Edited by: Chinny Rekkon on 15/07/2009 13:53:49 i saw a thread about this a while back but when I run multiple instances I seem to have a performance hit - this would make sense to me but so many others seem to be doing it that I wondered if this is normal (and if so, why do others do it?) and if not, what's wrong with my machine?
thanks!

Main Issue is usually CPU, get a dual core and that should fix it.

You dont state whether you get a perfoamnce hit when running 2 clients from 1 install compared to 2 clinets from 2 seperate installs or compared to just running a single client?
I would expect running 2 clients to perform very similar no matter which way you run them, while depending on yor computer spec, you might get 50% framerates compared to running a single client.

I have one PC running a older single core CPU. Video card supports 2 monitors. I have 2 accounts which I run under two separate installs of EvE (C:\program files\eve and C:\program files\eve2) at the same time.
I find it too laggy to run both accounts when I'm doing missions (and I really don't need the second account for missions since I can only do level 2's atm). I use my second account for hauling when mining which is really what I spend most of my time doing (yeah I know, but it allows me to get some other work done at the same time like laundry and dishes and still make decent ISK). Works ok for this, especially after I upgraded to 4 gig of RAM.
But yeah, expect a decent performance hit when running on older PC's with single core CPU's. Hopefully in the next couple of months or so I'll be able to upgrade to at least a dual core.

I have run up to three instances with a triple core computer and never had a slowdown. All where running from a single install.

i can and do run 4 clients at once, with grafix on full, no real issues for me, however, i do expereice lag, but only in WH plexies. i have no idea why this happen, but thats the only place i do.
and while testing, i've noticed, i seem to get major lag when running just 1 client in a WH plexy with all grafix on low, so no idea why it happens, it just does... :(
i use a quad 6800, 4gb ddr 800, 8800gtx video (756mb) with a 24" lcd...

I just looked at dxdiag and with this setup, i should be able to run two instances pretty well, right?
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz (2 CPUs) Memory: 2046MB RAM (not sure how to tell what type of RAM this is, I'm not great with PC's) Chip type: GeForce 8800 GTS (640MB)
currently when running two instances I never seem to get above about 30fps on either. I have both clients set to performance, and I'm running dual displays and in the Display adapter options I can set it to GTS 1 and 2 for each display. I have the Interval set to default on both.
any suggestions as to how i can get better performance?
thanks! The Disbeliever.

Inverval one seems to be the consencus I have seen. Also I copy my EVE install to a seperate hard drive and run two clients that way and experiences very little slow down. But I only mission with one, mine with the other.
ETA: My setup is similar to yours, except I have 1gb video and only 2.08GHz processor (AMD single core). --- Usagi Tsukino // Miyazaki Zaibatsu
