) was selling for up to 600k in early 2009. Maybe I've just been living in outlier regions for this market trend but salvage prices seem to have plummeted from my perspective.
I'm not a trader though, just a casual collector and seller. Could be wrong.
