Linkified Amusing Ourselves to Death
Both fascinating & fiercely intelligent men. Although I'm more familiar with Huxley from his work The Doors of Perception in which he writes about his LSD experiences.
Thanks for the link -I'd like to jump down that rabbit hole when I get the chance.

How right those men are. The scary thing is that even though many may see the "truth", we are all still slaves to it in one form or another.

Problem with consumerism is that folk get programmed into beleiving they are better and more capable than they really are. 'Your so uber and cool - Now buy this'.

These two gentlemen both had legitimate concerns regarding human nature. While some have the nature of greed, materialism, and being power hungry, others are interested in achievement, advancing technology, or pursuits of science. Unfortunately the first is linked with a lack of intelligence (not that you are ******ed, but your IQ isn't likely to be very high) whereas the second is linked with higher intelligence. When you possess greater intelligence (140 IQ plus) and have a long term view it becomes easy to stop focusing on all the useless garbage most of mankind focuses on, like biased news, or the latest fads in the market, or doctored business reports and inflation numbers...
You see what really matters. The advancement of technology. The advancement of mankind. Stopping climate change. Stopping reckless consumption. Stopping greed. Stopping anyone who casts aside the laws of science, or nature, claiming their beliefs are superior. Stopping violence.
But alas at the end of the day, We are too few. Mankind as a whole drowns out our unified voice in a sea of stupidity. As time goes on there are less of us left. Mankind grows more ignorant. Easier to control. And before you know it you've started to hate your own kind. You wish to make them suffer. So you yourself get into a position of power. And you begin to adopt some of the very qualities you hate simply because you despise those who are inferior to you.
This world is a terrible place, and it will only become better by eliminating the waste of our society. Those who do not work, Those who care only about greed, materialism, those who disobey the moral code, those who are uneducated, those who are lazy, those who make no effort to better themselves or better their fellow man, those who behave irresponsibly, need to be purged.
Purged not through death... death would be a waste. Purged through re-education. To be re-educated to be a worthwhile individual.
Will it ever happen?
Highly unlikely. There are billions of you. Dirty, unclean masses, ignorant, disease carrying, apes. There are but a few thousand of us. Intelligence, knowledge, wisdom, they all fall deaf on the ears of an ignorant man who is committed to his rage. Rage against those who seek to deprive him of freedoms he wants. Freedoms he wants not for any good reason, but simply because he wants them, and damn you if you're gonna take them away. Garbage.
TL;DR
Abandon all hope, or continue to pretend everything's ok. It's your call.

Oh yes, I'm SURE you're one of the absolute elite of the thinking world and are perfect in every way, a person who has never done anything wrong in his entire life and who's very existence advances humanity as a whole. Or maybe you're just a pompous fool? Hmm.. I wonder which is more likely...

nice moves. i like it.
2 of my favorite classic lit authors. I love the cautionary stories of dystopia more than anything.
Unfortunately, despite the popularity and exposure both of these author's works have experienced i would consider them the two most ignored and/or misunderstood authors out there . We would be WAY ahead of the game instead of behind if we could take a few of their lessons to heart. ---------- Hey, sewer rat may taste like pumpkin pie, but I'd never know 'cause I wouldn't eat the filthy mother*****r |

One doesn't seem to exclude the other in practice. I'd say both are occurring. Point in case: The Canadian Human Rights commissions have shown a strong propensity to stifle legitimate debate and news sources (the case against MacLeans, the case against The Western Standard, etc.) . No one cares because they are watching America's next top model or some such. In other words they seem to go hand in hand.

Edited by: LUH 3472 on 16/07/2009 12:54:15 yes several extremes are occuring. the pain resulting from that lets us learn about the two opposites that are in life. it is quite simple really. very simple and mind-boggling. intelligence is of the heart not the mind. and so more and more poeple just relax from this nonsense because they see it is jsut a big pile of nonsense.

Meh, if you were really clever you'd make it conditionally replace "you" with "them" based on the IQ of the reader.
(And before you try the obvious rejoinder, I checked and it turns out you're not really clever.)
