i'm not a mission runner but I like the idea though :) I think CCP should implement that, if they intend to boost PvE at all.

pretty good idea im linking it in the sticky thread so they could add a permanent link to it in the commonly proposed ideas thread.
But to enhance the idea even further: Make it so that the distress calls could only be received when you warp to planets, and not by just jumping through solar systems.
this is because
a) i dont want to get spammed everytime i cross a solar system
b) give planets some gameplay elements. itd be fun to warp to planets to look for distress calls

I'd like to add my weight to this idea, it's simple, well-considered and should be relatively straightforward to implement.
there's not an icon for the doffing of a cap, but consider mine doffed in your direction. Can't think of anything witty? No, neither could I. |

Awesome Idea M8, not sure if I'm necroing this thread, as I somehow came across it by just skimming over the stickies in Features and Ideas.
Awesome though Please re-size your signature to a maximum of 400 x 120 with the file size not exceeding 24000 bytes.Applebabe

Hmm... it does kinda connect to the butterfly effect.. and in a way, is a great way of introducing midlength storylines. The distress call could lead to some random path, imagine getting involved with and working with a group for specific story mishes, with some reward for a per person whom follows along to complete. Trick would be moderation to make sure it promotes the teamwork and not rushed so others cannot complete, say a certain few get clue or items so they gotta stick together to complete. A scaling system could also work as well, so that more people means more enemies, but an exponential growth in rewards promoting more people coming along.
Imagine 10 people respond to distress, and get the clue, they call a few buddies, fleet grows to say 20, by the end, say 150 people gathered to complete it, and is scales to such. Rare, but valuable rewarded, would be awesome!!!!

excellent idea, you could send a distress signal in Elite II, nobody ever came though.
This brings a whole new dimension to the game. It would spice up missions and would get loads of new players in.
/make it so

I suppose after watching the butterfly effect, you might feel somewhat short changed when you receive your first extremely scripted linear mission.

I like this Idea. As for assigning the mission. You could give the player an option to receive or ignore distress calls. Then when the server decides it's time for a distress call mission he simply rolls among all the players who have to option enabled. If the player declines it jumps to the next and so on.
This would avoid the distress spam in local, remove the posibility that multiple players accept the mission and then fight over it (you could still bring your gang to the mission) and would only give the missions to those who want them.
As for the scientists stuck in a nebula: You could still bump them out... Or lead them ---------------------------------------------- The glass is neither half full nor half empty. It's just twice as big as it need to be... |

Maybe players themselves could send distress calls as well? It would be nice for PvP (think traps) and helping people out in missions as well... -- Read the captain's log at eve.aeonoftime.com The solo player's corporation - Syrkos Technologies |

Or what about a simple function that allows you to call for help by hitting the S.O.S. button that allows anyone in the system that you are in to warp to you via a warpable link that pops up in the local chat window. It would be blue in color and would be higlighted just like an item, system name, or pilot name is linked to in the local chat window. Any pilot wanting to respond could then warp to the pilot in distress. There would be a failsafe however that each use would cost the person five million isk to use and could only be used ever four hours.

I think this should be added to w-space.
It reminds me of the Independence War 2: Edge of Chaos. You're flying around, a distress comes up, you warp to it and can kill off the rats and then pop the freighters for all their juicy loot. ♥

This is a very good one, a beacon that can be sent out to your distress. Now, some places it could be spammed, imagine a major centre spammed with distress beacons. It could have a timer on it, or be a deployable object. Just need something to keep it from being a spam nightmare. Course I could be overthinking.
In another way in relation to the butterfly effect there. Timed ajoined missions. Say different events happen in different systems. If you are in a fleet, or solo and warp to it, you clear it your way. It gives you a starting location and a time to meet. There you meet other peeps. Now, being the one to get original flag, it sets you in a syncroed fleet where you can join up with others who got the same meeting point. The fleet gets grown, and your reward is given at the end to how many flags you got. So the people who are in from start to finish get more than people who hop in for end. It would all lead to an epic mission matched to the fleet.
There is one big consequence to this style of missioning, imagine the fighting over looting or who gets to be in charge of fleet, etc. Well, guess that is all part of eve ^.^

Edited by: Trig Onami on 04/08/2009 07:15:57 Other way of recieving Missions would be while you are sitting inside a station viewing the market or counting how many bolts are used to keep the armor plates affixed to your ship, where the Agent tab is, would be a new tab called Instances[Blink On] (5 of each Size and Difficulty broadcasted throughout the System's Stations)
Blink on would allow a player to join a randomly formed fleet of 5 or 10 players currently stationed somwhere in the system.
Accepting this Fleet Size 5 Distress Call would send you and these 4 random people to the site, where you kill NPC based on fleet collaborated decision to help the Good or Bad guys. Color Coded NPCs tailored for each player appear in droves. Loot and Salvage separate, fair. You may again share through fleet menu only. Epic lag fest doubtful. But it opens up a new way to look at space other than being alone or fighting the same targets together. In the Overview Pane the color coding would apply also with wrecks. One of you leaves early, their branch of the mission dissapears. No reward for that person only. Mission continues for remaining players.
Fighter ships allowed. Industrials, not so much.
They could also invent "specific" missions that require say.. 2 Frigate sized ships of any race, 3 Cruisers, 1 Destroyer, and 1 Battleship, to fight off a killable Sleeper Ship with a load of decent loot on it that breached a "instanced" wormhole somewhere in deadspace. Possibilities are endless as to what size and level of difficulty these Distress Calls could be. EVE. The most ambitious project on earth. |

Originally by: Imiarr Timshae Where is the option to join the pirates and kill the stupid traders?
Yup, that was a big thing suggested. Along with the possibility of leading to pvp style missions. Kinda a concorde safe bubble. Specially if the mission set up a sort of mission special wormhole or jumpgate that allowed say a pirate to sneak into the highsec for the mission. They already have missions that have stuff like hidden pirate jumpgate, so would be cool to encorporate.
As for the set missions, with ship bonuses, that would be blah. Better would just be 100% randomizer. The less somebody can use something like eve survival, the more fun it is, alot more fun ^.^ Just something coming over your local npc like a mission, hunt it, save the day, blow it up, whatever. I am sure the devs could figure out some clever way of putting flagging into the mix as well. Also, I like the idea of defence missions, if they are well thought out.

This idea wins the Epic Award.
CCP asks what we need to help newbie players after the tutorial. Give us all this, including them, and you will find yourself with a very very happy newbie playerbase.
They watched the Butterfly Effect video.. And it's possible to do the help the miner mission..
Now to add NPC vs. NPC fleet battle you join in on
