I know some T2 ammo is pretty good like Barrage and Scorch but why is the majority of T2 ammunition generally considered worthless and should CCP do something to make them a little bit better?

Edited by: Balardo on 13/07/2009 22:25:55 Half of the T2 ammo is used alot:
- Tremor - Barrage - Spike - Null - Aurora - Scorch
Its just the high damage types thats not worth it compared to faction in most cases.

tech 2 long range ammo is pretty much what gets used.
fury/rage heavies/hams get used as well.
close range t2 ammo is usually not used due to tracking penalties, especially since faction does a little less dps but without the tracking hit, so better overall dps.

Like many of Eve's features, they came out pre-nerfed so they wouldn't be overpowered. Unfortunately, the devs have done anything to un-nerf them after they were found to be useless.
So even though it's been years now, and no one uses them, CCP hasn't done anything to address this problem (OK there was 1 patch a few years ago, but that still didn't do much to help).

The long-range ammos are pretty good. The short range ammos are horrible, mostly because faction ammo does almost as much damage with none of the ridiculous drawbacks.

Apparently Hail works well if the target isn't moving too much and neither are you and if the target is bigger. (BC v BS) However Void in my experience is pretty shocking although I guess it could work in certain situations it is how ever to situational for me to want to use it.

All T2 ammo has its use so I cannot agree.

Edited by: achoura on 14/07/2009 09:18:22 Tii ammo used to be good, as in it was drastically better than ti. Sadly ccp didn't like our megas tracking and instapopping destroyers so they nerfed it into the ground with tracking and cap penalties, then subsequently released fiction ammo which had better tracking, better range, better cap use and had what, 0.5% less damage? Can't understand why anyone wouldn't want that...
The only close range tii ammo that actually gets used is hail/missiles but other than that is faction close range, tii long range (because it has no equivalent). ***The EVE servers and their patches*** |

All the range bonus ammo still sees heavy use, the problem is that the damage bonus ammo is useless compared to the freely available faction ammo.
They really should redesign the close range variants to do something else. I am partial to the reduced damage for huge tracking increase.

More like trolling people in stating it would be not useless so many times that it isnŠt worth using.

I still wish they'd bin faction ammo and remove/reduce the awkward penalties of the high-damage ammo.

T2 is ment to be an advantage, but when theres penelties involved they have to be way smaller than the advantage you get for using it in the first place.
generally people use mid/close range faction or long range t2. and its all about dmg, and being able to land sed dmg effectivly.

i agree, it's not a good sign that player craftable T2 anno is less favorable than faction ammo

Actually, my understanding was that when the T2 high-damage ammos came out, they were pretty decent. 16.7% more damage than T1 high-damage ammo was not too bad, with the disadvantages meaning it didn't completely obsolete the T1 version yet was useful against larger ships.
The problem was when the LP store was introduced, meaning empire faction ammo became ubiquitous. At that point, given the choice of a 15% damage increase with no penalties whatsoever, or a 16.7% damage increase with tracking/range/cap/misc. penalties, there's almost no reason to take the T2 high-damage ammo, ever.

I was just about to edit my post in light of that, I guess I don't have to now.
Yes, the T2 high-damage missile ammo is pretty good - CCP did a good job with the balancing to the point where it's worthwhile using it on tackled ships a (half-)class larger than your launchers' intended target, but it'll do less damage than faction ammo on ships the same signature as your launchers.
It'd be good to see something similar happen with turret ammo, but since the only variable you have to play with there is tracking it would be less clear-cut to specifically define the cutoff point.
