Edited by: Mazzarins Demise on 11/07/2009 16:43:27 Hey guys, just ran across this piece of news while surfing the web. Apparently, Darkfall is opening up in NA this coming Monday, and they just implemented a new expansion/patch with a whole host of changes. Here's the link.
I've been interested in the game for some time, but the limited copies and some of the complaints I've been hearing since its release have swayed my opinion. With these coming changes, the now re-surging positive opinion of the game, and of the newest patch, I'm thinking about picking up a copy of the game.
Anyone else have a change of heart with the recent changes?

My advice would be to wait until the mortal online beta goes live in slightly over a week. The dev's said they're probably going to lift the NDA so I'd wait until info. about that game is out before investing in darkfall.

If they continue working on DF like they are doing it'll change from vapourware, to shortlived failure, to sleeper. And in a year or two it'll be a fantastic, different, MMO attracting the non-mainstream players.

Thoroughly enjoying DF. The grind is harsh, yes - but it's an MMO you are playing not a singleplayer game. With the US launch you get 3 months of PVP without those players on EU-1 who spent hours exploiting and it's an open playing field.
I'll be transferring to US-1 when the transfers open (if I'm still playing), but will be rolling a farming alt when the US Sales open.
I recommend the game, if you aren't the faint at heart. The new Patch brought back World-PVP and there's lots of action happening right now.

Wasn't excited when it opened on one continent, not sure why I would be with it starting on another. From those patch notes, it looks as though they're simply making the game playable and fixing problems, rather than adding a bunch of new features. When you have enough bug fixes and tweaks that you go so far as to call it an 'expansion' it makes you wonder just how wrong they got it in the first place. Regardless, even if the game played well and didn't suffer as it clearly does to warrant an expansion's worth of fixes, full world PvP and being able to have everything you carry looted from you is an immediate game-breaker for me. Means you're always playing by other player's rules and never your own. -------------

It depends on the definition of grinding, but when the game is all about getting items, it becomes a long, long grind...
But if you dont care about the items and just think its enjoyable to kill mobs with your friends, then I guess its not a grind.

Kayo played Lineage 2, which was probably the very worst grind in any mmo ever. Compared to that everything seems easy :P
About time an MMO is released that doesn't try to keep people around with grinds. I wonder when it's going to happen.

There's so much hype surrounding Mortal Online, it's tough to cut through the BS.

Cancelled my two EU accounts a day or so after making my original post in this thread.
Picked up two NA accounts this evening, so I can play alongside the guild/friends I've made in SB Alliance on EU1. Lots of us re-rolling (no more furry character \o/), and the next few weeks is going to be a blast.
See you there, if you decide to pick it up. :)

Ding ding we have a winner.
The corporate world needs to realize that young people are really starting to not care so much about nationality. (at least not the ones I deal with daily) and are likely going to want to play nice with other countries on big servers. |
