Edited by: sleepingeagle422 on 13/07/2009 14:57:27 I was thinking about all the ship classes and how they all have a covert ops version. The frigates, the cruisers, and the battleship, but the Battlecruiser class does not. Since the BC class has the role usually of support, being the command ship, giving the bonus' or supporting an entire fleet, wing, or squad.
To fill that role of support I was thinking that a Covert Ops BC that can fit a module, in the high slots preferably, that projects a bubble (much like a HIC bubble) that will cloak anyone inside its radius.
It could be used in many situations, such as organizing a fleet to go on an attack. Its a pain trying to group up and move a non-cloaky fleet with spies watching you. Or setup a gate camp that is undetected until the last moment, a scout jumps in see's its safe, the hauler or fleet jumps in and then you gank them. Also it could be used to make a safe escape or regroup. The Cov BC warps off to a Safe Spot and the rest of the fleet warps to him and they hide in his bubble.
Possibly it could get other bonus', to cyno's, warping cloaked, or EWAR bonus' to be more like the other Cov Ops Ships.
Just some food for thought to make the BC class more useful.

no there is already too many modules to make gate camps too easy
gate camps work fine as they are --- u already got hics, dictors, and mobile bubbles and warp disruption/scramming modules.

OR you could have the cloaking module cloak EVERYONE in it's radius, enemy and ally alike, but have scripts that allow "Focused Cloaking" so you could cloak specific ships, or "Ally Cloak" where it cloaks all in your fleet/corp/alliance that is within the radius.

i like this idea, but i suggest 0.0/wh only (like hic/dic bubbles) when cloack bubble is active the ship that has the mod, doesn't cloack, it doesn't get cloacked by other ships of the same type either

i agree that there does need to be a BC class ship that can cloak or other things as for the cloaking bubble i would say no for 2 reasons 1 i dont want to train cloaking V and 2 it would be way to over powered if you take 5 or 6 of those and put them in 1 system in 1 belt u could cloak hundreds of people which would make holding low sec/0.0 a very hard tast when your enemy can kill you and then hide every one in the fleet for hours
as for the BC class a cloaking covert death thing is a good idea or a big form of hic is also a good idea i think the ccp should make a new BC class too

Edited by: Rick Matar on 13/07/2009 15:33:55 Since it could reach an overpower point. There could be penalties that limit the number of ships in it, or make the bubble smaller and have an unlimited amount of people (if they can fit), the speed that your ship moves, etc. Or make it where if your in the bubble and your none covert you cant see ships that are outside it, only structures. If your in the bubble you should be able to see the others that are inside it.

I see...
A CovOps Drake...
It's got its own Cloak, and it can extend a separate Cloak over everyone else.
It can either play Hide and Gank, or it can play decoy for a massive fleet gank.
I wantz one. |

i cant really see how this would add to anything, especially with blackops and t3, too be honest im not sure what role a tier 2 t2 bc could fill, although ill admit field commands are horribly underpowerd Signature graphics that may only contain your character name, corporation logo, corporation or personal slogan or other text that is directly related to your in-game persona, or content directly related to Eve Online. All content must be in good taste.Applebabe |

EVE doesn't need more cloaking ships. Cloaking is already very prevalent. And it is a major obstacle that interferes with successful implementation of local nerf. Since local nerf will inevitably come for the good of the game, we shouldn't move in opposite direction now with cloaking. If anything, we need start thinking how we can make balanced cloaked operation once the local chat is gone.

I've been thinking of a way to help prevent the CLoak Bubble from being over powered would be to make the module have penalties or setbacks, and here's what I came up with.
Increasing the cap usage of the module would make if harder to perma-run or run for a long time, making people eihter use it as a quick hiding spot or sacrifice alot of slots to fit Cap Recharge mods to perma run it.
Making the Module have a specific duration and then a cool down timer before reactivating, much like a DDD. That would purely make it module only used in tough situation where your fleet needs to escape and hide for a quick moment.
Or making the module only able to be activated if the pilot is in the Squad Commander position, such as the leadership bonus'. This would curb the amount fleets have if they are going into all out battle, since they will be sacrificing leadership bonus' for this more logistical support. On top of this since it could last longer make it more of a logistical area where people can retreat to make repairs or get in a better postion.
Other setbacks to the bubble, could be visibility. If you are inside the bubble you shoudl only be able to see others that are in the Cloak Bubbles radius, but not be able to see and ships outside it and only see structures (such as gates, stations, etc). The only person in the bubble that should have visibility is the Cov Ops BC pilot. Even though ships within the bubble can see each other no one outside can see in. The bubbles visibility, is similar to the visibility from the A.M.S. in the MMO PlanetSide.

Sort of, Black Ops. Not full covert, but under the category.

Eve has to much cloaking ships as it is. I'd rather have them remove all covert ops cloaks possible to fit to all ships apart from the cov-ops frig and possibly transport and that only if you when you have a cloak fitted have no offensive or tackling ability. Make it a pure scouting tool nothing more nothing less.
As for ship classes that lack cov-ops cloaking, there are lots so not really a reason to add more.

That was my 2 cents about a cov ops BC hull.
Insert clever remark where? |
