How should I fit my thorax for PvE/getting along in low-sec? I've heard that I should use blasters, but why not railguns, what's wrong with 'em? I'm not so experienced about combat or gunnery, so please help me guys.

If you could be more specific it would help people give you a better response.
Does "PvE" mean missioning? Ratting? Hauling?
Does "Getting along in low-sec" mean low-sec PvP? Pirating? Traveling in low-sec? Missioning in low-sec?
Generally the Thorax is fit with blasters and for high DPS in PvP and with rails for longer range in missions. Once you specify what you're using the ship for we can provide you with some suggestions as to how you can fit your ship to be effective at its goals. ----- The Python Cartel - My Pirate Blog |

If by "PvE/getting along in low-sec" you mean doing pve in lowsec, just don't. It's not worth it. Blasters are better for soloing because with rails anyone can get under your guns and you'll be helpless.

PvE means missioning and "getting along in low-sec" is traveling through low-sec. sorry for being not precise this is my first forum thread at EVE forums.

and "PvE/Getting along in low-sec" means PvE (missioning) OR not getting killed every time when traveling through low-sec.

Generally the Thorax is fit with railguns for missioning as it allows you to reach your targets at considerable range without having to chase them around trying to apply very close range blaster DPS. It is worth noting as well that the Vexor is considered a more effective missioning ship as drones are much easier to use and much more flexible than railguns. If I was going to recommend to you a Gallente cruiser to do level 2 missions with, it would look something like this:
Quote: [Vexor, Missions] Damage Control II Medium Armor Repairer II Armor Thermic Hardener II Armor Kinetic Hardener II
10MN Afterburner II Cap Recharger II Cap Recharger II
Dual 150mm Railgun II, Antimatter Charge M Dual 150mm Railgun II, Antimatter Charge M Dual 150mm Railgun II, Antimatter Charge M Dual 150mm Railgun II, Antimatter Charge M Drone Link Augmentor I
Hammerhead II x5 Hobgoblin II x5
Obviously you can substitute lower level modules if you cannot use the T2 yet. Also, the armor hardeners should be swapped out to be the right resists for the type of rats you are fighting. If you're too lazy to do that you might get away fine with just using Energized Adaptive Nano Membranes instead and omni-tanking.
As far as "surviving in low-sec", you simply should not mission there. The slight boost in reward is not worth the large increase in risk. Mission in highsec and you will never have to worry about your safety. As far as traveling through lowsec goes, just fit items to your lows that will allow your ship to align and warp very quickly such as Nanofibers and Intertial Stabilizers and you should be able to make it through most lowsec regions without incident. ----- The Python Cartel - My Pirate Blog |
