This is really simple. Maybe putting a pull down menu option in the character box or anywhere for that matter showing that the person is afk. Maybe the box indicating that the person is (Green) online can change to the color orange when the person is afk or static for a long period of time.
It's frustrating trying to get ahold of someone over and over again when there status shows them being online when really noone is home, especially when you have a huge corporation.

I agree, it has agitated me a few times to try to talk to someone and they be in the shower or something. An AFK indicator would be nice.

An indication for when people are idle? No, thanks. It is unnecessary. People already use the on-line indicator against one another and this will add to it.
Learn to have patience and if the little light is green, but you do not get a response then imagine the person has more pressing matters to pursue than to answer to your call.

It could be restricted to corp members only.

I wouldn't mind if such status indicator was available or corp/alliance chat. But it should definitely NOT be available in local chat. We need to nerf local, not boost it.

This. As long as this tool was for corp/alliance use only (and even then had an opt-out feature). ~ Santiago Fahahrri Galactic Geographic |

Maybe they don't want to talk to you...
I wouldn't want my status broadcasted all the time. There are some people I'd rather ignore.

^^^This. In fact, I wish being added to the buddy list required permission of the person you're trying to add.

Edited by: jagoff on 21/07/2009 00:39:25 i support this only if it has to be manually set by the user. (sometimes you want your friends to know that you have stepped away for a minute)
i would not want the client to automatically set me to AFK after a certain amount of time.

If you feel the need to ignore corp mates then perhaps you shouldn't belong in that corp to start with or perhaps informing the person they annoy you then blocking them. Most corp mates I've seen are obliged to talk to other corp mates be it that you **** them off as an exception.
AFK indicator in the corp/alliance chat window by your character is a great idea to inform them you aren't available atm and to prevent you looking like an idiot trying to talk to an empty seat. Local would be a bad mistake and even in the buddy list it should be restricted from.

This. I would want it fully configurable: Manual or Automatic with settable timer, viewable to any or none of the following as I choose: alliance, corp, buddies, everyone.
Ultimately it's not a big deal, but it's not a terrible idea. I give it a 6/10. ---- Suddenly Ninjas Blog: My Loot, Your Tears

Maybe if it only showed the afk status to people whom you have in your address book who also have you in theirs?

Their answer to your question should be all that is needed to confirm to you if they are active or not.
No one can control if you are to look like an idiot or not, except yourself. If you are looking like an idiot, them maybe "you" are doing something wrong.

Supported - I'm quite a fan of Eve but you have to admit that the tools we have to interact with each other and our corp mates need a overhaul, badly. 10,000,000 windows sucks :(
